Found a good deal on an AR in 6.8 spc.Know nothing about the caliber. What is it good for and what is it lacking?Don't "need" another caliber in AR form but if it is "cool" lol I don't mind buying it and some ammo.
It is an Olympic Arms rifle with what appears to be their SS barrel.Great choice in a SBR, a 12.5" is my ideal setup for deer. Any specifics on the one you are looking at, mainly the barrel?

6.8’s are real good to rebarrel and use as a 6.5 grendel
I hear ya. I love the G. I want to try a 6.8 sometime thoAs a shooter of both, sold off the grendel once I started on the Creedmoor. If you want to throw a 6.5 bullet with authority, the g isn't it.
Not to say the g isn't a good round, it was as accurate as my 6.8 but stayed in the safe more.
http://bisonarmory.com/After reading this thread it has got me thinking about building a 12.5” rifle as a hunting platform for my oldest. I checked my normal places for parts but it seems 6.8 is pretty rare for them. Where do I need to be looking?
This. I have the same barrel and it consitentally makes me look like a better shot than I am. Really shines with the SSTs.I can vouch for Bison Armory's quality. I have their 18" SPR profile & it is a tack driver.

I will have to give them a try. The SST has been so accurate I haven't tried many other loads. It seems to like the 110gr Sierra Hunters. Sadly it has never shot the 90gr Fed Gold Dot that well.Mine likes 110gr Accubonds & 90gr HPs a bunch as well.
I've not shot any of the GDs yet, but SSA loaded Speer TNTs shoot under 3" @ 300 yds.
ETA- mine also shoots the SSTs really well. I went with the 110gr AB because I'd read a few things about the SSTs tearing up more meat & I got a pretty good deal on a bunch of the SSA loaded 11ogr ABs. I've got a few hundred of the SSA loaded 95gr TTSX, but haven't tried any yet.
