Sometimes on here we are kind of rough on the police when one screws up, so I decided that the next time I had a good cop story I'd try to give it equal time. So here goes.
Yesterday I drove from Greenville NC to Bellhaven, 51 miles, to do some kayak fishing. Had a nice time but caught nothing. Back in Greenville with the wife eating dinner, and realized that my tackle box wasn't in the truck. I figured out I had probably left it on the river's edge. I was able to reach a police sergeant in Bellhaven, who told me he'd go out there and search for it. About 20 minutes later, he called back to say he had it. I drove the 51 miles again, and he was waiting for me at the PD. I tried to give him a gift certificate to Parker's BBQ, and he said he couldn't take it. I asked him if he knew of any families in town that could use it. He agreed to take it as a donation for the needy in town.
This is a well furnished tackle box, and it was worth the 100 mile round trip in the fog, but I don't know if I would have driven it without knowing it had been recovered. He didn't have to go out there in the dark and mud with a flashlight, I wasn't even a resident, he would never see me again, but he did it anyway. So thank you, sir!
