Anybody planning on getting one of these

PCCs are as popular as ever, but the market is crowded. This appears to be a solid carbine and I love the fact that they are using the old colt pattern mags -proven design. I don’t see anything wrong with this , but people love to hate anything Springfield does, regardless of how it functions and holds up

Most of the anti Springfield stuff is related to politics. God only knows what they must do and say behind closed doors to operate in a state like Illinois. Like any mid priced high volume manufacturer, they have had some other issues, but always seem to address any issues with good customer service.

For a mid priced gun manufacturer they have a good product offering based on what I have owned.
A lot people that own 1911s , XDs , XDS, M1As , and ARs are happy with them - but somewhere along the way it became cool to make fun of this company and hate everything they do - I do not understand it

SA is an interesting company to be sure. The business model has always been unique. Started off building M1A/M14‘s from surplus USGI parts on new receivers then started branding imported 1911’s from Brazil. I guess it is a good business model as they are still doing it today with the Hellcat and Hellion amongst other things.
Not sure where these AR’s are sourced or where their 1911/2011’s come from these days.
But yeah I kinda love hating them….

For a blowback 9mm PCC the CZ evo is my preference. The AR style PCC doesn’t do anything all that well and can be difficult to troubleshoot if issues arise. I think most of these sales are to folks who want an AR but shoot on an indoor range that don’t allow rifle chamberings.

In terms of reliability the choice for colt mags was a smart one. They feed from each side of the stack similar to an MPX or CZ scorpion mag. With respect to a carbine is Much better than a Glock style single feed mag.

how popular is the colt mag and what is the cost?

I had the same thought. You used to see those at gunshows all the time, but not as much anymore. Somebody makes them new now but i can't remember who or for how much.
Quite a few companies make them - in the $20-30 range , most are steel. More importantly they are one of the mags that work well in a AR style PCC

I really like the xd line of pistols, would like to get a Saint, just not a 9mm fan.

No. I have a PCC, and don’t need another unless it has a lever.

For us we often use 9mm carbines at matches instead of a “full” size rifle. Once you learn your holds, it’s easy and fast to make hits out to 100 yards and beyond. 9mm is much cheaper to buy and much easier to reload in bulk than rifle rounds.
It wouldn’t be my first choice in a self defense scenario, but I would not want to be on the receiving end catching fire from someone with a PCC. Inside a home you wouldn’t have the deafening blast of an AR pistol in 5.56. With the right load you can push a 124 gr HP 1200-1300 fps

Lots of people make them. Metalform is probably the top of the heap. PSA used to sell some MF made but with a PSA baseplate. Brownell’s also sold some of their own. ASC also makes good ones. Quite a few other options I’ve never tried.

The ASC 32rd mags can be found for under $20.
Metalform 32rd are usually in the $25-$30 range.

You can also buy 10rd and 20rd versions.

I think the actual Colt mags run $75+.

I like the choice of using colt mags. Double-feed, unlike glock mags that everything else seems to be trying to use these days. Having your rifle use the same mags as your pistol is overrated.

What it the string wrapped around the handguard for. Grip or heat displacement?
Heat. I’d imagine because the van is tucked under that rail and will eventually heat up.

It was an attempt to keep it from being too hot to shoot. There’s a small(ish) volume can tucked in there. Only 1.25” OD…so it heats up pretty quick even with 9mm. 4” barrel with 6.5” can.

that would be a no. even if I had the money to throw away.

MP5's, and if AR based would be built on a Colt mag lower (80%), Toolcraft Carrier,
Macon Armory Barrel, etc. Or just a plain Colt be done with it.
The MP5's are my go to .. parts kits were cheap and plentiful.

there's only so many things you can do to a pinto or vega

Seeing as how turk MP5's are coming in at just over 1k, and an MP5 is better than a blowback AR in every conceivable way....no. I'm not buying one nor do I think it'll be a popular product. It's about 2 years too late to market I think.

Nope, not a fan of AR type PCCs. Other than possibly inexpensive training for the AR platform I see no reason to have a separate magwell that unnecessarily extends the weapon's length another 2-3", especially since most people are putting cans on them these days.

Do MP5's outperform blowback AR's in competition?

Apparently PCC is huge among competition circles.
