Anybody planning on getting one of these

I'm not sure if I'd buy an AR in 9mm over other types, like an MP5 copy, but if you already have PCC's....sure, why not? Most people use ("run", lol) 5.56mm AR's these days, stands to reason if you like it and want to use a pistol caliber, you'd use the same platform/manual of arms. I have an old, pre-ban Colt 9mm, never use it but for me it's cool to have in the collection.

You sure they are lighter? I think they are pretty close if you compare similar length barrels.

An 8" barreled MP5 weighs 5.6lbs and an 8" barreled Wilson combat AR-9 weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces. The MP5 is nearly a pound lighter.

The MP5's bolt using rollers instead of mass to delay the opening is what makes them lighter and makes them better suppressor hosts too since they're far quieter than anything that's straight blowback.

The JP-5 probably the perfect PCC.

AR ergos and roller delayed. Just have to sell a child to get one.

Weighed my 16” ar9:

6lb 13oz. That includes:
C-More metal railway optic
Big compensator
Magwell, etc.

Likely around 6lbs stripped of the accessories. If it were 8” about 5lbs most likely.

Stripped mp5k is 4.4 pounds. Add a lightweight stock and red dot and you could still be under 5lbs and have a stocked weapon with an optic or just iron sights if you wanted to be as light as possible.

I understand the weight thing if you're carrying it 20 clicks with an 80 LB pack, but what's an extra pound for a range toy? Would a little extra weight be a positive thing as far as mitigating recoil?
And which would have a greater effect on recoil, the roller-delay or the extra pound? And who would notice?

Having shot both AR-9's and MP5's both suppressed and unsuppressed I'd say that an MP5 is far more enjoyable to shoot. The roller delay is just smoother, less abrupt and more pleasant to shoot.
I get the AR-9's can be had for cheap and probably take a mag that alot of guys already have even if Glock mags are kinda meh for PCC's and if it's just a range toy, you're right, who cares.

However if I had to choose one over the other, I'd take an MP5 any day and twice on Sunday.

Indeed. And you can make an AR9 a lot lighter too.
But most importantly: it’s mute because “lighter” doesn’t at all equate to “better”.

Not hating on the legendary MP5. We all like them. As a submachine gun they are awesome. PCC not as much, imo. But certainly cool, effective, and desirable.

But AR9’s are massively varied and not all the same. There’s a huge spread in quality and even function. In general, they offer many advantages over an MP5. For many, an MP5 will be a good choice. And for many others, an AR9 is the right choice.

People don’t all need and want the same thing.

Yeah, I agree with you about which one feels better to shoot full-auto- I've had experience with MP5's (instructor) - but my comment was about how much of a difference a pound made on the range between the two. Personally, I have KH94's and copies, and AR 9mm's - for what they are, PCC's, I don't see a hug difference when popping steel from 50 or closer.

MP5s are really cool, and I have seen two guys in the Southeast who shoot USPSA with them. I don't remember names, they aren't local to me but I've seen them at majors. They aren't the guys winning big matches, but I remember being really impressed watching one of them shoot a few stages. Maybe someone knows who I'm talking about.

As far as them being superior in every way to AR9s... I think its just whatever you prefer. Competitively they're irrelevant. The guys winning big PCC matches are shooting some type of AR, although JP has a new AR that has some sort of roller delay system that is a descendant of the MP5 operating system and I believe Max Leograndis used it for his last national title. Saying it was due to the new/adopted tech would be hard since he's won every USPSA PCC national title, ever.
