You sure they are lighter? I think they are pretty close if you compare similar length barrels.Don't see why they wouldn't. They recoil far less than a blowback AR and are significantly lighter

Stripped mp5k is 4.4 pounds. Add a lightweight stock and red dot and you could still be under 5lbs and have a stocked weapon with an optic or just iron sights if you wanted to be as light as possible.Weighed my 16” ar9:
6lb 13oz. That includes:
C-More metal railway optic
Big compensator
Magwell, etc.
Likely around 6lbs stripped of the accessories. If it were 8” about 5lbs most likely.
Having shot both AR-9's and MP5's both suppressed and unsuppressed I'd say that an MP5 is far more enjoyable to shoot. The roller delay is just smoother, less abrupt and more pleasant to shoot.I understand the weight thing if you're carrying it 20 clicks with an 80 LB pack, what's an extra pound for a range toy? Would a little extra weight be a positive thing as far as mitigating recoil?
And which would have a greater effect on recoil, the roller-delay or the extra pound? And who would notice?

I get the AR-9's can be had for cheap and probably take a mag that alot of guys already have even if Glock mags are kinda meh for PCC's and if it's just a range toy, you're right, who cares.
However if I had to choose one over the other, I'd take an MP5 any day and twice on Sunday.
