AR Rifle pic thread

Swapped out my linear comp on this 11.5” 5.56 AR pistol to a 5050 shroud from our newest sponsor

Have you got to shoot it yet? I’d like to hear your thoughts on function. Also, care to post a full length pic of the gun?

Took a couple shots today. It was more pleasant than the 7.5” w/ riot brake. 🤪

Not sure it’s much different than with the linear comp, as I didn’t shoot it both ways today. I swapped mainly for aesthetics.

Thanks Waylon - that looks awesome.

For all intents and purposes this IS a linear compensator. As far as I can tell "linear compensator" is a clever marketing term that simply refers to a device that directs blast forward.

I figured out that my 100rd drum fits my scar, it goes in ok with the bolt back but you have to rip it out if the bolt is forward, because of the hard plastic on hard plastic, meh it’s fun at the rangeATI 60 rounders fit perfect too

After perusing the thread about where do you store your ammo, I emptied half of a safe storing 16 50 cal ammo cans filled with loose ammo. Took the opportunity to rearrange and a group family photo.

Have not yet decided what optic to put on the HK, Probably the Steiner 1-4.
I love all of these but I especially love those shorties

It's an 11" PWS with a Turbo K on the end. It's my primary gun (for good reason) and I will never change it unless I go through with getting the 10.5" LWRC IC-A5.

PWS MK1 Mod2 Ambi Lower
LMT Ergo Grip
Magpul SLS Stock
Geissele SSA-E Trigger
PWS 11.8" MK1 Mod2 Upper

Surefire M322C Mini Scout with dual tail switch

First, this is gorgeous. Looks like an absolute joy to handle.

Second, taking pictures of guns is hard but you did a really good job here

I've not shot it nearly as much as I'd like, but when I have it is amazing. The Turbo K takes so much more off the 5.56 signature than you'd think. The length is great, but I could see a 10.5 being slightly better. I do plan to use this gun for a Carbine class or 2 once my plates come in and I can finish one of my carriers.

That's awesome. Post a vid sometime.

What is that handstop? I love it and want one for my 9mm pistol

I had a rainy afternoon project, too. Put together a semi precision gas gun to get rid of nuisance critters the .22lr cant handle.

Aero M4E1 upper and lower
Aero LPK
Magpul fixed carbine stock
Magpul MOE grip
16" Ballistic Advantage 1:7 barrel carbine length gas
Aim Sports free float Mlok handguard
Warne 30mm 20 MOA MSR mount
Random AAC three prong flash hider I had in a parts box
Fail Zero Nickle Boron BCG
Streamlight ProTac rail mount 2 to show me eyeballs and silhouettes in the tree line
And a Bushnell Nitro 4-16x44 Deploy Mil/Mil FFP to see them with.

Soon, I'll go put a mag full of surplus through it and then see how the Hornady 68gr BTHP groups up after that. Hope it performs like I think it will.

Springfield saint.
13.7” barrel with dead air brake pinned/welded on, making it 16.3”

I guess that is the Saint Edge? That billet lower is pretty sweet! Hadn't seen those. Did you get the "modular match trigger", or have you tried it? Just curious.

Yes saint edge. It was a 16” before. I’m not sure on the trigger, but whatever trigger is in this thing is super light and has a very short reset. It can be fired very fast.

Decided to scratch the itch of Krylon. I'll post final pics when I'm done. I like it so far.

Looks great.

Every rig I have is painted. Usually one of the first statements that pops up is, “Won’t that hurt the resale value?”

Nah…not if you don’t aim to sell it.👍

It’s a tool…paint it. If it gets scufffed up/worn and it bothers you, shake the can and touch it up.

Good work!

Did a 50 Shades of FDE build. I'll go outside and get pics in better lighting in a bit.
Geissele Super Duty 11.5" Pistol. Form 1 was submitted almost 2 weeks ago.
Aimpoint T2 FDE Limited Edition
Unity Tactical FDE Micro Mount
Unity Tactical Micro Hub with fixed front sight and left side wing mounted towards the rear on right side
Modlite 18650 with PLH-V2 head
Modbutton Light
Emissary Development FDE Handbrake

Trying to decide if I need an FDE can...

I was just reading up on that mount and it seems there is a built in rear BUIS. That's pretty cool. Like it?
Haven't shot it yet, but hoping to this weekend. The built in BUIS is pretty cool, and it actually comes with a front post too that you can put into the front of the mount. Short short sight radius though, but if you were just needing something for CQB and wanted to keep a front iron off your rifle (like because you were running a light laser combo, etc) it would likely suffice.

What is the o.d. of that barrel?

IIRC, the 177E1s were .625.

@Dan0311…

Tell ya what; I’m gonna tag a couple fellows on here that have a hell of a lot more knowledge about the platform than I do. I guarantee one or both of them will be able to give you a solid answer.

One of my favorite ARs that I assembled earlier last year. I'm constantly swapping out parts to try. Started out with BCM receivers and this is how it sits now. She's been to a couple carbine courses and has never failed me at any time. It doesn't look like it, but it's very light. The Midwest Industries Ultralight rail and the Leupold Multigun LPVO keeps the weight way down.

Snazzy stuff and I like the light.

I've got a couple.

Dedicated AR.22 Trainer. TacSol upper / full Aero lower. Vortex AR Sparc, ARF-X stock. Generic M-lok forend, TacticalLink sling and mounts, Troy BUIS, Surefire E1B light in a Gear Sector offset mount. It nominally resembles my HD rifle, for training purposes.

My first NON-black AR. STS Arms, formerly of Mapleton, OR - now, out-of-business. :( I won the cerakoted lower in a contest on another forum (also now long-gone), so I decided to buy a cerakoted upper from them as well, and let them barrel it while they were at it! 1: 7 twist, hard chrome White Oak, 14.7 bbl. with a p/w PWS FSC556 f/h. Had a quad rail when I put it all together in 2010 - put this Troy V-Tac tube one it a couple of years ago, so as to attach M-lok goodies to it now. Troy BUIS (always!), InForce light, Magpul furniture, Aimpoint 2moa T-1 and Echo 9-Three sling. Ranier Arms BCG & BCM LPK.

I died laughing, when I saw the Spikes "special snowflake" lower at my favorite LGS a few years ago... so I got one. Got a good deal from Primary Arms on the complete Troy upper (16" 1: 7, chrome bbl), and while I wanted a black one, I settled for the FDE, which is all they had in stock. So this became a semi-FDE build; Daniel Defense LPK. Magpul goodies, 2moa Aimpoint T-1, an LAPG sling, and an older (400 lumen) InForce light top this one off. BCM BCG.

My HD (go-to!) rifle. Addax Tactical custom built Vltor MUR billett upper, 14.7 Sabre Defense 1: 8 p/w bbl with a YHM Phantom comp. Complete BCM lower, Gieselle SSA trigger, & BCM MCMR M-lok 13" forend (had DD quadrails when I built it in 2009 - upgraded to the slimmer MCMR a couple of years ago). InForce 800 lumen light, Aimpoint T-1, Magpul furniture and sling, Troy BUIS and BCM BCG.

"Archangel." This was THE last rifle ever built by Johnson Tactical Rifles here in Pittsburgh, back in the summer of 2011. In fact, I bought a nice size chunk of his shop and put it in my garage, before he went to work for REI, and they hauled him away to Washington state. :(

Some basic specs on this rifle, from his archived website.

Quote: Features Overview

• Comes standard with a 1/8 twist, 18", Medium Profile 416SS barrel. Available with a number of other barrel options (See Below)

• Full Auto Carrier, High Pressure Tested and Magnetic Particle Inspected Bolt properly staked and lapped flat carrier key. Chrome lined Young National Match carriers available!

• Barrel chambered with matched bolt

• Standard with Troy Extreme 13" Rail. (Mine utilies a 15" Troy tube!)

• Available in Rifle or Intermediate, or Mid gas lengths

• 11 degree target crown

• Low profile gas block

• A2 Flash Suppressor

• Polished M4 feed ramps

• Mil-Spec Forged 7075 T6 upper receiver with T-markings, forward assist, hinged dust cover, and M4 feed ramps.

1. These uppers feature my Limited Life Time Warranty.

2. High Pressure Testing followed by Magnetic Particle Inspection assures a rock solid bolt.

3. 223 Wylde chamber increases accuracy and works with 5.56 NATO or .223 SAMMI spec ammunition.

4. Every upper is built by one person from start to finish.

5. I guarantee that every SPR Upper will hold sub-MOA groups and prove that by sending you a picture of the test!

6. I custom fit the rail/upper, chamber/bolt, gas block/barrel, and comp/flash hider interfaces to insure a highly accurate build.

7. We align our barrel blanks to 2/10000 of an inch bore alignment before threading or chambering!

8. These are uppers are built for pushing the 5.56 to ranges unheard of before. I use the Gritters or Two Line method to chamber my SPR barrels. It adds UP MOA to the shot allowing you more elevation at distance.

Quality Assurance

Every single upper that Johnson Tactical produces is fully tested before delivery to the customer. We feel your paying for quality and our job is to insure that is what you are getting! We start by manually inspecting every part, then as the build progresses it’s fit with the other components. Some parts are hand fitted to ensure tighter tolerances. A good example of this is the gas block to barrel fit. This needs to be precise to eliminate gas leaks

I went with his custom nitrided barrel.

Quote

This is my stand alone nitrided barrel offering. Available configurations include:

-Only available with a .223 Wylde chamber currently.

-Includes a Headspaced, HPT/MP bolt with extractor upgrades

-Carbine, Mid, Intermeidate, or Rifle length gas systems with a .750 gas block seat that is 2" in length

-Single set screw seat indexed to the gas port

-Barrel lengths in 12.5, 14.5, 16, 17, 18.5, 20, or 24 inch

-18.5" lengths and longer are chambered using the two line method and timed up

-Available in a 1/7 or 1/8 twist rate (traditional rifling)

-My base profile is a modified medium contour.

-Comes standard with a 11 degree crown

-Threaded 1/2-28 at the muzzle

Went with another PWS FSC556 f/h. Had a Luepold Mark AR in a LaRue mount on it originally - changed in 2019 to a Vortex Viper Gen.II PST 1x6, in a Vortex mount, since, in the urban jungle, an LPVO makes more sense, than a 3-9x40.

Generic, 'totable' sling, Magpul furniture, Harris bipod, Troy BUIS, Vltor MUR billet upper, complete BCM lower, but BEST of all - Giselle SSA-E trigger, and Young National Match BCG.

These are my "INTERESTING" AR's, anyways... ;)
