Best non AR, semi auto for coyotes.

If its been asked, I missed it, @Moneyshot1982 why not an AR platform?
Ot's easy to assemble what you're after, and make it fit you. I've got them from 8" folding 300BLK, 16" 223 pencil barrel, 18" heavier precision stocked 6.5 Grendel.
There's a good chance you can find a used one for a good price that'll fit your requirements.

I’m on the hunt for a savage model 25 in 5.7x28.
I didn’t think the model 25 was semi-auto? I could be wrong. Won’t be the first time, just ask the wife lol

Actually the Ruger LC Carbine would be a great option. Friend has one and really likes it, lightweight and portable. Round should work well enough for Coyotes.

whats the “best” or at least some ideas on what a good non ar, semi auto platform for shooting coyotes out ton150 yards? and Go!!!

I’ve never been coyote hunting and don’t want to break the budget. So let’s say under 1k.

Just a bit outside his stated budget

As stated above, the BEST tool for your job AND budget is a decent AR15 with a good optic and ammo. You will get fantastic results once you get everything dialed in and practice abit.

2nd Choice: Mini 14 or Mini 30... These would work well but they cost quite a bit relative to the performance.

You could even build an AR Varmint Special if you desired. Pick the barrel length you want and buy a barreled upper.

I bought one of these on a whim about 7-8 years ago.

24" SS Bull Barreled upper in 1-8 twist

From another vendor, I added a "Combo Deal" lower receiver/parts kit and a full A2 GI stock kit for $169.
From My "Parts Box" came a Wilson Combat TTU 3g trigger and a 20 year old Leupold Scope. It performs well. This gal makes 400 yard "Across the pond" shots on a 12" AR 550 plate.

A shorter barrel upper and a LPVO would make a great combo too. Find a deal on a lower and you would have a good "on budget" basis for your hunts.

Mini 14 or maybe a Keltec SU16 CA
I have one and it is lightweight and has decent accuracy.

With the rarity of these anymore it might not be in budget. :)

I've had one of the B variants, and currently have one of the C. You can get the folding stock from keltec to turn the B or CA into a C, but you can't get the fixed stock from them to turn the C into a B or CA. They're random like that.

Not helpful at all but what you need is a an AR in 6.5 G

I have the CA and left it as is.I have thought about getting the forend for it, but don't think it would accomplish that much. It already has sights and a rail to mount an optic. They are a very lightweight .223. Mine is not a tackdriver but has good practical field accuracy. I have had no problems with it and like the magazine storage in the stock.

I mean when you think about it, the available semi autos:
Under $1k budget:

Daewoo K2(Out of budget)
HK/PRT 91/33/that weird x39 one(out of budget)
VZ58(out of budget)
SCAR Light(out of budget)
FN49(Out of budget)
Ljungman(out of budget)
FAL(Out of budget)
AK(you no likee)
Bren 2(Out of budget)
Sig 556(Out of budget)
Steyr Aug(out of budget)
Beretta ARX(Out of budget)

Within Budget:
Garand(cheapest may be in budget)
SKS(In budget)
Cetme(overkill)
Cetme L(Unreliable)
Century VZ2008(within budget)
Cheaper AR like Palmetto State Armory(well within budget)

PSA AR seems best, if budget is the deal breaker. Maybe I missed something, but even if you didn't want the AR, it seems to be the best bang for your buck.

Walked in a shop in concord saw this and said, I’LL TAKE IT!! I’ve been looking for a 5.7x28 rifle and this fits the bill. The all new. Ruger LC 5.7x28 carbine. Takes Ruger 57 mags, ambi controls, side charger, adjustable folding stock, and 16.25in threaded barrel. Currently wearing a dead air mask suppressor. (Was not included) 🤣
LOVE IT!!!!! now to select an optic. 49976616-44AB-4102-872A-1F3529537D42.jpeg

You're going way to heavy in caliber for coyotes. There's no need to step above .223 for the ranges you're talking.
I'd just go with a 20in ar platfom, a bolt action in .222 or, if you just want to stay in a semi automatic but don't want the military look for whatever reason then I'd step on down to .17hmr and go with something like this.
