That's a great question. I know of the 10/22 take down but I'm not sure how it comes apart. I'm trying to remember how the Henry survival rifle breaks down.I've never owned one either, but I seem to recall they come apart for ease of storage and transport. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was in said condition and the Commie-goon squad tried to claim it was an SBR.
That being said, yes, it was an add on and it looks like she won the stupid prize for playing stupid games.

I'm. It dismissing it, rather I'm condemning it as bullshit. I should have been more clear.I find it a bit odd that some of you guys are dismissing this as "just an add on charge". This is a felony punishable by 10 years in federal prison. Her other charges were merely misdemeanors that would most likely not result in any prison sentence at all.
State officers can't charge federal crimes. It was a California ordinance they charged. Not sure if felony or misdemeanor as we have no equivalent.I find it a bit odd that some of you guys are dismissing this as "just an add on charge". At a state level it's still an SBR, just like it would be here in NC...except we'd call it a Weapon of Mass Death and Destruction.State officers can't charge federal crimes. It was a California ordinance they charged. Not sure if felony or misdemeanor as we have no equivalent.
... I don't think she was cleaning it and with the composite knuckle and drug paraphernalia I'm guessing they threw everything they could on the wall to see what they could get to stick. "Intent" I'm guessing will be a word used quite a bit in her case."As the Officers approached they saw Leticia had quickly hid a rifle on the ground next to her,” said the report. “The rifle was a Ruger .22 caliber rifle, which had been modified by having the butt stock removed. It was determined that the rifle was an illegal short barreled rifle.”
10/22 will fire without a stock. So what? That means I am a felon every time I take one apart to clean it?
Yet another one of those victimless "crimes" against the crown, that only the king's agents would bother to try to enforce. Things like this are absolutely representative of a NON-free people. If the crown weren't allowed or tasked with enforcing its edicts, but rather that fell to The People, things like this wouldn't be an issue.Sounds like she was breaking multiple laws... Stupid as I think SBR laws are, if she was using it without the stock to make it shorter so she could conceal it, that's an SBR. You can fire a 10/22 without the stock. The mag will stay in it.
Agreed we should really look askance at malum prohibitum laws. But self-policing does not work in a heterogeneous, multicultural, multireligious (including agnostics/atheists) society. Something like that might work in a very homogenous society like Japan, or Sweden prior to it opening its legs to Islamic invasion, and even then it's questionable as populations get very large.Yet another one of those victimless "crimes" against the crown, that only the king's agents would bother to try to enforce. I have a 10/22 breakdown model
It comes apart just after the trigger, with maybe 2 or 3 inches of barrel attached. I dont know if it'd fire as is, but I dont see why it wouldnt.
If one of my kids manages to run off with a part of a real gun I have to play cops and robbers, I've got bigger problems.Take your stock off to clean 10/22, kids runs off to play cops and robbers in the woods with the stock. Stock lost in the woods or broken.
Felon in possession of a weapon of mass destruction!!!
This. I just checked mine to be sure.It won't fire without the barrel assembly attached. The chamber goes with the barrel when it comes off. The only thing left attached to the receiver is the barrel collar. No chamber, no bang.
The thing is that the system we have here also doesn't work. Look at what went down last night in St. Louis MO. Arrests? Pa-lease. The legal system was also designed around the idea of a righteous, moral, and productive people. We don't have that. One has to ask if a forced integration society is a good thing? I'm inclined to say no, it's not. I think that if we were to remove the the govt from the equation people would naturally self segregate into much more homogenous societies. Of course in the process we would be hearing all sorts of cries and "civil rights" violations (shrug), but natural intolerance would quickly cause natural realignment. Believe me, when the penalty for being where your not wanted is high enough, you'll leave. Obviously the initial thought here is racial separation, but it goes way beyond that in that "trash' of any color won't be tolerated in the productive circles within groups.Agreed we should really look askance at malum prohibitum laws. Thank you, I havent looked at mine in a few months, but was thinking there was a few inches past the chamber before it disconnecting. Sorry for lying to the community. It won't fire without the barrel assembly attached. The chamber goes with the barrel when it comes off. At any rate, I think.the point holds true.
If you bought a Kidd barreled action, apparently you would be buying an illegal Sbr.
Just doesn't seem quite right.

Nope. That's not the reason. In both of your examples, you're buying a barreled action...which isn't a rifle.I didn't think about that... I bought a barreled action from a LGS awhile back. Am I a felon now?

Not if all the pieces are together. Your "constructive possession" situation leaves you with an LBR.Never even thought about it this way...... still a BS charge but, Every aftermarket trigger I've installed in which I removed the stock..... I was breakin' the law.

Thank You........Damm I thought I was an outlaw. Not if all the pieces are together. Your "constructive possession" situation leaves you with an LBR.
I'm remembering as a kid, I used to have a take apart plastic rifle as a toy, that I now realize was an AR-7. My how things have changed. The reason I used that scenario is because I did exactly that with my dads m1 carbine stock as a youth. Man was he pissed! Lol.
