I’ve been waiting on my Black Friday purchase from cloud defensive to arrive and the UPS truck just dropped it off. My Modlites were all delivered within 4 days! I’m shocked at the size difference between the two and after the batteries get a full charge I’m going to compare the lights.

I’m glad I went with modlite for my short barrel rig. The Rein is definitely a beast and is going on my rifle.F9FC9451-760A-4EE8-9216-480ED5D14BE2.jpeg

Looking forward to this

any chance you have the okw as well as the plhv2? I’d like to see the beam spill of both lights inside and outside.

TRex has some good photos of the various beam patterns between the OKW AND plHV2 heads if you scroll down the Modlite page

Also Arisaka Defense, which is located in Chapel Hill of all places, is having a great deal on a Modllite kit which includes: choice of head, battery & charger, SF UE tailcap w/ Modbutton lite and Arisak mount for $379

I didn’t get to play with the lights much due to bed time for the kids but,

Rein

As you can see the Modlite is a cooler (blue) light and a little bit wider spill. The Rein is the warmer (yellow) light and both seem to have the same sized hotspot.
Here’s a better picture showing the difference in light with the Rein on the left and Modlite on the right.E565D55C-AF51-4853-A5E9-9BB7DCD82014.jpeg

This is a great deal, I ordered my first light through Modlite on Black Friday and here’s what I paid.

I then had to go shop for a mount and pay extra for that. I ended up with the arisaka inline fde mount. Arisaka’s kit you get a free mount!

Resurrecting this thread as my Cloud Defensive REIN that I ordered on 11th Jan has just arrived. That was a 6 week wait period for those wondering and only a mere 2-3 weeks longer than originally promised (3-4wks). I have the batteries on the charger now and the 5 minutes I was playing with it around my property was initially impressive.

I do hope that Cloud Defensive can figure out how to better run their business to meet demand (actually have inventory) and better manage customer expectations. I was not involved with but have read numerous threads about how badly they botched the Oct'20 launch of the FDE REIN which is just shipping as of 22nd Feb.

Cloud Defensive makes some of the best lights on the market and I love how you get everything as a package rather than needing to pay extra for the cables and tape switch. It’s also nice that they do a 25% discount for Mil too. That said, they absolutely suck at running a business and their site. I’ll still continue to buy they stuff, just fully know that you’re going to wait a LONG time if you want to get any of their new products.

I agree 110%. The REIN compared to my Surefire M600DF is just an absolute beast, and the Surefire is NOT some cheaply made Chicom crap light. It is solid, but the REIN is just head and shoulders overbuilt above the Surefire.

If you REALLY want one find a distributor with inventory and pay full price or get a discount by ordering direct. Just understand that it will be like waiting on a NFA item!...well not 9-12 months, but more like 8-12 weeks.

Pivoting to: how does the light actually work? So far I am REALLY impressed. The color temp CD chose for the REIN is warmer than most LED's and to me colors looks more natural. Illumination is superb out to about ~75yds and then drops off gradually to max range around ~125yds dependent on conditions and such . I'm in suburbia so it's challenging to find a completely dark/unlit 100yd-200yd area. I find it to have a great balance between hot spot size and spill.

I'm super curious about the Modlite OKW head how it's throw compares to the REIN.

Cloud has a BLEM sale going on currently. The only thing left in stock is the Micro in clear anodized, which actually looks pretty nice! $289 for full kit is a great price:

how do you like that ModButton? I just ordered one last night form Arisaka.

I like it, I have this set up on my 10.5 inch upper so not much room on the rail making the mod button the perfect size.I also would look at unity tactical hot button but I couldn’t find any when I was ordering my setup.

Yeah I looked at that one as well. I went with Modbutton due to the price.

Just order the modlite okw dual fuel and hot button from arisaka. Didn’t realize they had a df model but glad they did.

Edited to add: they’ve got a 10% discount across their site for Memorial Day.

My okw didn’t ship until Tuesday with the holiday this weekend but it arrived today (Wednesday)which was faster than I anticipated.

Just put it on my rifle and walked outside and man it’s like a laser beam. Hopefully I’ll get to do some night time shooting here soon and see how it does compared to the ol’m600df.

Id really like to see it compared to the plhv2 in person. If any of you guys that have one ever get lost out in the Wilkes co boonies after dark give me a shout.

I've been comparing these and am leaning towards the Rein for my rifle. I think the light design, color temp, and switch are better as an out of the box package. The switch is also designed that you don't lose tailcap functionality if using a switch, which is nice in case the switch bites the dust. I think with Modlite the only approach to that is buying the unobtainium Surefire DS00 for $100.

It's also cheaper, esp with the 25% first responder/MIL discount. The only thing that has given me pause is just how HUGE the Rein is compared to the Modlite. The Rein Micro (18350) is about the same length as the Modlite 18650, which is crazy given how tiny the Modlite 18350.

Modlite def has the advantage in customization if you have specific needs or preferences, but I think Rein is overall a better, cheaper package IF you can get past the size.

I'm curious to see what it will look like on my 11.3" pistol....

@fbrdphreak

just a thought but you can use one the 2 pressure pads modlite makes or unity tactical make one as well. I have the unity switch being it has momentary and a constant on function.

Yep there are some great switch options for the mod light. The downside is most of them are near $100, added on top of a $300 light and then needing a different tail cap as well. It's a great solution, it's just a lot more expensive. Also the Rein seems to have better light output management as the battery decreases. Supposedly a longer runtime of usable light, even though they both obviously will at some point decrease output.

I like the ruggedness of my rein but it’s size makes it look like a toilet paper roll hanging out on my rail. The modlite is great for its small size and lives on my 10.3 URGI upper. Both have their strengths and weaknesses and put similar priced surefires to shame!

Another CD Blem sale:

I'm still very happy with my Rein and will be adding a second one.

Ordered Friday and on my porch today!! That's a SIGNIFICANT improvement from my previous purchase experience 8 months ago. Kudos to Cloud Defensive for righting their over-hype & under deliver model of business to meeting and properly managing expectations. The BLEM sale is still ongoing and all colors are still in stock!!

Also the clear anodized color option is quite nice! It's a BLEM so the bezel is Black anodized instead of clear anodized, and the only "defect" I could find on it was a cosmetic pea sized splotch of discoloration.

Not sure how cloud defensive is, but I had an issue with my factory supplied tailcap that came with my modlite 18650 plhv2, contacted CS via email on Saturday and they responded the same day, didn't ask for pictures or anything. Just a few random questions if I tried different batteries, and if I followed the FAQ section on adjusting the contact spring on their website. I was given a shipping notification on Monday (no email responses at 11pm on Saturday or Sunday how dare they 😂) and recieved the tailcap in 7 or so buisness days later. On par with some of the best CS I've experienced.

I am interested in cloud’s upcoming pistol light.
I am too. The Modlite one is interesting in how it utilizes the existing Modlite heads. Curious to see what Cloud does,

There is also apparently a new or updated rifle light in the prototype stages currently.

The product page is live, but no stock is currently available. My guess is Dec 28th or 29th launch date.

Reading their recent IG posts it appears they have had to delay the launch due to the availability/production/finishing of the metal pocket clip. Early Q1 2022 launch is now the goal.

That sucks. No one is going to want that clip anyway.

You know and I know that 99.9% of people will want the Thyrm Switchback option for the extra $20 BUT if they don't offer a basic metal pocket clip (stupid) people will bitch and moan insistently on their social media channels.
It's the World we live in today sadly so I understand Cloud's position. They took a tremendous PR beating in 2020/2021 with the FDE Rein launch fiasco, but to their credit have owned their mistakes and have improved tremendously. What's another week or two of wait time? At least when we order this time we know that they have stock on hand and aren't crowd funding future batches like they were this time last year!! :)
