Commie Rifle Pics Thread

So...is that what it looks like now or did you weld it back together?
My OP is what it looks like now, that picture is what it used to look like. I considered a reweld, but honestly the blueing would make it look terrible after it was rewelded. I opted to build it out on a new receiver from Childers, 1.6mm thick, Chinese marked, with the correct spot welding and rivet pattern.

Russian 5.5mm folding trunnion and a pistol grip reinforcement plate spot welded in. The -68 were fixed stock variants.

Yep, I should have remembered that. I have a 68.

Do you like the 68 better than the SLR-104 FR? I remember there was a debate about that a while back.

If you want a true 100 series, the SGL-31 is king. Built on the 90s tooling, Russian pedigree, closest thing we can get to the real thing in the states.

That said, the 104FR is my go to 5.45 rifle. They are known for being very reliable, and I have 15k-18k (maybe a barrel in the future) on mine and it hasn't ever missed a beat. The Arsenal finish on them is crap, but easily fixed. For a shooter / avid collector I'd recommend the 104FR every time.

Here is a video of mine before I restored the furniture back to Norinco wood. The muzzle blast in sustained full auto knocked the phone/camera right off the railing.

Boilermaker?

Saturday should be a fun game. Anyway, excellent AK - welcome to the party, pal!

Thank you kind Sir for the warm welcome. Yep lived in West Lafayette from 86 thru 92. Parents were getting their PHDs from Purdue. Moved to Chapel Hill in 93, then Durham, then Atlanta in 2000. 2001 I did my Freshman year at Purdue as a Mechanical Engineer, then transferred back to Georgia to finish the degree at Georgia Tech. I have multiple houses in GA, but I plan to build my ultimate 100+ acre compound/farm in the NC mountains within the next decade.

How do you get your hands on something like this?

Honestly, pure luck. My buddy buys stuff from police auctions and resells. He usually calls me when he has questions about AKs he is looking to buy. He called me about this one, and I told him he can't resell it cause it was mine lol.

I think these MilSurps jumped up in price faster than most others. As an SVT owner ('41 and '43 Tulas), I watch the prices go up and up. At one point I was thinking that Russia would find and release 1000's more into the U.S. market, hurting the value, but it doesn't seem we'll be getting more rifles from Russia any time soon.

Agreed. These have rocketed in price. The most recent two I saw sell on gun broker went for $3100 and $5100.
