Concealed carry on a field trip? Yay or nay? Story included

You can do whatever you want to as long as you are prepared for the consequences. Just remember that when the officer arrests you it was your choice to knowingly violate the law.
That’s true, but if you are not chaperoning and driving yourself to the event, then you are not illegally carrying UNLESS the place is posted and if it isn’t then you are not doing anything illegal. Of course like @JohnFreeman said, the chance of it even being an issue is close to zero. That being said each person must decide what they want to do or not do and live with those consequences.

Went to the park last week. Funny thing is, my daughter was on a field trip to that same park. What a coincidence! I was not a chaperone. Just a visitor to the park.

This is at the entrance to the park.

Then what's the problem?

I just want to know who's doing overwatch? ;)

What's the fantasy here?

Something goes down in a crowded park full of kids? That something rises to the level of needing a deadly force response. The force can be successfully applied with a deep-carry gun.

I know this is a gun forum, and we luv our guns, but we should be realistic about how little "good guy with a gun" will ever be a practical concern.

If it's too dangerous a place to go without a gun, it's irresponsible to take a child there. If it's just a case of super-far-fetched-what-if**, then take the gun or don't, the end result will be the same. Kids play in park, kids have fun, kids go home.

**super-far-fetched-what-if is the primary reason most of us actually carry guns. Have you ever noticed how all the unarmed people around you have the same need for the gun as you have (none)?

anyone who has ever been on “active self Protection“ will disagree with you. 🤣

I"m sure the pocket knife community is having similar discussions on whether or not to still carry pocket knives .

A good point about LTL earlier. I’ve carried a weapon for years and years; very limited use compared to the hundreds of times I’ve used OC/freeze +P on humans and dogs.

My suggestion was mostly because you're a lot less likely to end up with charges if you OC some scumbag in the face than if you apply a 9mm to same. And if you get the wrong DA they at least can't put the deadly weapon or intent to kill/wound bonuses on those charges.

And while chemical irritants aren't fun, over spray isn't going to kill anyone like a missed round could.

"Just remember when you are unjustly persecuted by the state for exercising your inalienable, God-given rights, that you were asking for it."

Fixed it for you.

Well I had the pleasure of being a chaperone for my daughters 1st grade trip to a local nature center. I had to drive 1 other child in my car. Nothing changed except I choose to carry my PM9 instead of my G19 for a less likely to print but also in case any kids or parents bumped into me. Car loadout stayed the same. Business as usual.

Yes it was posted no weapons. Yes I didnt care. No one was the wiser. Next time ill just carry the G19. I had no issues.

Wind blows your shirttail up, or you bend over to help a child, and the teacher sees it. And nearly all educators are just gun crazy.
I would be concerned about this. What’s the risk or probability of this situation compared to the probability of a situation requiring the use of a gun? Seeing as the stupid politicos covers the base of extracurricular activities being an extension of educational property I would say your best bet is to simply not be an official chaperone and be an unofficial one instead, hint hint.

If the park is city or county make sure you know the rules in that place. They can have unposted rules. Me personally if someone messes with my kid I wont need a firearm.

I definitely don't care, bad people that want to do harm don't follow the rules so why should we when it comes to protecting our loved ones.
I really wish I could say I don't care at all. Like the OP, I tend to weigh on a case-by-case basis the potential consequences of compliance against those of non-compliance.

However, making a choice between exercising the most fundamental of rights (self defense) and risking a felony charge that potentially results in prison time is not one that any otherwise law-abiding citizen should ever have to make. Not only is it completely illogical from a public safety standpoint (as you point out), but it is simply unjust. At the very least, we should all be offended as hell that we even have to consider such things.
