Trying to help @LizardKing with a project, Cub Cadet HDS 2165 WITH A 2 cyl. Briggs & Stratton engine ( engine model # 303447 ). Seems the charging system is not working.

Checking voltage at the battery terminals, no change as the rpms increase.

The yellow two wire connector should be the wiring coming from the stator to the regulator ( reluctor ? ). Checked the AC voltage coming out of the connector, got 4 volts.

The single red wire that is disconnected should be the wire coming from the regulator to the battery, got zero volts.

Best we can determine is the stator is bad. I'd be happy if someone would tell me I don't know what I'm doing and the solution is something simple.

Any ideas?

I’d have to do some looking but iirc you can check the impedance across the voltage regulator to make sure it’s good/bad. Idr what voltage should be coming from the stator.

First find the wire that comes out from under the flywheel - this is from your stator - you should get something over 14 volts out of that ( check for both AC and DC voltage- not sure what your engine is equipped with ) either way this is what produces the voltage needed. If you aren’t getting at least 14 Volts with engine running the stator is your issue
Th little box on the side is your voltage regulator - this will make sure not to overcharge your battery and convert power to DC if your stator produces AC voltage

This is a good resource

Either way if you have voltage coming from your stator the regulator (little box on the side ) is bad - this is the more common item to fail. Stators generally do not fail
