Cyclist beat to death on raleigh greenway

Everyone knows cyclist rarely carry a wallet so he probably was not killed for money. I doubt it was a single person.

Outlaw blunt objects! People should have to pay $200 tax stamps every time they want to pick up a stick or a rock...

Did they take his bike? You can't find bikes in shops now, they are all sold out until the 2021's come out. I carry a G42 in my bike jersey back pocket but it takes awhile to get it out. My wife says that I need to wear an ankle holster on each leg when I ride!
I hope they catch the bastard and fry him but that won't help this man and his family now.

They knew what brand of bike he was riding before they knew who he was, so I think they left it.

WTF is wrong with people ... the 17 year old girl a couple days ago now this? People say the world is going to hell ... news flash the Devil is thinking he don’t want some of these POS’s down there.

I used to ride a road bike, something over 20 years ago. The first time I rode over about 10 miles I realized my legs were like jelly and I was basically defenseless. I started carrying my NCDL (for ID), a little bit of cash, and a small pistol in a fanny pack.

Smart wife, but I say have that thing on your chest! There are "holsters" for that.

Gonna be hard to deploy it... Needs a swivel mount on the handlebars...

Carry water bottles x2 in the back shirt pockets; 1x on the seat tube; and replace the bottle cage on the down tube with a kydex holster mount.

I ride that trail sometimes on my bicycle, usually east of there, closer to where it joins the Neuse River Trail. Looks like he was murdered where the trail went under S. Saunders Street, just on the north side of where S. Saunders crosses I-40 (Flowserve & Red Roof Inn). I just bought a Kenai chest holster but didn't expect to need it until deer season.

Note to others: The Kenai looks good on those 25 year old models on the web page but kinda stupid if you have a gut.

I can’t recommend the hill people recon bag highly enough. I got Steve at Steve’s custom Kydex to build a simple taco style kydex holster for my xds inside the kit bag. Really quick to deploy, looks like a chest pack. Holds some extra gear for the bike , a reload, and my license and ccw. Perfect.

As long as you can get to the gun fast, who cares how it looks!:)

I kinda like the Alien Gear because I would probably wear it outside my jersey open carry style. Although I still sweat a lot since my daily rides are 25-30 miles right now. I can't imagine the looks I would get from the folks in Myers Park on the "Booty Loop"!
Another question, what is the law on open or concealed carry on a public road that goes through a college campus. Queen's Rd goes right through Queen's College.

Everything looks good on a 25 year old model otherwise they wouldn't be a model.

A 25 year old model would look good on me as well, just for the record.

If I were to ride places I didn't feel 100% safe in, I'd buy some of those funky shorts with all the padding. Should make it easier to hide a small pistol as no one would dare want to be caught looking at the funky bulges.

Nah. My wife has those shorts and rides 25miles every other day. They are very form fitting. No pockets. On body carry on a bike is a conundrum. A non ballistic alternative for me would be a neck knife/push knife on a lanyard inside my shirt. But Ive ridden with a gat before and it wasnt comfortable. I'd go off body in a pouch or bag that attaches to the handle bars. I've walked and ridden the whole greenway system all the way from Falls Lake to Clayton but I have not done the Walnut Creek area where this took place. We put in on the greenway at Poole Rd one time and there was a group of 3 urban yoots that were looking for trouble on the trail on our way back. One had a basketball and I was certain he was going to throw it at my head to try and knock me off the bike. I was ready and stared him down and nothing happened. I dont ride anymore but my wife does and she wont carry. I'm done asking and begging. Its her funeral. I dont go anywhere without at least 2 guns.

When I bike commuted from Burbank to L.A. for 20 years I carried a big can of pepper spray. It worked on dogs but not so well on crazy drivers. One pursued me for several blocks until I lost him when I pulled into an apartment garage. My crime? I yelled at him when he blew through a stop sign and almost flattened me. It was like that movie "Duel". The car windows were completely tinted black and no front plate on the car. I have no idea what was driving it but the incident reconfirmed for me that evil walks (or drives) among us. He meant to kill me.

No CCP in Los Angeles county unless you are a movie star or mega donor to the Sheriff's election fund.

I don't want to carry off body. If a car or thug separates me from my bike I'll be SOL.
