Dec/Jan 2022 22Lr rimfire 50 yd Challenge

Caldwell Rock on Amazon. Back in 2014. It comes with both rest. reg and wide

Edit: They went up $18
I just ordered it from Cabelas, used my points and got free 2 day shipping and for around $100. Some of the reviews say the bag is a little flimsy and tears up. Have you had any problems. I have been using a Caldwell Junior that I modified a little.

That's what I like, somebody thinking ahead and overconfident.
I'll go ahead and shoot 100 too!

But yeah I'm more limited to when I can visit the range. If shorter distances(pistol range) it wouldn't be much of a problem. My buddy actually just did something similar that NC Wildlife held for vets....I think it was only 20 or 25yds.

I believe the one you ordered is different then the one I have. Here is the amazon link Amazon product ASIN B000S5W78A

Good shooting. Hard to follow you two but I will be posting tomorrow night as headed to range in morning. I have started to get some better ammo to test (usually use CCI standard) but tomorrow will have to be CCI standard. Not ready for the testing but do have SK standard plus, Eley Target, Eley prime, Eley tenex, wolf match target and Norma Tac-22.
When I was shooting USBR I shot Eley Tenex. Eley Target was for practice due to costs. Back then though you could buy Target by lot number also just like Tenex. If you would post up your findings after you test everything. I am always curious how different rifles do with different brands of ammo.

I have been shooting Wolf Match Target from Target Sports. It is made by Eley now. Good results in my CZ's. Cost is more than CCI, but less than Eley Match. I have some SK Long Range that is very consistent at 50 and 100 yds. Hope to catch a break in the weather over the weekend and shoot some golf.

So I got out but did not do well at all. My shots are all over the place. Thinking of just tearing it all down and starting from scratch but we will see what happens next week when I test better ammo.
Ruger American w/ Vortex viper.
Ammo was CCI standard
Wind was about 5-7 MPH

got a 22 but lost track and didn’t notice I forgot to Finish one up so just marked as a 3. Holes are hard to see but I did like the target.

That's what I shoot too...I bought it for $50/brick back in CO and got some Eley Match here for double the price. I can't tell the difference. Kind of wish I would've bought all of them while I was there.

It seems like I remember you saying that you shoot at the Uwharrie range in Ellerbe. Is that correct?
It looks like you have the equipment to needed to shoot a higher score. Is everything mounted correctly and torqued down?
I am hoping that your ammo testing yields one that groups tight.

Yes, Uwharrie today. You would think I would and I believe it all is tourqued down. Even had it bedded a year ago. I hope so too. Am planning on borrowing a sled for ammo test and going back next Friday.

I was talking to a couple of my Shooting buddies about making a Day trip to this range. One of them just left this morning to Visit the Lapua Test Facilities in Ohio.
He wants to get his Vudoo tested and one other rifle.
We live in Statesville, NC so i believe it's a 2 hour + trip.

Did you notice where most of your misses went? It looks like only 2 misses were above the holes. And about 12 or 13 were below. Almost every "ball in the cup" was low and none were high.
Bet your next target is better.

Make sure the rest has no slack, especially front to back. I just bought a new one of that make and wound up shimming one place and redoing the top. They'd actually gotten it put together out of line.

yes, off target 😂. Most seemed a little low. When I would try to Adjust by aiming a tad high it would of course go exactly where I would shoot it.
I think the Ammo is an issue. Once I can find some that will be consistent then I can not try chasing shots and settle down and just focus on fundamentals. Seems like I am just chasing shots and getting frustrated and then I just pull the trigger.

Caught a window of dry almost sunny weather this aftrrnoon. It was quiet at Carolina Guns and Gear in Franklinton. Easier to concentrate. Tried the Wolf Match Target to warm up the barrell, but had a couple fliers, so went to SK Long Range. Good results. Had trouble with one target in the middle on the first try, then adjusted for the second target.

From the quick responses we are getting on this Golf target it seems like almost every one is enjoying it. I hope to try it again and reduce my stroke count. Looks like we are going to have a 75 yard shoot out at some point.
Good Shooting Eric F.

Well the Sun is shining today, but not so much on me. My Wife and I have tested Positive for Covid, her on the 10 & me the 11. It doesnt help so much with her being a retired Nurse. We are self quarantining for 5 to 10 days. So I am not sure I will get to lower my score to that perfect game. We shall see.

Hope your symptoms are not too bad. That Covid just won't go away. Maybe you can get out by the end of the month. I may be out again this week with a different rifle. Waiting on a part for a new MDT hybrid stock that was not in the box. Dropping an MTR action and barrell into it.

Not as bad as some I have heard of. I am 76 and my wife is 74 so the age doesn't help any.
Good Shooting and good luck on the Tie Breaker. It hard to hide MONEY.

Having retired a while back I enjoy tinkering and upgrading the equipment to stay sharp. I did take advantage of the sale at MDT that comes once a year. (30% off) Took about a year to find a CZ MTR that was reasonable on Gun Broker. That may be it for a long while. Hope I can maintain the skills needed continue to shoot well.

Hope you feel better soon and get out there and shoot that target again.

Off subject slightly. Has anyone figured out away to modify a Caldwell Rock rifle rest to make Windage ajustments? I just upgraded to the Rock and then found out about the Rock BR.

I own both and do not see a good way to do it. Just remember to hold over for wind, you will not be holding over that much at 50 yards. Even with my BR I use it to move over to target but hold either right or left side of said dot for wind. Using the golf target as an example.

I have a Rock BR for target elevation or I use a good bipod. I add a rear bag like most do. Tie a piece of one inch orange flagging tape to the target stand to help with basic wind calls. Its cheap and fits in the bag easily. Much less than a Kestrel. I agree with ECNC holding over for wind.

How are you and your wife making out with that crap?
I have been resting more than usual, my legs are pretty stiff, and I have been sleeping ( tossing and turning) a lot. We both have a cough, mine is more like a dry hack but my wife is really congested. I almost felt like going out Shooting today but decided not to. Don't want to spread it around.

So I decided to try and figure out why I couldn’t get decent groups and always have shots all over. Was it Ammo, Rifle or my lack of skills that was a problem? Borrowed a lead sled from a member and bought 7 different types of ammo to try out. Wanted to try and take as much of me out of the equation.
Even with the sled I couldn’t take all of me out of it but I believe it was enough for the testing. The bench and table I was shooting off of was a little high for me so I actually had to sit on one of my shooting bags. Short torso issues.
Here are the results. Yes, some of it may have been me but can you all spot a difference from one type of Ammo?
So after this I think my Rifle is up to the task except maybe an upgraded trigger. Which is good for my wallet but maybe bad for @Lucky63 since I been drooling over a rifle he has for sale. I think I have the Ammo now that I can get more consistent shots with and have some ability to score ok on our targets. I will never be able to do what some of you all do (some amazing shooters here) but it makes it a whole lot more fun to post targets up and not have fellow shooters call you Stevie wonder.

So after my testing I did have a little time to try a few targets. Here are my best two.
Ruger American in at one Boyd’s stock
Vortex Viper Glass
SK Standard Ammo
winds about 5-7mph with temp about 45 but sunshine
Low was an 11 but undecided if the top left was a hit or not. Even if it’s not and I take a 3 my score would be a 14 and that’s a lot better then my past 22.

Very nice. Top left looks like a hit to me. You and that lower left target do not get along. :)

Glad to see that you are getting it figured out. It is a big confidence builder when those groups start shrinking. You are on the right track and getting back in the game.

tell me about it. I think I need to shoot the others and then turn the target so that the lower left is on top and try it again. I forgot my spotting scope today which made it hard to see the close ones.

11 is a great score Amps13, particularly with the wind you had. SK ammo seems to run well in my rifles, as well. If you try their Rifle Match or Long Range you may see even better groups.

Thanks, now to try and find some 🙄

So far we have two Shooters with Perfect scores. Hopefully we will have more post up their targets and have a few more perfect scores. The weather has not been real kind and understand it’s hard to get out now.
@ECNC and @Eric F are leading and hopefully both can get a chance to move back to 75 yards and see if we can get a tie breaker. For those who end up shooting a perfect score go ahead if possible and shoot one at 75 yards too.
