Dixie Show Raleigh Nov 21 & 22

I went today. Was pretty disappointed. For one, there were far less tables. Two, there was only one kinda half assed table for reloading stuff. Just powder, not the good stuff, and very overpriced. I'm used to seeing several tables. :( I just wanted to buy one of those big bags of ground pecan shells or corn cob that one table always sold. I had no intention of buying anything else. It was amusing to look at the ammo prices though. Range level 9mm was going for 80-90cents a round. The sad thing was... people were buying it.
Have you ever used crushed walnut for tumbling media?
Pet stores sell it for reptile bedding, works well with some nu finish polish when tumbling brass.
Cheap to boot

Hmmm, thanks! I'll have to try. I've only ever used corn cob but I really don't care what I use as long as it works. I'll have to see if our local pet store has anything when I go get the dog's food.

Walnut media is all I use. Bought 25 pounds a few years ago and I’m very satisfied. Nu Finish works great.

Looking for a show report. If any of you went, how was it? Decent offerings, on nice older stuff? How about the crowds, prices, etc??
Crowd was actually less than usual. Any kind of high capacity firearms were expensive, as was the ammo for them. Hunting firearms and ammo was not too bad. Military surplus arms are getting higher and higher.

@I’llBeYourHucklberry, his girlfriend and I were trying to find her to get a picture :)
Her and a guy bought a handgun, then they were gone.

Mods, why can’t I get his handle to hyperlink?

None of y’all spotted the Battery Oaks hat.

No wonder you couldn't find any deals !

The pet stores also sell corn cob media for reptile bedding. I use the walnut for cleaning the nasty stuff and corn cob for polishing.

Bought walnut at Petsmart a week ago, half the price of Cabelas.

who knows every gun and every round of ammo because he has a spread sheet on everything.when he shoots he enters number of rounds and caliber and type and brand that he shot.
Has managed to squash the very last little drop of enjoyment Out of shooting.

Gun shows still have good deals on guns. You just have to buy from the folks walking around and not the folks at tables.
We stopped going to N.C. gun shows years ago. My last trip was when they were arresting people around the picnic tables doing deals in Charlotte.
S.C. is still pretty buyer friendly...see it, want it and buy it. All we are required is to be satisfied the person buying is a S.C. resident. If they're selling all that's required from them is how much is it?
This is probably going away next year....wouldn't surprise me.

We were cheapest on 9mm brass cased, that I saw, at $32 a box, $600 a case. We sold a lot, but didn’t sell out. Always amazes me how few people price shop, relatively speaking.

I think we also had the best price for brass 5.56. Was chided by a couple dealers for not being higher. One is trying to sell Wolf .223 for more than we are selling M855. He hinted at my apparent lack of intelligence for not pricing mine higher. Well, he isn’t the first.

We sold way more milsurps than modern stuff. That is a nice change from the last couple months of shows.

Who looks at other people’s hat logos?

And how did we get to the point where wearing a hat indoors is OK? <-(I realize that is an old-man rant. Most folks don’t even know of a time when men wearing hats indoors was impolite).
And you dang sure had better not have it on at the table.

I remember those times. I also remember a time when wearing a mask was suspicious behavior.

Zoinks.
If it helps, I almost never wear a hat unless it’s raining, or I’m mowing paths in the woods and it’s treated to kill the spiders off. I wore it hoping to meet more of y’all. Plus the large open air Jim Graham building is far from someone’s home.
Sit down at my table with a hat and you will be informed that isn’t what a gent does.

All this hat talk can any of you remember when the "trend" actually began. Let's just say what decade?
The first ones I remember seeing folks that had No Connection with the "product" was.....CAT.....very few folks I knew had catapillers, everybody had the hats.

But, but, but... I got my hat from you.

I went to the show on Saturday afternoon, around 2pm. No line at the door, and not very crowded inside.

Didn't see much in the way of common ammo at the show. I did see a seller with half a case of wolf .223 on his table. Overheard a customer ask how much it was. "$17.00 pre box". The look on the customer's face was priceless. "For steel case?" "Yep."

A lot of old shotguns at this show, and a lot of those weird looking "tactical" Turkish shotguns too. I don't know anything about those, but they look too weird for my tastes.

No reloading components to be found.

If you wanted to spend $1000+ on an AK, there were plenty at the show. I didn't see many complete ARs, but plenty of AR parts.

I walked out with a bucket list gun... a Springfield M1A, and at a fair price.

I'd love to get a 44mag lever action, it was the only gun I was "on the lookout" for at the show. It seems on the rare side to find them at LGS's, but only found one well used one for more than I was willing to pay at the gun show. There were always dealers, in the past, that had a nice selection of new lever actions on their shelves. It's kind of amazing how limited the market is right now. One of the few things I was also looking for, at (what used to be) the usual reloading vendors, was some Hornady FTX .429 bullets. I was very saddened that none (vendors) were there.

Funny you should mention "CAT" hats, I worked at the CAT dealer in Raleigh during the 70's and would purchase a box of CAT hats and would take them to my daddy's store back home and he would sale them. They were very popular back then.

I don't remember folks wearing them before that. Farmers certainly didn't. They wore real hats. Had to be mid 70s when the cap craze began.

And for a reason....you have come a long way twice to visit. Thank You!!!
Or was my pleasure to hear some of tour experiences and history I won’t find anywhere else, AND have the opportunity to see some of the collection not to be seen elsewhere.
Thank you sir!
