Driver Chased Down and Beaten in Portland

That one dude doing all the violence is pretty identifiable. I hope somebody (let's say, the police) find him and take care of him.

All I gotta say is that in a mob like that when there are too many people to reasonably fight in anything that resembles "fair", most of them have their eyes pretty unprotected.
 
Never been to Portland. Don’t understand the populace allowing this kind of thing to even happen.
But I guess unless you live right there you have no immediate need to respond.

Any reasonable person can conclude by all the evidence on YouTube that your statement is accurate.

The key is don't put yourself in the situation, let the mob put you in that situation.

Lots of nose rings, dyed hair and drugs in Portland. It’s likely most of them don’t even notice. :p

Now this were to move to the swanky suburbs things would be different.

Avoid the cities. Especially at night.

This all could have been prevented by more ass beating by Dad when these overgrown children were smaller.

And the elimination of a public monopoly on education.

But then you are shutting down comms for the innocent people that live in those neighborhoods? I think that the police should just go "old school" on these thugs and kick ass and take names.

I understand why you wrote this. Unfortunately it will only cause more issues. It's been said before, enforce the current laws with the result being most of this will be over. The LEOs are being cuffed from doing so and the courts are letting them go.

I used to travel to Portland occasionally on business. Last time was several years ago. My impression was the city became overrun by hippies that could no longer afford San Francisco. They only cared about government handouts, affordable drugs, Voodoo Donuts and Starbucks tofu + lemon grass macchiatos.

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Dads. If a head count was given none of these thugs have a live-in dad or one that has a pair. No raising is obvious to these kids and sadly the matter is only getting worse, we are becoming a nation of bastards.

We always have been a nation of bastards. the idea of both parents parenting is a figure of the imagination of the 1950's. I see this as too many people just flat out do not earn anything. most people do not struggle at any aspect on ones life. This lack of struggle directly relates to what we see now.

Until the local LEO's begin enforcing the laws it's not going to change. I really don't GAF what's causing it, I only care that it is dealt with NOW, right here!! Once things calm down and get back to somewhat normal then we can delve into the possible causes and cures. But RIGHT now it's time to crack some heads...

I hope that never happens in this country. Shutting down of civilian comms is right out of the authoritarian state playbook.

ETA: looks like it did happen at least once, in 2011 in San Francisco's BART system. It also looks like an isolated incident that was widely condemned. CA when will you stop confirming my biases?

The problem with that is that they are still taking videos and will post them whenever they get out of the zone. Then the videos will be highly edited to justify or deny their culpability.

I’d say it’s more LEO leadership along with judicial and governmental support that needs addressing. Local LEO’s I believe for the most part would do better if they were backed by their Sheriff, Chief of Police, State Bureau Head, etc and then the judicial system would not cast their work aside because the DA or such is trying to further his political career. In today’s environment a LEO can have 20 years of perfect service ... no dings what so ever ... and one stop videoed for 15 seconds of a 10 minute interaction can cost him his job. I swear LEO’s of today are more scare of damn iPhones than guns ...

As mentioned, right out of the authoritarian playbook.
Instead, log every cell phone that's pinging towers in the vicinity of the riot. I'm pretty sure we have the tech to locate which ones are where within a few feet so the people in the street and can be separated from the peaceful people who might live in a building on the curtilage of the riot. Start bringing in the rioters for questioning and charges. When they learn that having a phone with you in a riot is a good way to get caught the phones will get left at home. That disrupts their ability to communicate, and their ability to shoot video, but still allows them the right to protest.
The thing that will stop this is actual consequences for their actions. Make a good example out of a few of these guys by having the federal government charge them with terroristic activity and they'll quiet down right quick. The important part is to allow the peaceful protests to reach their natural end when the message wilts and the weather changes. Picking the agitators and violent actors out for real consequences is the solution.
 
Its been years since I was in Portland, OR but it was nice then. I think that is where I found a used book store that had a complete set of Teddy Roosevelt African Game Trails, leather bound with tissue paper pages over the photo pages, old, mint $75. Portland Maine was a blast too. San Fran and Seattle were favorite travel jumping off points as well. Damn, the country is going to hell in a hand basket and all the dems can do is blame guns.

That would assume that the current violence wasn't a planned result of tying the hands of police.
Watch who swoops in to buy up property cheap just before the police are told to start vigorously enforcing the law. Plunging property values is the goal.

I'm not sure that you understand just how wrong you are. In many cases black children were with their biological parents during the slave years. Yes, many families were split up and sold. But nearly as many were not. Through the 1940's out of wedlock children in the black community were fewer than many white communities. Single parenthood is a product of the last century on the scale we see it now. The majority of males in prison are from single parent homes. It's another idea the left praised that has been a cancer on our country.

And the not earning anything is also partly a result of single parent families. The fastest way to get into, or get higher into, the middle class is to 1- graduate high school, 2 get married and do not have children until married, 3- get and keep a full time job. All of those things can be severely effected by being raised in a single parent family. BTDT, got the t shirt. I was raised below the poverty line after my dad left. Luckily I had extended family and value was put on getting an education.

To add, through the vast majority of US history the family structure was the economic basis of the country. Country started off largely agrarian and large families were required to tend farms. Children were considered an economic asset as they provided labor and assurance that care could be kept for parents in their old age. No Social Security and old folks homes like we have now. If you look at some of the family sizes in the 1700-1800s it is not uncommon to find familes with 10-20 kids, and they werent all "bastards". The only historical basis for a "one parent parenting" could only loosely be rooted in the mother being the central home figure while the father was the breadwinner which would be more akin to "absentee father due to seeking work". But as soon as kids were old enough to swing a hoe or toss feed to chickens it was off to work they go.

The peak family size hit around 1860-1920 as infant mortality rates dropped yet large families were still valued. This didn't start to decline until industrialization which began creating work for women outside the home and moved children from an asset to a liability.

What has happened since the 60's, however, has been a growing push to destroy the family structure by offering incentives for single parent households. Some public assistance isnt available for homes with two parents, so there is an incentive to not get married or "I'll lose my monthly check"...and then add on "if I have another baby I'll get more money each month." Couple this with a growing acceptance of "baby daddy" and "babby momma" not being a negative. And a point that was made to me once was seeing how many are effectively raised by grandparents as primary care givers led to the question "If you did such a crap job as a parent that your own children are not (or will not) take care of their own responsibilities, how qualified are you to continue that with yet another generation.

What we are ulitmately seeing is the horrid effects of a few generations of people who have traded the economic possibilities of a strong central family coupled with a dedicated work ethic for a life of mediocrity based on maximizing government hand outs.
