Dumbest thing youve heard in a gun shop

I heard a guy in the pawn shop spouting wisdom the other day. He was in there pawning his Taurus semi auto and I could tell he'd been there before. He was telling them about his uncle had this big rifle that he had gotten for elk. He bought it back in the 1980's, it was a .416 Rigley and a 25 round box of ammo cost over $500 back then.

First time buying ammo a few years ago, "this is the best self defense ammo out there".

$18 and 5 years later its still sitting on my shelf. Cant give it away if I tried.

It’s not that bad ... kinda like the old snake oil medicine thing ... keep it in the box in good condition it’s a good conversation piece and who knows what in the future.

Yeah I’m half kidding while talking about it. It’ll stay in the box on the shelf. Been meaning to just shoot it but forget to pack it.

I’ve got a box of Hornady Zombie Max in a couple different calibers sitting in the cabinet as “snake oil” but I think yours is more rare and I’d keep it and not shot it just because ...

I'd play with apx in 9mm. I have a box in .380 that i need to try out in an lcp

I also have zombiemax in 9mm and 5.56
Some day I intend to make an "break glass in case of emergency" shadow box with a beretta and an m4gery

Good suggestion, I may just do that.

I tried grabbing some of those Zombie boxes a while back and now regret not getting any.

Those are just the standard hornady rounds with a green tip instead of red More marketing mumbo jumbo than snake oil.

This is actually one thing that bothers me. No, not dumb repair people, but having strangers in the house and them seeing firearm stuff. My eventual goal is to have it so that we can have anyone over and they'd never know we had guns. Also, before anyone says it, it's not about being in the gun closet, but simple OPSEC. No reason to make yourself a bigger target than you already are.
Part of why i hate living in an apartment. My building had a pipe break while i was at work and i came home to find a half a dozen guys standing around my apartment looking through a hole in my wall, clear into my neighbor's unit. My couch had everything from a two gun match the day before on it. Luckily i had stuck the guns back in the safe but my belt, mags, ammo and all that other stuff was just sitting there for who knows how many to see.

Also stupidest thing in a gunstore. "It is illegal to have a any safe on the second floor of an residential building"

Not hey don't put a half ton safe on the second floor. But straight up its illegal for any safe to be on anything other than the ground floor.

I bought this upper from Midway last year. Got the below email today:

huh?

in=and
in the answer is no. No matter how long the barrel is, it's still a pistol until you change the stock.
Did I get it right sensai?

Yes! (In most cases, as long as there’s not a local ordinance that defines a pistol has to have a barrel less than some specific length).

I was going to just delete it...but sent this reply instead

That question doesn't make a lot of sense. It's a pistol upper because the barrel is under 16". Thus is has to be used with an AR pistol, or with an NFA-registered SBR. It does also happen to be a pistol length gas system. Changing the barrel might or might not change the gas system length...all depends on where the gas port in the new barrel is drilled.

I didn’t even address the pistol vs rifle classification, as I wasn’t even sure what the real question was.

maybe it helps...maybe it just causes more confusion, and I’m not sure if it goes directly to the person or shows up in the Q&A online

M1 Garand Match in 7.62 built by Vince Jiga - $1000

Vince Jiga built this rifle for me several years ago as I wanted a
    7.62 M1 that could compete.

Vince went through a great deal of his parts (he built over 250
correct M1s for his OWN collection) to select the best parts to build
this rifle. All of these parts are specifically selected & the
    receiver is bedded in.

Vince used to run Camp Perry & built the original Crane order of SPR
uppers when we first sent SpecOps into Afghanistan. Cancer killed
Vince, my close friend, & I then had several heart & kidney operations
including cracking my chest. When I finally decided I could do the
rifle justice I took it to the range. I could see light through the
small rear aperture but not even the front sight. My eyes can now
only see through a scope. !! DAMN !!

This rifle deserves better than me. It needs a home with a skilled
Shooter. I doubt if a master shooter can find a more competitive M1

    HK 41 1974 Package $2000
This is a rare HK41. I've owned a number of these over the years and
this is a nice one. This is the predecessor to the HK91 and was
brought in for 2 years, 1966 and 1974. This is a 1974 version and has
a shiny black finish which was standard for them. This one has the
factory/matching retractable stock, fixed stock, web sling, carry
handle and port buffer (these are removable). It also has the factory
HK41 manual that was shipped with these (these run 100-150 dollars
just themselves). I am including 6 magazines but if I can fit more
    into the box I will.

oh, and some guy came into the shop i was visiting about 5 minutes before close, asking for any ammo he could get, because he bought a pistol somewhere else, and why doesn't anybdy have ammo?
sales guy said they can't keep much in stock and are only selling boxes with gun sales.
I said "hey, remember how i didn't buy a box of ammo when i bought that gun a week ago? can this guy claim it?"
sales guy "sorry, did that twice today already, got told i can't do it anymore"

all they had was steel case russian anyway.

I was in a shop this week and a younger guy was looking at a .40cal Beretta CX4. The guy behind the counter trying to sell it to him said something like

"Them Eye-talians put these thumbhole stocks on thur puhleese car-bens so's when they're crawling on the ground in prone the stock wont get caught up on stuff."

Then he tried to sell me a Taurus revolver that I wasn't even looking at because they're "just as good as Colts with a better warranty".

I personally didn’t think it was funny...but they got a good laugh when I told them the new Glock 21 I bought the night before was broken. I told them I wasn’t an expert but I was confident I knew what broke looked like.
It was sent for repair 3 times and I never was able to squeeze the trigger. Load the magazine and everything would fall out on the ground. They gave me my money back. And I bought a Sig.

but were the prices good? I don't care what lies he's telling or what smoke he's blowing if the prices are good.

Good call on the Sig.

I suspect I'll hear less dumb stuff as I found out when picking up my CZ P07 that the one employee I didn't care for finally quit. I told the owner I was surprised he kept him there as long as he did.

Yeah I left PSA bluffton mad one day over that.
Me: its not a pistol it has a buttstock
Them. No dice its not a rifle and you live in NC.
Me: im also buying an upper...
them: if we put them together we manufactured a rifle and we dont have a license for that.
Me: ... it literally has your logo on it. You made it.
Them: *shrug*
Me: hand em here ill do it.
Them: bye now.

Yep, same reason you also have to be 21 to buy one from a dealer...because it’s not a long gun.

A lot of people think the law is you just can’t buy a pistol out-of-state. But it’s really that you can only by a long gun. That pushes the “other firearm” category over to be grouped with handguns instead of grouped with long guns.

Was looking for ammo at WM today. None to be seen in the locked glass case. But there were 2 or 3 rifles horizontally on shelves. Between me and the case were three guys loudly debating Trump vs Biden. I excused myself and asked whether I could get closer to have a look (in other words, could ya get outta my way). One of the “gentlemen“ asked what I wanted to see. I pointed and he said “That’s a 30-06 bolt action”.

When he finally moved out of the way, I could see it was a lever air gun. 😂
