apparently they do an “extra side Wednesday”, so you got two instead of one…

A new favorite place for me is Shug's Steakhouse in Hartsville, SC.

We went there last night to celebrate my daughter's birthday and I have to say that my ribeye was probably one of the best steakhouse steaks I've had in years. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly.

I know this is out of the way for a good number of forum members, but if you're in the area and looking for a good steak, I say give it a try.

Oh, and I swear the wait staff had to been a cheerleader squad just in from practice. Good Lord, the eye candy.

Ate at Kim's BBQ House or Kim's BBQ and Seafood today in Dunn.

Down home country. Everyone looked up when we walked in the door. I had the special "shrimp and fish" typical fried NC seafood and it was good. I had slaw and "snap beans" (haven't heard that in a while) as well as hush puppies and those were just ok. My tea never got 1.5" low... I will go back for the BBQ and see how good that is.

All in all I really liked the place, brought back memories from some of the places Granny took me as a kid. People standing up talking, visiting and catching up.

Decent food, decent price, friendly folks.

Try Jim’s Seafood in Dunn. Calabash style seafood. They make a run to the coast every day so I’m told so it’s fresh seafood.

Thanks. We talked about going to Skippers this week in Apex. I may try Jim's instead. Roughly the same distance from the house.

Saw Danny's in Cary was mentioned.
Quite a bit closer to my neck of woods is Redneck BBQ Lab..on 210 just off I40.
Pulled pork sammich with slaw is my go to and wife likes their brisket

However, wife's special sauce makes my pigs a crowd favorite 😁piggyisREADY.jpg

I’ve got two for you...

Moe‘s BBQ. Downtown Matthews!
Excellent BBQ with some of the best prices you can find.

This next one is a hidden gem...
Good Eats at Johns Place. It’s a food truck (but permanent). Located in Fort Mill just off exit 88.
Located on the patio area of Johns Place Bar at the KOA Campground/Exxon gas station.
Working class bar with good people that hangout there.

Homemade food. Generous portions. Great prices. DELICIOUS!!!
Good Eats is only open Tue-Saturday after 5 pm I believe.

If you live in the area you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

The Q Shack in Durham (2510 University Dr, Durham, NC 27707) has some of the best brisket and ribs I've had
Silver Hill Grill near Holden beach (2049 Holden Beach Rd SW, Supply, NC 28462) a trailer on the side of the road with amazing fried seafood
Allen & Son Barbeque between Chapel Hill and Hillsborough (6203 Millhouse Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27516) If you can figure out when they're open they do real pit cooked barbeque over hickory
Q shack? Beef isn't bbq. Go back to new jersey or where ever you came from

Moe's in Matthews is very good, but it's Alabama style. I feel like the portions are smaller than average.

College Bar-b-que in Salisbury.

I'm biased, because I worked there while in hi-skrule in the early/mid-'80's. I did eat there again while passing through in 2010 - on the way to & from Houston - and it's as good as I remembered. SOME day, I'll get back home, and eat there again.

Hap's Grill, too.

Haps is wonderful.
Hot dogs. Hamburgers. bagged chips.
THATS IT.
No seats.
They use a lot of crisco there. And it's delicious.

I'm guessing you can't read too well since nowhere did I say BBQ when mentioning Q Shack. Oh well.....
Get it right though… it’s called The Original Q Shack since the Q Shack name was sold to a crappy chain.

Slightly down the road is one of my favorite spots in all of Durham, Saltbox Seafood Shack. The owner is having to close the Foster Street location, and rumor has it he’ll be relocating that site to Boxyard RTP. Grab a meal at whichever location you can get to.

Tortugas Lie, Nags Head, OBX.
A must every single time.
Lunch, dinner, beers, whatever. Always a fav.

4 blocks away from Tortuga's is Biscuits N' Porn.
As good as it sounds.

Another hidden gem with great food...
DB’s Tavern
corner of Tom Short Road and Ardrey Kell road in the ballantyne area.
Freshly made food. Not typical frozen bar food. Family and I probably eat there twice a month. Not a bad thing on the menu and probably my favorite wings in town.

Kid friendly bar and restaurant.

Emerald Isle recommendations
Gaffers & Fish Hut Grill! Can't go wrong with either.

If you're rolling through Spartanburg try out Carolina BBQ it's been awhile since I've been but it's still great. They've added a cherwine based BBQ sauce that's really good on their smoked turkey sandwhich. Plus they've added in broasted chicken plates too. If you've never had broasted chicken it's delicious. It's breaded chicken that's been roasted in a preasure cooker with just a little oil so that the breading is super crispy but the chicken doesn't really soak up any oil.

Frying Pan at Southport.

Great view. My wife loves it.

I may have already mentioned Shirley's in Leland. I love their pork chops. It may be small and hard to find but can give you some good eats. It is back behind McDonalds.

The match is unlimited, shoot more!

We could head down to SP and eat at Frying Pan if ya'll want.

I gotta see what’s going on with this small human first.
We've had her on weekends, and it requires a tag team to keep her corralled.

I'll be at McD's at 7:00 am. We can eat wherever someone drives me, or wherever you direct me to drive, after the match. Ya'll know I ain't that picky.

I'll tell y'all what... I'm still shocked at the quality of Bistro 90 in Longs, SC right down the road from Conway. An amazing bourbon list, impressive wine list, all house aged prime beef, fresh seafood, and impeccable service..

I've not seen a better steak and seafood restaurant that I can recall...

Shame that Allen and Sons BBQ closed and out of business. The one near Pittsboro is still open but takeout only

I haven't seen this one mentioned I see alot of Seafood places but not many steakhouses I am a steak person tried alot of places for steak in NC.

Country Club Steakhouse Roxboro NC

Capital Grill North Hills Raleigh NC

Stonewall steakhouse Banner Elk in the Mnts NC

Speaking of North Hills, Coquette is fabulous. Atmosphere is nothing special, but the service and food prep was perfect. Seasonings and temperatures were exactly where they were supposed to be across the board.

Cucciolo Terrazza in North Hills... not so much. They must have ran out of salt when we visited. Little things like broken sauces, overcooked (falling apart) pasta, cold bread, and a lack of seasoning add up fast when it comes to ruining a meal.

The Sweet Onion, Waynesville, NC

I have had several great meals at Sweet Onions when on business trips to the mountains........afterwards for cheap entertainment you can always go to the Wal Mart in Waynesville for a real mountain circus freak show😉
