Lawrence BBQ at the Boxyard RTP:
This place is awesome. Been there twice and it's great. The Boxyard is interesting. Outdoor food court with little stage that often has live music. Several eateries and bars. Whole thing constructed of Connex boxes. Pretty cool.

Anybody been to Hillsborough BBQ?
Not sure if I ranted about this place. Last three times I've been there it absolutely sucked.

Took the wife to lunch at Southern Roots in Jamestown, NC. 2nd time I’ve been and it was fantastic both times. Supper once and lunch today. First time we went, it was last fall and semi cold. Everything inside was booked and an hour wait. 10-15 tables outside with heaters and a fireplace. We asked to pull a table next to the fireplace. It was perfect. Got the meatloaf the first time. Fantastic! Ordered the fried catfish, sweet potato fries and seared okra. Wife got some kind of salad with blueberries and added grilled salmon. Looked good. Mine was great. The twins at all my wife’s blueberries 😆. They split a grilled cheese. Shared a grilled shrimp appetizer with a couple sauce options. It was good but not $18 good. It was more than my catfish entree 🫤 but ehh it was our anniversary lunch so we splurged.

@Jeppo if you haven’t been, take the wife. You’ll like it. FF23807B-EA12-41FC-A89A-1A2544BB2827.jpegBF096448-B95E-4658-BC61-20033D3EAB9C.jpeg

Don’t know if this has been posted yet, but the best breakfast in Fayetteville is hands down Mary Bill’s Cafe by Eutaw Shopping Center

Heath’s Steakhouse in Dunn is awesome

Railroad Street Steakhouse in Roseboro is really good, too! Richard and Laura Barefoot run an excellent little bistro!!

I don’t know if it’s been posted here before, but a couple weeks ago I took my mom to Rivertown Bistro in Conway. I was impressed. The Cajun shrimp appetizer was fantastic.

My first impression upon entering was, “great, another place with photo-worthy dishes that I’ll leave lighter in the wallet and still hungry”. Not the case. Most entrees were in the $20 range, so not too awful steep but still affordable. It was a tad loud inside, and I don’t have “drinkin hearing” anymore. Comfortable seating and good atmosphere to go with really good food. On a side note, mom seemed to think it was owned by the same crowd as Bonfire on the river a few blocks away. Maybe, but if so there’s no comparison in food. Bistro was FAR better.

So,
The Social Q in Morehead City for carry out
The Smoke Pit in Salisbury and Concord
Nick's Burgers in Welcome
I'm sure I will think of many more but these are definitely worth the stop.

Went by Melvin's Burgers in Elizabethtown today. I haven't been there in over 10 years and I remember that they sucked then but I decided to give them another try. Well, they sucked even more today! A little piece of charred burger, lots of strong raw onions and a scraggly little bun. All for around $4.00. A plain McDonalds burger will run circles around that piece of 💩 they call a burger.

Took my wife to the crescent moon cafe in the old downtown section of hickory nc for her birthday yesterday.
They had vegetarian selections on the menu and my wife while not a vegetarian likes to try dishes like this , I don't ,but it was her birthday.
The food here was delicious she got a veggie flatbread while I got a chicken quesadilla .
This isn't the kind of food you expect from a hole in the wall cafe,
We were still talking about how good it was long after we left
They had at least 10 beers on tap , for the people who enjoy an adult beverage with their food
And the price for the food Was more than reasonable. 28.00 for two people
This place jumped to the top of our places to eat list

Rode out and saw @yard mongrel today, and was glad my son in law was okay with eating at Pineville Tavern.

My goose wings were awesome, and all my SIL could say was, "This is a good burger."

In my opinion, that was a compliment, because my SIL can cook.

Hate I didn't get to see you, @lowspeed, but I hope to visit your place more often.

I appreciate y'all coming by. I hate I wasn't there, but today was the first full day I've taken off in over a month. I hope you'll get to drop by more often with your impending retirement.

We ate at Yaba Mediterrianian Grill on Falls of Neuse in Raleigh today. Great food with fresh ingredients. Worth the stop. My wife's favorite. Best hummus and falafel I've had in the area.

Went to Newport/Morehead City over the weekend. Ate at Cox’s Family Restaurant for breakfast. Excellent food but what really impressed me was the staff. They were phenomenal.

Also ate at Kountry Kitchen. Food was good. Staff was so so

Um.. I’m glad someone brought this thread back around, as I may have missed it… and they would be a shame.. love all foods with country cooking ranking at the top. Nonetheless, I will drive across the state(s) for some excellent food. I will definitely read over this entire thread and then make my rounds…

One of my favorite is Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, NC. They are going through a renovation right now… but check it

They've been going through that renovation for a couple of years now. Meanwhile she's moved to Charleston, SC and opened a new place.

Yeah.. they were closed for the pandemic, then reopened for a short bit after, only to close again middle of this year to reinvent. In the interim, she opened a pizza place in Wilmington and the restaurant you mentioned in Charleston, SC and placed a grab n go gourmet vending machine of sorts at Kinston. I really hope the Kinston location does reopen as she mentioned… if not, I guess I’ll roll down to Charleston!

Hmmm...... So,,, nobody has mentioned Waffle House?
They never disappoint at 3am, when you have been out partying and have no idea where you are, who you are, or what you are ordering… why? Because no matter what you order it all taste the same, as every item gets a full paddle of flav-o-fry butter oil poured on the griddle to cook it or on it. Can never go wrong there! Imma smothered scattered covered and chunked kind of guy.. why hold back??!

A few other places I really enjoy…

Johnson’s Burgers - Siler City, NC - self explanatory

Georgia Deans in Williamston, NC - Awesome thick cut pork chops

Farmer and the Dail - Snow Hill, NC - holy smokes their biscuit bombs are really good and big enough to feed 2.8835 people. Excellent homemade desserts and their homemade ranch dressing is so good it could make a turd taste great!

Hen and the Hog - Halifax, NC - great food all around

The Spot Grill - Beaufort, NC - shrimp burgers, fish and the like… off the tourist path, where the local go.

I hate that The Ruddy Duck in Morehead City, NC closed… was a great place (fish and shrimp tacos were excellent)

There are plenty more… will add more later

If you are near Rutherfordton nc- Rutherfordton Thai is the best Thai food I have eaten. I have tasted the delights from Chank mi to Chang ri and the Rutherfordton Restaurant is a s good as any. The green curry soup is a good choice for your last meal!

Eggs Up Grill in Myrtle Grove (just north of Carolina Beach). Outstanding breakfast.
We go to the one in Holly Springs regularly and agree.

Fahrenheit in Fredericksburg VA
Friend took us there last night...was delish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's pricey as heck (for a poor like me) - my steak was 50, wifes pork chop was 30, our banana pudding was 10 etc
But, holy heck, was very tasty.
I didnt see the bill, my heart, likely, would have skipped a beat like that football player (four adults, three mixed drinks and a bottle of...something...like champagne but not.
Three deserts. Veal tomahawk. And a kids meal.
But everything was excellent!

Has anyone been to Mustang Charlie's Diner in Apex? It's inside the Crossroads Ford building. I saw something posted on Nextdoor the other day and all of the comments were positive, so I've added it to our list of places to visit. Who doesn't like all-day breakfast?

Had a church board dinner at Clark’s in Little River, SC a couple weeks back and man that place was awesome. Great service, great food, and great desserts. It’s on the higher side, but you can get similar food at its sister restaurant The Boundary House in Calabash, NC.

Crawford & Son in Raleigh. Dear heavens.

Mushroom salad appetizer was great. The mains (scallops and pork shank) were prepared to perfection. Pineapple upside down cake was the best I have ever had.

Amazing.
