I'm taking my mom to Martelle's today for "Mother's Day." Kind of, more or less. My wife is going to visit her mom this weekend, so that leaves me fending for myself, not that it is a problem. So, it's Martelle's for dinner (that'd be lunch for you less cultured folks from somewhere else).

It was all I hoped for!

So,
The Social Q in Morehead City for carry out
The Smoke Pit in Salisbury and Concord
Nick's Burgers in Welcome
I'm sure I will think of many more but these are definitely worth the stop.
Forgot Dario locations in the Winston Salem/ triad area for upscale fast food, and I personally believe they have one of the best hot dogs around. They also have hand dipped ice creams Just a recommendation for any passing through that didn't want a lengthy sit down meal.

They started up near Rural Hall, and now expanded all over the Triad.
Good food!

On the Square. Downtown Tarboro.

Absolutely fantastic. Great atmosphere, service, music, and food.

@fieldgrade

Ever ridden to this place?

I used to take the exchange students over there. Those kids would trip out over the bluegrass band and dancing.

Hadn't thought about that place for 20 some odd years, and haven't darkened the door since I was in college. Might be time to go back.

For a small town, we have a lot of food trucks. Actually, there seem to be a lot of food trucks all over Texas. In our town, one stands out over the rest, Mr Burger.
His hamburger is huge, gotta be a half pound, meal for 2. Joanne can't get enough of his catfish and I think he has the best wings anywhere. His wings are just as good as the Vortex wings that I make at home.

Lighthouse Grill, Mamers, NC on Old 421. Between Lillington and Broadway, the “back way”.
See that AC unit on stilts back behind my bike? It will run you out of there even on a hot day like today. Wonderful.
...a little tenderloin with my bacon.

This post will be my preferred pizza places to ping on your gps when trying to zero in on a good slice of za ;) *Kinda more NY style pizza

Seven lakes: mamma mia’s
Southern pines: sopies pizza(that’s “sopies”, not “soapies” for you marines and sailors! Calm down! Lol) - the pizza is delicious, don’t much care for the atmosphere and price though.
Spring lake: Brooklyn pizzeria
Chapel hill: village pizza and pasta(15-501)
Mebane: ciao pizza & Italian, and Junction on 70
Emerald Isle: Michaelangelos
If it still existed, I’d say credos in Jacksonville aswell

Aged Ribeye @ Hall's Chop House 434 King St. Charleston SC

Buffalo, Elk, Quail @ The Buckhorn Exchange 1000 Osage St Denver CO

I had a dry aged Ribeye from Hall's a few weeks ago. Three of us split oysters on the half shell and oysters Rockefeller for appetizers. Also split the Brussels, Collards and loaded mash potatoes. With drinks, it was the most expensive meal I have ever paid for per person. Fortunately is was for work so I expensed it. Best meal and service eating out I can remember in a long time and I eat out a lot.

Pricey but food is great and the service too....I consider it a notch above Shula's, Morton's and Ruth's Chris.... Dinner for three was just under $500 but that included two appetizers wine and tip....daughter gives me a Hall's gift certificate for Father's Day and Christmas...IMG_0391.jpg

I met up with @Shady Grady there and had lunch. Since youre part of the Chatham County group, maybe we should meet up at Paraíso in Siler City. I actually liked it better than Carbonero.

I will edit to add pictures in a minute

I finally got around to trying this place this week.

This restaurant is legitimately outstanding! Nice find!

I also thought it was better than El Carbonero.

Ate at Lambert's Cafe yesterday. Home of the throwed rolls.

If you say you left this place hungry, you're a liar.

Good food, and plenty of it.

We ate at Gia in Greensboro, NC tonight, for the first time and it was fantastic. @Lucky63 and his wife joined us, so good company made it that much better:

We ordered the wild boar sliders, pork belly, and bbq octopus tentacles for appetizers, which pretty much became the main course. The pork belly was tender and had a great flavor, the boar sliders were served with fresh made sauerkraut and pickles, which added a tangy crunch to them, and the octopus tentacle was like a tender scallop with a slightly crunchy outside. They were going to be starting their fall menu soon so these items may not be available for much longer.

The chef came out and talked to us about what inspired these dishes which doesn’t happen at most restaurants. There was a huge variety of cocktails and wine, and shorter list of beer.

We also ordered the bbq chicken plate and the margherita flatbread. This is a European style restaurant so most dishes were designed to be shared. We also shared some frites with truffle butter that were phenomenal. There really wasn’t a bad dish that we had. Would definitely recommend it if you are out this way.

We had a little road trip today. Went to Spring Hope to the home of @tanstaafl72555 . Stopped at an antique store there in town and then stopped in Zebulon on the way home and ate at McLeans Ole Time Cafe. Cracker Barrel style food. Not bad. I had country fried steak. The fried okra I got with it was delicious.

@Chdamn's Wife

They must really know their craft, then, to get the octopus tentacles tender! It's very easy to over do them and end up with chewy rubber bands.

I looked them up online when @Chdamn posted about it in another thread and their menu looks impressive. Impressive because they're obviously focusing on a few done very well instead of a large number of selections.

Just wish it were a bit closer to home...or work!

Completely agree. Sometimes less is more.

We go out so seldom that I forgot to rec them (u did ask about Spring Hope, though... slim pickings here).

McLeans was the first restaurant we went out to with my daughter and fam when we moved over this way. The food is actually pretty good, imo. Glad you had a good time, and of course I am indebted to you beyond words. It was so nice seeing you. God will have to repay you for your kindness. I cannot.

Mezcalito in Apex is very good with pretty good service. Great fries and I love the marinade they use for their steak fajitas.

Mexican/American place with more authentic flavor.

A big shout out to Chihuahua Floyd for a great recommendation of a place to eat in Bryson City, Pasqualino’s. Our food was great, service was great even though the place was packed.

We just went there last weekend. We ate at Everett Street Diner. Amazing breakfast. The pumpkin pancakes were awesome

Well.... I'm sitting at CodFathers in North Charleston now.

Like an idiot, I got their World Famous Fish & Chips.

Holy cow, that 8-10 ounce fillet is a lot of fish!

The only way it could have been better would be if it came wrapped in newsprint and eaten in the cold, blustery, sideways rain of Scotland!

Been there and had the same positive experience......time to try it again!!

We went to Jon G’s BBQ in Peachland today. It was great. Was it wait 4 hours great, I don’t know. We got there at 10am and they were sold out of quite a bit by the time we got up to order. It was a fun atmosphere, we got there at 10am and everyone was hanging out in line drinking beer. One group brought a handle of vodka and making mixed drinks. We’ll go back after the first of the year and get in line a bit earlier. It we did buy enough BBQ that we’ll be eating on it tomorrow as well.

This thread is ME. Heck my work acquaintances ask me where to eat when they travel!

Gatlinburg-Chesapeakes
Murphy-Rib Country
Cherokee -All Fried Up (Shrimp and Grits)
Black Mountain -My Fathers Pizza (Roasted Chicken Sub WITH the oil/vinegar/herb drizzle!!!!)
Concord-Smoke Pit
Waynesville/Dillsboro/Franklin-Haywood Smokehouse

This is just off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of more.

I am sad to say that it appears the little ole Lighthouse Grill in Mamers NC is down for the count. They might get back up off the canvas, but I don’t know. I loved riding my bike down there for a big ole breakfast.

Went to Isle of Palms, SC near Charleston area over the weekend. Here are my recommendations for that area:

Acme Lowcountry Kitchen was probably my favorite for food, wait staff and quickness. They had five or six different versions of shrimp and grits. Wife got mahi and scallops and said it was really good. Five other couples that we know also went there and didn’t have anything bad to say.

Sea Biscuit Cafe for Breakfast/ Brunch. Wife had an omelette. I had blueberry walnut French toast with fruit that was really good

Cachitas Kitchen for late lunch/early supper. We were about the only ones in there around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Wife got fish tacos and I had a fried sushi roll. That thing was amazing!

IMG_3398.jpeg

For a really quick but awesome lunch check out Isle of Palms Marina. There’s a kitchen in the back that some locals told us about. Chicken salad and buffalo chicken wrap and fries were delicious.

Last is The Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan’s Island. Ice cream was really good. They call it gelato🤔. We both ordered a personal pizza each and it was almost too much to eat.

Oh and we did go to 39 Rue de Jean for supper. Food was ok but the staff? If being waited on by a dude with big boobs and wearing a dress is your thing then I guess you may want to go.

As it was my first time to Charleston. Make sure to carry if you go out after night. I don’t care to go back but I’m sure my wife will one day. It’ll be a daytime thing if we do. I’m not a fan of constantly looking over my shoulder and then the aroma of weed around every corner

If you like that, there’s a place in Winston called Chopstix. They have several different versions of fried sushi. They are all good.
Harris Teeter also has it on their prepped table.

Huh! My daughter and I must have missed this guy!

Didn't see anything like that at all when we ate there. And our waitress was an attractive young lady.

At least...she LOOKED like an attractive young lady, any way!
