@Geezer , today RS and I went to Florence to go to Cains.
Chicken Bog, Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, Meat Loaf, Ribs, BBQ and the best seasoned vegetables I've ever had "out". Noticed today the Butter Beans and Iron Clay Field Peas were seasoned with Okra. Didn't See any okra but the taste was there..delish. The best Hush Puppies on the Planet.
Please, let us know if you're going back that way and have time to spare. Only open on Thurs-Fri_Sat.

Dragon Sliders. Mmmmmmm.....Went to The Smoke Pit in Salisbury saturday. Had the burnt end sandwich and orka, All I can say is go hungry. We also had Brisket Ruben which looked great. Also locations in Concord Gastonia and Monroe
It's been a while since I ate there but it was good and the portions were big.Has anyone here eaten dinner at Lane's Seafood and Steak outside Angier, off 50 below McGees Crossroads?
I passed it yesterday while I was galavanting on my motor scooter and didn’t know about the place.
@Majicmike @Amp Mangum
not sure which one that is (I know there’s one in Mt Pleasant and at least one in the Charlotte/Indian Land area) but I’ve eaten several times at the one in the Charlotte area and it’s phenomenal!Bad Daddy’s. 10oz burger w/ buttermilk fried bacon. Tater tots. Yum-O!! BBQ sauce, chipotle ranch and some other kind of spicy ranch.

Better than Asahi on West Market in Greensboro?Didn't read the whole thread, so don't know how many of you enjoy sushi.
There's a place in Raleigh called Hako that has amazing fresh sushi. It's off of Glenwood Ave if you're familiar with the area.
Used to drive down there to eat at least once a week. Haven't been there in over a year...ex got it in the divorce....
Never tried Asahi.Better than Asahi on West Market in Greensboro?
I'm by no means a sushi expert. Not being a sushi connoisseur.... what's the difference between "amazing" sushi, and regular sushi?
Example, I eat and enjoy the sushi at any Asian buffet I go to. I can also pay more for sushi at a place like Wegmans, but can't tell you much of a difference, other than the lumpiness of the rice.
Are there leaps-and-bounds differences? If buffet sushi is like a McDonald's burger, is good sushi like a $40 steak?
Bring money. Now I really gotta try Asahi!
Is sushi 9 still there? I had a lovely meal there once, but its been a few years.Never tried Asahi.
I'll have to give it a shot and let you know.
I think it still is. At least according to their website. Last time I ate there was pre-fire closure. I guess they've rebuilt since then.Is sushi 9 still there? I had a lovely meal there once, but its been a few years.
Yes they do.Several of us went to The Salt Water Grill's Sunday buffet. Heard nothing but Southern compliments [ This is good]. As opposed to Yankee compliments [Not too bad].
Even when giving a compliment Yankees speak in the negative.
Have you tried Sake in High Point? Me and my wife go there every now and then. I think @Chdamn and @Chdamn's Wife came with us one time. We just don't go to that side of Greensboro much but I'll try to remember Asahi if we are there.I began enjoying sushi back when it was a rarity in the US. And, while I’m always ready for some”gas station sushi”, there’s a huge difference sitting at a sushi bar, before an experienced chef who has time to be involved in your meal.
Commodity outlets use a lot of frozen fish and the difference is immediately recognizable. They’re pumping out food to make as much as possible in the least amount of time, using as much of the fish as they can. When you’re before a serious sushi chef, he/she will be watching your reaction to the various offerings. If the chef notices that you understand and appreciate the creations, that’s when the magic begins.
While gas station sushi can be good, there is no cheap exceptional sushi. That stuff costs. My wife recently brought home a nice looking plate from Harris Teeter. Before even opening it, I could tell it was crap. The tuna was cut so thick it would be impossible to chew and was full of gristle. To make her happy, I tried one piece and immediately spit it back on the plate. When she took it back to the store manager (whom she knows), he took one look, apologized and opened the cash drawer.
I started going to Asahi’s predecessor more than 30 years ago. When Steve and Mickie opened Asahi, I was one of their first customers. I haven’t been there since Covid happened (not even sure they’re open). But, when I do go back, I’ll only have to sit down and nod at Steve...he’ll take it from there and I won’t be disappointed.
Sorry you asked?
It’s been many years. Not even sure it was the same name/ownership last time I tried it.Have you tried Sake in High Point? Me and my wife go there every now and then. Who’s the Uni lover?
The first time I tried it, it was dreadful. It took me years to screw up the courage to try again. When I did, I realized the first batch was spoiled. Now, I’m addicted. My brother in law. I could never get pass the consistency...
When my nephew turned 18 a few years ago, that is where he wanted to go and we went. Not my favorite place, but sushi is sushi. Sushi Thai in Cary. Nephew's birthday.
