Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

Went yesterday evening in the rain. @Lil D and my brother both caught nice fish. Love seeing Diana catch fish like that especially when I picked the bait that she was using and she told me it wouldn’t work 😉. That fish was 6lbs or better. Only thing I caught was a shell cracker, on a chatterbait. That little fish had balls

What are you targeting?
Whatever I can? I don't target fish so much as just enjoy fishing.

Edit: I'm mainly asking since I don't know what to fish for period this time of year down there.

Live shrimp are almost always a best bet if you can get them
otherwise live mullet (you can cast net them) are a go to any season

as for artificials (you will have to actively work them) my go to is gulp shrimp, followed by any paddle tail

reds, some trout, maybe flounder would be your target this time of year with the above ”bait”

otherwise you could target sheepshead near pilings but that a whole different animal

feel free to pm me your number I may be able to advise better with some more information

Thanks. The hotel has a sea wall to cast off of. The Google map picture looks like there is a sunken deck or something so I'm hoping to get some decent fishing in.

Bait suggestions for the intercoastal waterway around Morehead City this time of year?
Right now we're on the tail end of the sea mullet run with the fish around for maybe another week or two. Pick up a couple "Sams Gitter rigs" and tip with a piece of a shrimp (basically a double rig with 1/8th oz jig heads and bucktail). I like about 1/3 of a shrimp. We caught several mullet on Sunday before heading back. Just off the beach the spanish macs, bonito, and false Albacores are here. The bonitos will leave in the next week as the water warms. Inshore there are still some specks, look for docks with lights or fish cleaning tables that get used. Hard baits like MR17s, 18s. Black drum are still here on double bottom rigs tipped with shrimp. Red drum are hit and miss. The big schools of reds are still offshore and about to move in from their wintering grounds. Early morning the red bite has been ok on top water. Pompano just showed up and they're big this year 1-3lb fish seem common so far. We have a few more weeks on these fish.

Hit up Ft Macon for beach fishing. You can try around the jetty if you want to walk about 1/2 mile from the parking lot. There's black drum around the jetty and usually reds to the right side (non inlet side).

My two bait shops are Sportsmans Wholesale on hwy 24 for equipment/rigs and Chasing Tails for fishing reports and advice

If I'm fishing any type of double bottom rig, I've always got a piece of "fish bites" on there. Shrimp, crab, or sand flea are good. If the pinfish steal your shrimp, you always have a baited hook with the fish bites on there.

Thanks for the advice. Surf fishing whenever I wanted is the only thing I miss about living in Wilmington.

Ft Macon was packed this weekend from what I saw. The water was 65F so not too hot yet. This area is my main fishing home so just shoot me a PM if you have any more questions. Watch your speed on 70 in front of 70W Marina. The MHC cops are nuts on speeders there.

Don't forget to hit up EL's for a shrimp burger or head to Indian Beach to Big Oak drive in for shrimp burger or good BBQ (closed Mondays). Yellow Fin pub next to the Sanitary is a good well-rounded menu, I like the buffalo shrimp wrap. Snappers is good.

I'm getting ready now. We're headed to Portsmouth next Thursday for a couple days of fishing and camping.

Well…. Late to the party getting these added.pics from 4/20, Mom’s birthday fishing trip…

Wish it was more impressive, but based on NC creel limits (3 bluefish person/day and 1 gray trout person/day), we kept as many as we could… because we eat them! For reference… the cutting board is approximately 18”x22”

With that said…from a catching fish perspective… it was a great time as the bite was insane. After catching our bag limits, switched over to single hook jigs and two drop rigs w shrimp.. landed around 70 bluefish and around 45 gray trout. Luckily the pinfish had not arrived yet! Mom had a great time and that’s what really matter.

Also a pic is a bluefish tail bite. When they get into feeding frenzies they eat everything in site… including their own (we have actually caught them using strips of white hand towels on hooks, no need to waste bait, when they are hitting like that). Had several hit the deck like that.

I burned out again at work and I took a few days off which is rare and I decided to come to Portsmouth island to surf fish and get away from folks. Well its blowing harder than Monica did currently and looking at 1-2" of rain tonight. Tent camping might not have been a good idea. Trying to destress but hopefully I'm not going to float off. I did manage a 29" drum. Also, Wilson sends his regards. I had fun making him the other night to blow off steam after packing.

I took a friend and his son fishing in the family pond. They caught lots of small to medium bream, crappie, and bass.

The pond is overstocked, if that's the correct term, so it seems the fish, especially the bass, aren't getting any real size to them.

Regardless, we had fun!

This was the last fish of the day. Tell me what you think it is.

Looks like a shell cracker that laid in an oil slick.

I’d say spawning shell cracker.

Kinda reminds me of a warmouth sunfish.

a warmouth has the top jaw bone come to the middle of the eye, like a smallmouth bass.

I think it's CatFish bait.

This was the haul. We threw at least this many back.

I did sneak some of the smaller ones into the cooler because the pond owner wants more fish out.
