the captain should not have told Alexa to steer the ship. just saying.
So, like power is required to record to black box?
They are. Or likely will be. Doesn't mean the taxpayer won't get screwed because of it though.Secondly shouldn’t the ship company and their insurance be on the hook for this and not the taxpayers?
Taxpayers don't have lobbyists, insurance companies and ship owners do. It's not like your votes actually mean anything any more.Secondly shouldn’t the ship company and their insurance be on the hook for this and not the taxpayers? Just musing.
This just keeps getting better. The ship that crashed into the Baltimore bridge carried 764 tons of hazardous material, and some containers have been breached, NTSB says
NTSB chief Jennifer Homendy said her team saw a "sheen on the waterway" but aren't sure how much of the material may have entered the Patapsco River.www.businessinsider.com

Insurance companies would probably also want a very thorough investigation to ensure they are truly liable for the claim payment.Taxpayers don't have lobbyists, insurance companies and ship owners do. It's not like your votes actually mean anything any more.
You mean a more in depth forensic type above and beyond what the current administration has already most likely signed off on 🤔😳Insurance companies would probably also want a very thorough investigation to ensure they are truly liable for the claim payment.
it probably just caches in 3 minute blocks in volatile memory before storing to nonvolatile.
nothing to see here.
I have little doubt that several very brilliant parts of our government/military/intelligence services already have a very good idea of exactly what happened. The question is whether that will be made public in a credible way.You mean a more in depth forensic type above and beyond what the current administration has already most likely signed off on 🤔😳
A lot was covered about that in the article Chuckman posted upthread.Reports say tugs assisted earlier. Why isn't the SOP to assist until past bridge?
I steered ships like the Dali for 13 years. Entering and leaving a port is extremely challenging — here's what should have been done in Baltimore.
A former ship captain steering large vessels describes the complicated process of port entry and exit and what happens in an emergency.www.businessinsider.com
will have an emergency generator. This will start about 45 seconds after the ship's power has failed.
Yep, they use a rack system in multiple cargo holds to stow many more containers under the “deck”. Usually the heavier containers are stowed in the sub-deck racks while the lighter ones above … the center of gravity maintenance thing.I have a question about container ships, like the Dali.
Is there cargo in holds under the containers?
heard news blurb today of channels being opened for some ship traffic... and depth was "only" 14 feet.... Certainly would limit the size of the ship...
anyone know the draft of the Dalia or similar sized vessels? Interesting vid above... distinctive "accent"
Not anything official, but I read something about 45 feet.heard news blurb today of channels being opened for some ship traffic... and depth was "only" 14 feet.... Certainly would limit the size of the ship...

Dali:
984 feet long
157 feet wide
18 foot draft
I think ronn47 used feet instead of meters (18 meters would be right at 60 feet) … noway2 in meters is on to the typical ladened draft of 45 plus feet for the big boys. Not anything official, but I read something about 45 feet.
