Frog lube…I thought it was dead

I’m listening to new firearms podcast, and they are shilling frog lube. I thought they were dead, that it’s just veggie oil.
It's the only combined gun and personal lubricant bro!

Never been impressed with Frog Lube. First time I encountered it on a range it was around 30* and that stuff caused the shooter all kinds of problems with FTF and FTE.

That happens if you don't wipe of the excess. learned that the hard way.

I have only used Frog Lube a couple of times but we used a heat gun when applying it and I naver had a single issue with the stuff, it did make the slides of my G19 & G17 slick as gorilla snot and it shot well in all weather

After that encounter I never entertained the idea of using it. It very well could have been his application process that caused the problems.

Heat gun 🤔, think I have one of those laying around somewhere. Tell me more about how you applied it using the heat gun.

SEAL 1 was the original and I like it more.

The big impact to FrogLube was the Warranty void statement in the S&W M&P9 pistol manual.

Not sure if its still listed by name, but it was a impact.

John
Hmmm, never heard about that and I’ve been an M&P guy for a long time. I’ve also never read the manual 😂

That said, I’ve had great experience with Frog Lube on M&P slides, specifically restoring the light rust that can happen in the scales on the slide. Old hair dryer to heat up the part, apply frog lube, let cool, wipe off excess. It looks like new and last years.

However, I prefer plain old CLP or synthetic motor oil for my normal lubrication needs. The process for frog lube isn’t worth it to me.

We loved FL in the nuclear World because it came with No SDS sheet and did not need storage in a firebox.

Once we went to the M&P 0mm 2.0, the owners' or armors' manual made that statement. So goodbye, FL.

This was years ago so that they might have changed the words by now.

It’s been a while, but from what I recall you are supposed to apply the lube (we used the paste stuff) and then heat the steel and as the lube “melts” you rub it in and then once the gun cools, you wipe any excess off the surface, so basically you run the gun “dry” to the touch but when it heats up the embedded lube will heat up and keep things lubed.

I seem to recall that Frog Lube has a “minty” smell and when I stopped smelling the minty smell while shooting I knew it was time to do the whole process again.

I haven’t used FL in years, a buddy of mine swore by the stuff and kept it around, I’d treat my firearm using the heat gun process and then would add slp2000 EWL as needed.

My understanding is it’s similar to roller coaster grease. However, none of us should question it since it’s supposedly used by navy seals. Navy seals use it which means it’s excellent. Disregard the fact that it will completely gum up in the cold….that never happens to the navy seals. The gumming up issue only happens to gringos and forum members. Since navy seals use frog lube, shut up and buy a tub of it. Did I mention that seals use it?

So not sure how this forum is but on other forums everybody knows a navy seal and this is one of those replies howeverit is true. The maid of honor at my wedding is my wifes best friend and is married to a guy that joined the navy after 9/11 and was on seal team six within one year. Has been an assaulter since he joined and still is. He gives me advice on guns and accessories. He doesnt use frog lube. Motor oil is your friend. I used frog lube when it came out and all it does is gum up your gun.

I’m not sure if you’re being serious or not but You can’t possibly believe that is true…right??

Calling Don Shipley, come in Don Shipley!

Frog Lube..... Laughable at best.

A "miracle" lubricant made by a company that is not known in the industrial world as a lubricant business.

Their company website lists ZERO labritory lubricant tests on their product.
It appears they have done no tests such as:

• Viscosity and Shear testing
• Physical Property testing
• Oxidation and Corrosion testing
• Molecular testing
• Elastomer testing
• Coefficient of Friction testing

Real lubrication companies such as Lubriplate, Mobil 1, Lucas, and Major motor oil companies all publish test data on their products(s).

I tried Frog Lube once during some shooting in Arizona. Wintertime testing at high altitude
(+ 5,000 ft. elevation) with temps in the mid teens and lower 20's. It gelled like thick wheel bearing grease.
A couple of cans of brake cleaner and some brushing got rid of that crap pronto. I've used Lubriplate or Lucas ( sometimes motor oil ) since then with no issues in any temp. or weather condition.

I am not even gonna touch the one year SEAL making it to Dam Neck post with a 10ft pole, but as far as Frog Lube I have seen it gum up allot of guns, and the only negative review I have ever got on a gun forum was from agreeing to buy a pistol and showing up at the guys house and the Beretta 92FS was covered in it. The pistol felt like it had half dry maple syrup on it and dropping the slide was noticeably slowed. I said no thanks and he was good with it. Two days later he tried posting a negative review to which I replied, “your add did not mention the pistol was soaked in monkey jiz”….

I used to be a seal but 20 years of chick Fila had me bumped up to navy walrus.

Froglube sucks. Only thing that I have seen gum up a dao revolver so bad the hammer could take 10 seconds to fall

Its funny, back in 2014-15 I used the hell out of FL and never once had any issues with it.

I will say, nowadays, I am back to my WD-40 habits. LOL

John
WD-40 has it's place, if you understand how it works and it's used correctly. It's magic is the molecular cohesion that not only drives out moisture, but gives it a high ability to "creep". Sometimes, I use it more as a solvent/cleaner than a lube. It just doesn't have a high load factor.

My wife saved me from the Frog Lube craze a decade ago by buying me an industrial sized tube of TW25b. I'll pass on the remnants of that tube to my heirs.
My standard for years and yes it last forever because I use it sparingly. I learned high percentage alcohol (91% or better) is a key tool to use with it. Strip off other old lubes with the alcohol before applying TW-25b. This allows metal contact with the lube. Otherwise, there may be interaction with old lubes. I experienced this once. Also, mixing TW-25 with alcohol will allow you to aerosol it if needed.
