Welcome. Years ago, I worked with several guys from SA. It was one of the biggest growing markets in casinos and gaming ( our market). unlike my coworker friend, I never got to visit, but I understand it’s a beautiful county.

Welcome to CFF enjoy the forum

Welcome from WNC

Welcome, we're happy to have you with us.

Hi!
I'm originally from South Africa and immigrated to Charlotte NC 5 years ago and love it.
I love shooting and backpack hunting. I hunt as much as I can, local and out west. Spot and stalk.
I have a handful of guns and continue to build my collection.
Looking forward to connecting.
First, welcome.
Secondly, I'd love to hear what pulled you to USA, or, better yet, PUSHED you from SA.
Im curious if things are as bad as we hear they are in regards to violence and crime

Welcome to the forum AND to the USA! It's exciting to hear about people moving here from other countries.

My wife was born in SA. Her parents were Christian missionaries, in Zimbabwe. They had to go to SA to find a real hospital for the birth. My mother in law says that she had a doctor in Zimbabwe who did her check ups while she was pregnant, but he didn't even have a real stethoscope. Instead, he would place a silver cup on her belly and put his ear to the cup to "hear the baby's heartbeat". The doctor, in SA, told her that was ridiculous; there was no way he'd be able to hear the baby's heartbeat through a silver cup.

Also, my next door neighbor (half a mile away) is from Senegal. He's a great guy. He comes from money. I believe he has dual citizenship in France and Senegal. Not sure if he renounced them and became a US citizen, or not, but he owns several real estate properties in the US.

It's a small world!

Yup. Pretty bad, chances are that what you’ve heard are true. Beautiful country. Crazy violent and filled with crime.
Not a safe place to raise a family. Guns are nearly outlawed and lawlessness reigns.
Great holiday destination if you like the finer things, food, wine, safari, hunting.

That’s great. It’s a small world. I lived in Zim for some time, went to boarding school there. Beautiful place.

You wanted a second go at watching a country fall to communist terrorism, see the people who built everything excoriated and see the thieves running things?

I'll ask a very forward question - are you white?
If so, did you experience any hostility due to your ethnicity?

yes white, lol, and hostility is measured based on personal exposure and tolerance level I guess. There were some pretty gnarly things that I've been through, not all influenced or directly due to my ethnicity. I didn't get to ask the question "did you do this to me or target me because of my race?".
I don't really like to dwell in the past and much of the crime and violence doesn't translate in the US (thank God). I am pretty vigilant from overexposure in SA.
