The problem with all this bravado is the stark reality that the government, and the political parties controlling it, is long-term. Politicians come and go. People come and go. But the government and political parties? They just go on and on and on.
Name an effective organization, hell even an ineffective organization, that has been around as long as the government and both major political parties and for which the just interests of the people are at it's heart.
The problem with such organizations is, ironically, people themselves. Put people into positions of power and authority and watch what happens over time as such groups grow in size and power. What you ALWAYS end up with are groups like governments and political parties. Always.
Four hundred million privately owned guns? Pfft. Peanuts. Inconsequential against the lumbering juggernaut that is the government and political parties. Organizations which don't measure time like you and I do. Like the average citizen. Like most other organizations the average citizen gets together. Governments and political parties measure time in decades, generations, and centuries. They have the long look.
Think they don't? How do you think they have managed turn the unwillingly enslaved into the willingly enslaved in the last 150+ years? Or, more recently, how do you think they managed to convince so many people that the path to political/social/economic/environmental nirvana lies in the direction of WILLINGLY taxing the lower and middle income class into oblivion, WILLINGLY spending trillions more we don't have, and WILLINGLY pricing goods/services/property out of the reach of the common man? All that while making these people believe they actually OWE it to such organizations?
They have done, and are continuing to do, this precisely because they take the long view.
Four hundred million guns. And now much of the population EACH GENERATION has their views/beliefs shifted away from those precious rights we hold so dearly into the realm of "privileges" which are only guiltily enjoyed under the guise of "white privilege" or "entitlement at the expense of the underprivileged"? That these rights somehow cannot be applied to ALL the people?
WHERE are the Liberal bastions in this country? They inherently reside in large population centers by their very nature.
News flash: 82% of the population resides in cities and their suburbs. Take a good, hard look at the red and blue map and see what that REALLY means. There's a reason why those smaller blue areas win so many elections. Why the rallying call for Liberals is much easier for them in these areas. Those in power know this and they not only work to those strengths, they work to establish the long-term conditions required to enhance this.
"But, but, but...people will NEVER ALLOW..."
Horse pucky. THEY ALREADY ARE ALLOWING IT.
And these guns? Oh, what a double-edged sword THEY are!
Use them and guess what? You'll find out how large and organized these entities are in both tactics, strategy, and time.
Fail to completely upset those in power and guess what? Now you're suddenly the "bad guys" and you'll be on the receiving end of new laws and actions designed to curb you even more.
Succeed in completely upsetting those in power and guess what? You'll just be replacing those organizations with new organizations which are EXACTLY LIKE THE OLD ONES...if not worse.
That's HISTORY.
You will NEVER see the birth of another nation like ours again. The world is too different, too populous, too connected for the required conditions to arise again.
SO QUIT DELUDING YOURSELF WITH SMALL-TOWN PROCLAIMATIONS OF BRAVADO.
The price of liberty is eternal vigilance. You want to fight this, you have to get into the works themselves and gum things up. You have to realize that the long term is where this is at and start acting that way. You've got to be involved. You've got to make sure the political pendulum ALWAYS sways back and forth, because as history has shown us time and again, if it stops in mid-swing too long, BAD THINGS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO THE PEOPLE.
