Gun store that wont sell gun

Update
I was wrong to be upset at employee. There business model is unlike any other firearm dealer that I have heard of. Each store is set up with shipping capabilities. But will not sell a firearm in stock but not online and ship it. I do not see the benefit of this.
<snip>
But my friend did walk in, did find a firearm that I wanted, and store would have made a sale. If he would have bought it for himself, they would have packed it up and shipped to his FFL. So the only thing lacking was me not walking in their store.
After reading the first bolded part, I was thinking they aren’t physically shipping it, they’re drop shipping from their distributor.
However, the 2nd bolded part kills that theory. If both accounts are accurate, I don’t understand their decision either.

Good luck in your search for that elusive 45-70!

So the obvious question: What was THEIR explanation on why they did not want to make the deal?

Fuquay Gun and Gold in NC have their store and are also on Gunbroker, both have separate inventory, you can buy on the GB site, and pick it up at their store where all FFL rules followed.

I learned this about them last year. Saw one of their items on Gun Broker and thought hey I can save some money on credit card and shipping fees by going in the store, and...... I was wrong. All their internet sales items are held at their warehouse and must be purchased online. Then you can arrange to pick it up in-store a few days later.

if your friend saw them, have him buy one for you as an early birthday present.
then later, for no apparent reason, give him a gift of cash or goods/services of an equivalent value to the cash you would give him
That's a straw purchaaaaaaaaassssssse!!!

Yep. Know of one that won’t an hour before closing!!
I walked into midsouth a few minutes before closing and they gave me a screaming deal just so they could get out on time. I'm gonna assume they did all the paperwork right and didn't just clip the gun's ID tag to the clipboard with my signed 4473 so they could do their part the next day...
I'm sure they wouldn't do that.

I understand but that wasn't the issue. Their business model is strange to me. I have bought guns from Florida to New Jersey and west to Texas and never ran into this. But it is their rodeo!
I went into their main retail store a few years ago when S&W had the big rebate on the Shield and this company had the cheapest price by far anywhere. They wouldn’t sell me at the advertised price over the counter. The cheap price was online only and I was told they could sell that cheap in the store and pay someone’s salary to process the deal. I guess online orders process themselves, print labels and pack guns up without employee involvement. Ironically I walked into their satellite store and bought 3 over the counter at the cheap price with no hesitation.

Wierd, I get transfers from PSA almost every week for customers.

PSA’s business model is built on internet sales that require shipping. They are an online dealer. They have a separate division that has brick and mortar stores, but their bread and butter is online sales, like Bud’s and a host of other online dealers. Plenty of smaller shops don’t want to mess with shipping.

I see a lot of mentions of PSA. OP said Palmetto Arms. I do find that as an existing business, but quick search didn’t show one in Greenville.

@Bullseye Baldee - care to clarify exactly which business it was?

I agree with BigWaylon--this thread is kicking a lot of dirt around about a "store" and I'm not sure what "store" it is. Before we pile it too deep, can the OP be so kind as to clarify the actual name of where you called?

Oh, so it is a PSA brick and mortar store, then. All this time, I thought you were talking about some Mom and Pops shop called Palmetto Arms.

PSA’s policies are pretty rigid, whether you are dealing with their online arm or their box store arm. I’m not surprised by your experience.

I went in there yesterday, mostly to take a picture of the 45-70 to break balls, but they told me they did not have one. When I spoke to them about mail order I was told they are so busy in the store that they are not able to keep track of mailing orders out! The person explained that there are so many guns coming and going each day, and I believe management is concerned with mistakes being made. They should dedicate 1 person who knows the paperwork solid as a mail order person.

I just tried to get Sportsman Warehouse to ship a rifle to my FFL. They wouldn’t due to the FFL was in a 50 miles range to there store. They would ship over 50 miles. They have online ordering . I called customer service. They told me this. I got off my ass and drove to Greensboro and got it. 35-40 miles from me. It’s all good. Bigger things to worry about. Wardawg

Now you have to drive over 100 miles for ammo 😁

They also won't ship to an FFL who doesn't have an "approved" storefront. Ask me how I know....

Have to ask. What is approved

One that meets their standards for a stand alone business. For instance, no home based FFLs.

My neighbor wanted to order a gun from them, so I signed up to be a transfer dealer. Took them three weeks to tell me "no."

I’ve had PSA ship to a “home based” FDL as recently as 30 days ago. Signed the 4473 literally at the kitchen table.
