If so, you’re gonna be fishing stuff out of the pool after this weekend.

In July 2016, I grew tired of annually replacing my cheap Home Depot or WalMart leaf rake (the basket thing that attaches to a pool pole). So, I gambled $47 on one that claimed to have a lifetime warranty. No matter how well these are made, there’s just no chance they can last forever. At the least, the nylon basket will eventually become punctured.

After 6 seasons of use, there were some small holes in the net but I kept using it. Recently, the plastic cladding that covers the aluminum frame began to crack and fall into the pool. For sure leaving it under the sun wasn’t the way to preserve this product.

Almost as a joke, I sent an email to the seller, explained that the rake was finally unusable and included a copy of the original Amazon invoice. That was Friday at 5:37PM. Less than 4 hours later, I received a response thanking me for the claim, confirming that I had provided all the necessary information and advising that a replacement had been ordered.

All that was last Friday evening. Today, a brand new rake arrived. What more can one hope for?

I do not miss cleaning a pool. I do not miss the pool either. But I would love to see my grandkids enjoying it and dripping water all over my hardwood floors. If you use it then it’s worth the hassle. But my kids swam at places other kids were at. It did not make me happy. About $15k got the former houses pool, concrete, and fencing. $40k is the price now.

I think of putting a pool in at my parents house. Unfortunately, there is no real convenient place in the back of the house to do it. I could move the propane line and probably make it work if I wanted to. The other option is to put it somewhere else on the property, but then it wouldn't get as much use and be harder to maintain.

I did manage a pool and do the maintenance on it for a few years at a hotel in high school / college, so I am familiar with the work.

I also love to swim and will do so any chance I get.

I love a pool, but there is some work involved!! If you maintain the pool yourself, the first year or so is the most difficult because you are learning, but once you get the hang of it, no biggie. The robot pool cleaners are awesome and take care of the most time consuming work.

It's OK to leave nets/rakes and such out in the sun during pool season, but store them in a building the rest of the time. If left in the sun, some nets and the brushes on the vac heads might only last 2 years or so.

If you are going to entertain....... the only way to go is with a bath house. Keep everyone's wet feet out of the main house. It also looks better, keeps the pump/filter out of the weather and gives storage for chemicals, pool floats, etc.

That's a great warranty!

A Dolphin robotic pool cleaner and a mesh pool cover. Two best investments I made for our inground pool. The Dolphin has saves me hundreds of hours of vacuming, and the mesh pool cover screens out leaves and other debris, and lets the rain drain thru.
What mesh cover did you choose, and would you get that one again?

Got it from Doheny's Pool Supply, a mail order catalogue I get. I bought it last Spring to replace one just like it that was 8 or 10 years old (maybe older) and showing quite a bit of wear. Comes with everything you need, cover, anchors that will work for either concrete or wood decks, spring loaded attachments to the anchors. They stretch the cover tight across the pool, like a trampoline. Keep leaves, etc out and rain water drains right thru. I have a 16 x 32 inground vinyl liner pool, so I ordered the 18 x 34 cover. The name on the cover is GLI Pool Products, 1 800 448 2343. Hope this helps.

Thx! That’s the size we should have as well

Best 2 days all year, the day you uncover the pool, and the day you cover it! Jac swims in it some, but I’ve been in it twice this year. I added an outdoor kitchen and sitting area and use them quite a bit. I want to add a fireplace to extend the use for Fall and early Winter.

I love pools. No, not quite right. I love other people's pools. We have a 24' above ground, we've had it 3 years. Every year I learn something new about maintenance and service. Can't wait to not have it.
