How did your preps work out??

Didn’t need to use anything, but it did occur to me that I need to come up with some sort of rain cover for the generator should I need to use it.
There is a company called GenTent I think that makes some interesting looking stuff for anyone not wanting to make their own.

About a week or so too early to tell but so far so good, kinda. Definitely have a list of things. Will report fully sometime when we arent an island.
Best prepper in my neck of the woods, a LtCo. Ret. buddy of mine went out by CG heli because of flood. Location, location, location.

Time will tell but i think a bigger boat might be what we needed the most. So many "friends" around me are so unprepared for the long haul my preps will end up being a liability.

I forgot to buy some coffee. Forgot Thursday that I was out when I was in the store. Realized it too late Friday morning after I filled the pot with water. I’m struggling bad. Settling for tea. I’d pay an outrageous 20 bucks for a good cup right now. Other than bread, I had no reason to go to the grocery store. Been without power since the early am Friday. Haven’t even touched the long term, MRE, and canned stuff much, still been eating out the freezer / fridge due to the generator. Per good policy, eat the stuff that you can’t preserve long term first.

Making tea right now as I type on the propane burner in the garage.

Hate to hear this. Would mailing you some coffee did any good?

One thing I forgot to buy was Stabil. Went to 3 stores yesterday looking for some. Walmart and Advance Auto were sold out. Found a bottle at O'Reilly's. Not a big deal for half of the gas I have as it contains ethanol and I will put it in vehicles. Needed it more for the ethanol free gas I use in generators and other small engines that won't be getting much use in the coming months (lawnmowers, weedeater, etc).

We got lucky in north Raleigh. I went for a nice run on Saturday during a break in the rain. Cooked a couple deer steaks in a cast iron skillet. We were on the extreme outer edge of the hurricane. I'd be surprised if we got 4" of rain during the entire thing.

I ran out of tobacco. Other than that everything went smoothly. Thankfully we only caught a little bit of the outer band.

No problems in N. Raleigh, with the new homes going in in Del Webb and on the farmland,
Duke did major substation expansion and lots of trimming for the past two years.
But all it takes is just one branch to take out the power line.
My coworker has a sister in Washington, she has over 4' water inside the first floor.
Glad everyone on CFF is safe for now.

Direct hit, wicked
8 days w/out power
Yamaha and a smallish diesel generator
Take aways as essential
Fuel (duh)
Siphon hose to get fuel from vehicles
Propane burner, runs on tiny camping tanks
Re-chargeable fenix uc35 was bought for daily use, turned out to be awesome
Gorilla tape
Paracord and other rope/lines
Used a small fixed blade knife often
Led low draw bulbs for use while running generator
Chain/lock to lock fuel up/together to prevent theft (fuel was a major commodity)
Helmet/goggles to go outside
Biggest surprise need rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, k iodine all for wound care
I got so beat up with cuts and scrapes before/during/after storm unbelievable
Major nasty dirt/mud/rancid water if I didn't immediately treat and clean I'm sure I'd have gotten major infections
Also dental floss got food stuck in teeth....could have gotten infected if I couldn't remove

Late to the thread here. Got hit pretty hard in Wilmington. No damage to my place but trees were down everywhere. Needed both gennys since one developed problems. Was without power for 6 days and cable/internet for 10 days. Gas was in short supply due to using the big genny. Took 15 gallons every 24 hours. Need to get the genny hooked into the breaker box to eliminate the extension cord madness. Need more gas cans and some illegal spouts to put on them. Filling the genny with fuel sucks with the gov approved anti spill spout. Parts for the genny were not handy and hard to find at 11pm in the dark. They will be in an ammo can attached to the genny from here on out. Picked up spare receptacle for the genny for 110 volt outlet. One of them went bad. Also picked up the correct plug ends to utilize 100 at 30 amps and 240 at 50 amps so I can use all the capability of the big genny.
