If you sleep with your shoes in will that keep the power on?Just got my shoes on to get the coolers...

Constant heavy rain right now, but we still have power.
The biggest issue at the moment is the septic system is useless.
I want to get back home. I don’t know when the roads will be opened up again. I can only get to about 40 miles away from either NC roads or SC roads from what google maps is telling me. I call my dad everyday checking on him. He’s run out of gas for his generator...and it was acting up right before it ran out. He thinks he needs a new carb. My in laws have trees down everywhere. I want to get home to help cleanup and get life back to normal.
I did buy a Stihl MS271 Farm Boss while I’m up here. Figured I could cut anything in my way when I do go home, plus have a lot of cleanup to do. Also figured there would be a run on saws when I got back too.
Guess I just need reassurance that I did the right thing. Just sucks not being there protecting what you’ve worked your entire life for. I know it can be replaced. I’ve been texting @Johnny too making sure he’s ok. Just sucks being so far from home and my hands are tied. Just have to trust in the Lord.

Up until a few hours ago the municipal water plant was saying they were going to have to shut down in 48 hours due to critical fuel shortage, until they said they secured fuel an hour later. Scared the crap out of me for my family and everyone else down there.I want to get back home. I don’t know when the roads will be opened up again. So many things people take for granted, power, water, groceries at the grocery store. It takes a lot of infrastructure and it's not as robust as people think.A lot of folks don’t realize how much crap goes into our daily comfort
Supply chains are a fragile thing. Even right here in The Containment Area (Cary) our power never went out, no flooding, and yet the Food Lion near us hasn't had a truck in several days. Shelves are pretty empty from the panic buying last week.So many things people take for granted, power, water, groceries at the grocery store. How did the prison fair?Catastrophic flooding in Scotland co, got to be a record.
National guard and other counties sending high water rescue teams.
The average store has approximately 3 days stock of food under normal circumstances. NYC has 1 day. Every day New York City depletes it stock of food and every night, 10,000 trucks (real approximation) roll in and re-stock it.Supply chains are a fragile thing. The human factor is a big variable in systems continuity. Who comes to drive the trucks when the drivers neighborhoods have been leveled by a tornado and they have to take care of their families? Who opens the banks and gas stations when there is a flu epidemic and everyone is sick? The money is there, the gas is there, but there is no way to access it. (This happened in England a few years back.)
Send me a pm with phone number name and address and I'll swing by and check on him. Or google Ken's tree co for my business number. Politics over the rule of law.
The forgiven looting in Wilmington, that is.
Give it time till the complaints about "there's no stores left open in our neighborhood" begin.
You have no idea how much this pisses me off. Down East got hit hard as hell and is in shambles but there have been no legitimate reports of looting. The entire area has been ignored by the media and most of the major relief organizations.Pretty sure that's why some folks stay and ride out the storm....for fear of some thieving, no-good, POS miscreant(s) waltzing in and stealing what they've worked hard for.
Drop the first one and I'd bet the rest would scatter like a buncha cockroaches when the lights come on.
Watched the video...shame there wasn't an Eastern rattler or cottonmouth slithering round in there...they'd of shagged ass outta there, right through the brick wall like the Kool-Aid dude....but instead of hollering, "OH YEAH!!!" they'd of been screaming, "GOT DAMN!"
Maps.google.com is showing I95 closed starting at US 64 in Rocky Mount down to Dunn and then a lot of sporadic closures to Florence. It's also showing 40 closed as well as sections of other roads.Just saw that a previously closed section of I-95 in SC has been reopened. Still sections of I-95 in NC that are closed - I assume all the closed areas of I-95 are south of Rocky Mt, but does anyone have more info on this?
Fingers crossed roads will open and I can return to Wilmington.

Keep road updates coming.
My dad was telling me he heard people getting to Wilmington by way of 701 to 421. But I don't know... Google maps shows a lot of closed roads

I've been told they aren't letting people in or out if Wilmington....My nephew is trying to make it back to Wilmington now, something like 111 south to 24 east, after that I’m not sure what they are doing. He and my BIL mapped out some kind of strategy. If they make it I’ll pass along the route.
I’ve heard of some roads that are passable during low tide but not during high. Don’t know if that applies to their route.
Haven’t been too worried about studying maps, still without power. Came on last night for 4 hrs and went off again. Estimated to be out til midnight tonight. At least it was on long enough to cool the house off for sleeping.

I'm going to stay put for a few more days probably, since the Cape Fear river is suppose to crest today.
Please keep me updated though.
Thought I might be able to hit Myrtle Beach and head up 17...but it's got closures on it too.

Please post as I don't do FacebookMy nephew just made it back. The route he took was posted to Facebook by Annette Warner in the WECT communities section.
Not sure how FB works but I can text anyone a screenshot of the route if you can’t find it in FB. I’m having trouble uploading images or I would post it here.
I’ve heard 421 was flooded but that could easily change.
