A few weeks back I bought a Raven arms 25 acp from one of our nice members. Grabbed a box of ammo and headed off to Geezer day. Only thing I really expected was for it to shoot a little and jam just as much. It did not disappoint in either one. The problem I encountered was after the first shot and ejection the slide would not spring back into battery allowing my second shot. I Would have to push slide forward and then it would fire without further malfunction till magazine was empty. Not a big deal. Was tickled it shot and actually was quite accurate for a mini.
Got home and decided to try to fix the issue. Figured 1 of 2 things could be the problem. I took it apart looking to see if it was dirty. It was pretty clean (could tell the last owner did not neglect it) in the usual parts but when I took grips off I did see a little traces of old oil that was a tad sticky. Wasn’t enough to really be a big deal though. Second thing I wanted to look at was the two springs that operate it. One was a little bent but nothing crazy. Lightly lubed everything and started to put it back together.
Here is where I almost killed the Raven.
Important things you need to know: I am doing this outside at my patio table and I am not great at mechanical things. Behind one of the grips are two metal pieces that move back and forth along with the trigger and also a very small spring and some piece that sit inside under the slide. I put all these pieces back together and they all attach to each other and move when trigger is pulled. So I decide to pull the trigger just a wee bit. In that instant the spring on top launches the metal piece across the table hitting the chair 5 feet away. That I found but the very small spring that works the gun is gone... I looked everywhere for it and had given up in defeat. I had a small trash bag out there to put all the used gun patches and as I went to grab that I saw the spring was near the bottom. I put it all back together and thanked the gun Gods.
Got out today to see how she would do. Had one issue with her but think I figured out what the problem was. Because it’s a small gun I think the slide was hitting my hand a little and slowing it down just enough for it to slam back forward. I only shot maybe 35 rounds after that but had zero issues. Fun little gun to shoot and pretty accurate. This was about 10 yards, maybe a tad more.
