We have brightspeed internet service and they are terrible to deal with. They are neither bright or speedy lol. There is no cable or fiber near my house. What other good options might I have?

Try looking here for options

If decent cell service Verizon & T-Mobile have pretty good options but may not be any faster than cable.

The cell service internet boxes will heavily depend on how many towers are in your area. Internet service gets lowest priority in times of high demand. My house has 1 tower in the area and while I get 3-4 bars of 5G, T-Mobile internet was completely unusable at my house anytime I wanted to use it. It worked pretty well from about 2-3:30 am but slowed down to about dialup speeds during the day. I went back to Brightspeed, it was at least reliably slow. Can you say 3mbps max?

We had Charter... Spectrum... Spectrum Charter... whatever they are called this week for several years, paid extra for the 500mbps yet never consistently maintained anything above 200mbps.

We ditched them about two years ago after it took a week for them to figure out why we didn't have any service.

Went with T Mobiles WiFi home deal.... honestly, I'm impressed. While the speed isn't there, we get somewhere between 50-75mbps consistently, the stability of the connection is where it's at.

I have an ATT FirstNet hotspot for work and get blazing speeds, everywhere except at home.

I've played around with adding a 2x2 MIMO external antenna for it and a 4x4 MIMO for the T Mobile to see what happens, eventually I'll get around to it.

T-Mobile recently started selling the device with an external antenna but even the old ones can be connected to an external antenna with a little modification.

Wireless broadband through Verizon or T-Mobile or Starlink is probably the way forward.

You can download the Starlink app to see how the service would be in your area

If you have T Mobile coverage, their home hot spots are legit. They will literally tell you no if they are oversubscribed in your area.

Meaning they won’t sell you something they can’t deliver.

They sold me one, told me I had coverage, then when it wasn’t performing they told me about the prioritizing. I returned it inside the 15 day trial.

wtf. Weird. They are liars!

I know a handful of folks with starlink. They all rave about it.

Do you use them and if so how has your service been with them?
I have starlink and it works great. Much better than NoSpeed DSL. It’s not cheap, however. The equipment is about $600 and then if you want someone to install it, you’ll pay a few hundred for that too. You do need an unobstructed sky view to the SE I think it is, but mounting placement can impact that. We mounted it to the soffit of the roof and have an unobstructed view and can get upwards of 100mb plus.

Whats the monthly rates look like?

I have starlink and just cut off the brightspeed yesterday (kept it as back up till I had faith in starlink).

It does 95% of what I need. It will drop a few seconds here and there but so far done good in heavy rain storms.

But you need a clear view of the area it points too, and not like a tunnel view. I had to get mine up kind of high to keep trees from blocking it.

They just came out with a new system, don't know if it is better/ faster. If Ting ever runs fiber here I will jump on it.

not bad for a high speed mobile option, i could be working from the beach!
I’ve been on Zoom / Teams meetings and downloaded files sizing in tens of Mbs with no hiccup. The upload speeds are actually surprisingly good too.
