I want to know if anyone has already done this or know someone who has.
ALSO before I get started I have to say I know the dirt that is rubbed all over Hi Point. I just have fairly large & thick hands and do enjoy the size as well as the weight compared to many "larger" handguns I have fired. It has also been fairly kind to me considering the slander it gets. I believe the JHP45 is slightly acceptable compared to the hate which usually comes from the C9 if I'm not mistaken but I digress.
With medical bills, my project car, and school debt murdering me, I still wanted to go ahead and have some fun with new guns at a low cost. By accident (stupid thing to say I know) I ended up winning 2 Gen1 Hi Point JHP 45s through auction.
For the one I am working on, so far I have removed the mag "safety" because why would I not want to be able to fire my last round without the mag in. A high skilled bad guy could steal my mag and ruin my day. I also installed a short picatinny rail up top for potentially putting a red dot on, as well as being a better iron sight than the hideous stock one (sorry if you're one of the few that like them). The ghost sight Hi Point offers is actually quite nice, but I started to envision a black and red theme.
I am looking at JSARMSCO because they have an upgrade kit for a takedown screw which replaced the stupid sheet metal rollpin, stainless steel guide rod which replaces the stock plastic one, and a sear spring which reduces the trigger pull. They also offer a lower picatinny rail for a laser/light so I'm not forced to use the Hi Point laser which I find quite ugly and would prefer a strobe light for home defense, etc since this will probably not be an EDC for me.
There is also THING MEISTER FABRICATION who offers a 1911 magazine conversion kit which gives better feeding and eliminates that hideous battery pack Hi Point mag. They also offer a high grade aluminum trigger to replace the flimsy plastic one.
All in all, I have paid $85 for the gun, and with all the mods (including gun price) my total would be around 275. I know that price is relatively low considering it's also including the gun, but I'm more stuck on will those mods actually make it worth anything or should I just keep my $190 and give up on possibly making a decent Hi Point to be miraculously proud of.
