Received inside information on food shortages you wont believe

Reactions: Me.
I have noted for several months that many of the items that I regularly purchase have been "hit or miss". I have begun to check all aisles and purchase things not on my weekly list but, have not been available in a while. Most notably (for me), the canned soup and canned protein sections have been reduced by half in all my regular outlets and the few that I use are more than scarce. The variety of dried beans has been significantly reduced. Sure, there are bags of pintos but, field peas and lentil varieties are nearly non-existent.

@Miss Lily it really seems to be hit or miss and even store chain dependent. For example local FL had bo heavy cream, but my mother got a few containers at Lowe’s.

I didnt watch the video because I dont need some 'prepper' telling me 'insider information' which may or may not be true.

Ive see some empty sections here and there on my trips...but it's been SUPER rare. And typically it's the same brand at once, almost like that truck just didnt come in yet for the day/week. Not since the early days of COVID have I seen things in short supply.

Ive followed the prices of the things that I buy and seen very little shift in pricing. The things that I have seen go up in price have been the same price for over a year...things are bound to go up in price at some point. From 1.00 to 1.08 after over a year...eh, I can live with that.
And I have pictures of many of my receipts (for various coupon apps and such), so Im not pulling information out of my butt here to add to a prepper narrative - it's just not really went up all that much.
Except bacon. Dangit, bacon has went up quite a bit.

I’m not an economist nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn last night but, I did read an article ( and I can’t find it now) that between fuel, fertilizer, insurance and parts, that more small farms are going out of business now than since the Great Depression. Farmers are working their ass off and going in the hole. Many are calling it quits and selling the family farm to developers. Less farmers, less food. It makes sense.

Add in the droughts, especially in the west and Midwest that impacted the wheat harvest last year. With lots of other nations also about to experience shortages, the demand (price) will go up.

Then we have foreigners, like that Chinese general buying a huge farm and putting in an airport runway, and the biggest “farmer“ of the US: Bill Gates.

And I've heard from ommodity broker that many corn farmers aren't growing this year. The profits aren't there with roundup going for $18K a pallet. The radio mentioned yesterday German fuel prices jumped 50% this week.

I see quite a bit of shortages in my local stores, but the shortages still rotate among different items. Chicken has been the constant. There has been a limit of "buy 2" at all three stores I frequent for well over a year now. Cow milk comes and goes. There is always whole milk, but skim and 1% are iffy. Pasta and pasta sauce are always hit or miss. Convenience foods like spaghetti-Os, and microwavable lunches (things my kids take to school for lunch) are also spotty.

The bird flu is going to keep levels of poultry low, which will then mean more people buy beef and pork.

The cheaper stores are impacted the most. I find fewer shortages at Lowes that I do at Harris Teeter. Food Lion has the most empty shelves.

I've been hearing this week after week since about May 2020. Things are bad, no doubt, but I suspect the fearmongers are trying to make a buck off it.

The elites always make money off of any crisis. Doesn't make the crisis any less of a crisis for the rest of us.

I might have thought that if I hadn't been hearing the same sorts of info from a variety of different sources, both internet and locally, for the last few months.

There is no shortage of anything, just making it look that way to jack up profit .
Now, I’m not sure this is true.

The government fills the economy with billions of dollars. You can’t get people to work. The supply chains are diced up like a guy in horror movie. There is a ton of money chasing fewer products

Inflation.

Did I mention nobody wants to work.

So there are definitely shortages.

Are we all going to die. Someday. Just not today. I’ve got too much work to do.

Every time there has been a shortage of chicken Steve's in Graham has ways had great local chicken available and for cheaper a lot of times as well. Doesnt help anyone not in the Burlington area, but try out some local places around you.

24oz jar of pasta sauce used to be last month) 88 cents . 2 weeks ago it went to $1.28. Day before yesterday it was $1.40. That's the qalmart gv brand. Lidls brand was a few pennies off on prices but sequence very similar.

China has said their wheat production will be 20% off from Last year. Analysts have pegged that number at closer to 50%. Take Ukrainian production out of the picture (40 to 44 percent of European production) and Russian sales embargo to the west as response to sanctions and you will see a global wheat shortage. Other grains are likely to be similarly impacted.

Factor in sky high fuel, fertilizer, and weed/pesticide prices; many farmers are in the position of not being able to plant on the hope they can make enough back to cover costs.

You can't harvest what you don't plant, and planting season is upon us.

Things are going to get bad; especially in poorer areas.

With any type of information you need the ability to sort through the BS to pick out stuff that seems legit. Just like with reloading, consult three references to be safe. Now that I'm retired I have a lot of time to do just that. If I see something that peeks my interest I go find other sources that might lend credence.

There are some things now that can't be ignored.

I forgot to include that China has been telling their people to stock up on food now... started about 2 months ago iirc.

Shut a country down and this is what happens. Now who did that and why ?

Yea FJB screams to shut down russias oil pipeline to cripple there economy , same with us.
So we have government caused shortages but shortages none the less.

The government creates a problem, than tries to fix it by flooding the country with printed money, making the money worth less, causing inflation.

The government screws up everything.

What the big question is why are they doing it ?

That's one part of it. But part of the problem, too, is the global supply chain. We still have some issues from massive covid shutdowns 2 years ago. The US government can't be blamed for a factory that hasn't recovered in the Philippines. Inflation. Russia (makes a huge percentage of fertilizer, which has been hurt because of their war). Energy production issues. It all adds up.

I’m not dead as well as many others who believe the same so it’s far from dead.
We don't have the sense of common community with our neighbors and townspeople like they did. For that matter, we don't have it even like we did 40 years ago when I was a kid. How would this impact things if we had a food shortage? How many people would share what they have with their neighbors (whether that is wise, is another discussion). Or a more concrete example, if you knew that whatever passes for LE is coming to confiscate people's guns, would the community arm up and stop them, or would they make excuses?
