My daughter's JGC wouldn't crank yesterday.

Her husband bought a new AGM main battery and a new auxiliary battery (I didn't know these even existed). I didn't ask him why he bought both instead of just the main battery.

I'm not clear on the sequence of events, but somewhere along the way, a tool touched a terminal on the OLD aux battery and the NEW main battery.

After installing both new batteries, he was getting an "auto start/stop" error. He also toggled through the display and saw that he was only getting about 10.7 votes with the vehicle running.

He thinks he damaged the main battery and will need a new one to get the vehicle running properly.

Can you damage an AGM battery like that, or is it most likely that the battery just needs to be charged, like maybe when he touched the two terminals it discharged the new battery?

He's at work this morning and I was going to take a look at it but I really don't want to start off with buying another new battery.

Any advice?

I think the auto start/stop works off the AUX battery, and that battery is charged from the main battery as opposed to charging from the alternator.

I don't know enough to diagnose the 10.7v concern, but I'd start with checking all of the battery connections since he just replaced both of them (most likely point to screw up).

I would think the IBS could be bad if the battery is good?

It appears none of them take batteries
JCG=?

Charge the battery for the ESS and unless its super cold weather the message should go away.

There seemed to be just enough juice to unlock the door and illuminate the headlamps, but just barely.

I tried cranking it but it did absolutely nothing.

I pulled both batteries. The main battery is showing 12.55v and the aux is showing 7.9v.

I'm scratching my head here.

My son in law says it cranked up and was running fine until he shorted the batteries. I see how he did that now. He was using an Allen key to either tighten or loosen the screw on the aux battery and the end touched the post on the main battery.

If he just changed them they are under warranty. I would just return the Aux battery for a new one.

I think I found the problem.

Here's a pic of the fuse block where you connect the red end of a jumper cable.

I assume shorting the batteries blew the 150A fuse link.

That will do it and good news is that part did its job!

Just from a quick google search, several places. Not for a specific model year.

Should be able to replace just the singe fusible link and not the entire block. I'd pull one and measure to order online or run it up to the local auto parts store.

Unfortunately, he got an entire block from the dealership in the city where he works.

That definitely wasn't what he wanted to do, but no one in this area had the part and none of the salvage yards had a 2011 and up JGC or Durango that I could have gotten the part from.

He didn't want to wait on the part shipping because my daughter and her baby would be without transportation until the jeep gets fixed, and it's now running.
