Keep my wife in your prayers

How do you suppose it works that antibiotics and probiotics do the same thing?

Well, depends on what bacteria are out of control, but the good gut bacteria help keep the bad in check in a healthy person. So, probiotics can help with that. In some cases, antibiotics are needed, which is like scorched earth warfare since they kill the good and bad bacteria. Then you gotta repopulate the food so the bad don’t take over again.

I have to check my schedule again. I didn't think I had science class today.

Chief,
I’m in and out here sporadically so was no not aware of your Wife’s condition. Praying for your Wife , for the doctors wisdom , and the Lord’s peace and grace in this for you and all concerned..It’s tough to deal with seeing the ones you love the most suffer (especially when their own stubbornness has exacerbated the condition) ..I am dealing with much the same responses concerning my own wife’s medical needs. ….I KNOW how frustrating it can be. She’s the Love of my life and after 57years I can’t imagine being without her.
HANG IN THERE MY FRIEND!

This crap is really wearing everybody down.

Beth was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. YAY!

Beth was back in the hospital late last night. 😧😧😧

Don't know what the problem is right now...they're gonna be doing some GI testing and whatnot.

When it rains, it effin' pours, I'm telling you.

Well...not really.

Antibiotics are about killing bacteria...hence "anti". Unfortunately, even with antibiotics tailored for certain types of bacteria, they pretty much kill all bacteria indiscriminately. They don't care whether the bacterial is bad or good.

Which is unfortunate, because our GI tract relies on a balance of beneficial bacteria for good performance. Kill them off and you start having potentially serious consequences, what with the GI tract being absolutely essential in extracting nutrients of all types which the body needs to function.

Probiotics is about establishing and maintaining a balance of beneficial bacteria and yeasts in the gut, not killing them. In context here, it's about putting back what good stuff the antibiotics took out.

Quick, somebody else explain the joke.

SO...

Friday they found an ulcer AND she had a bleeder from the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) around the stomach.

Saturday they put a plastic coil in the GDA which stopped the bleeding.

She's looking lots better and complaining about the food. Ate a decent amount for dinner yesterday, a better sign!

Her wounds on her feet and legs continue to slowly improve, and miracle of miracles, she's doing her calf/leg exercises life she should to help her circulation!

Meanwhile...oldest daughter just went into surgery a few minutes ago, but this is part of a long planned course of action to figure out why her monthly cramps have always been so bad. Exams so far haven't found tumors or anything else by nonsurgical means, so this is the next step. Hopefully they find something and fix it.

Full internal clean/inspect huh? Who is doing the QA on that?

You're not a real technician unless you evaluate something "Does not affect fit, form or function, no corrective action required".

These are all jokes that only Chief will understand.

Just read your updates, Chief.

Damn good thing these ladies have you to look after 'em! Still praying for all of you.

Daddy's Little Troublemaker is out of surgery! Was only a few minutes!

Doctor said it went very well. He didn't find anything, which means it's probably just a small bit of endometriosis, which he already has her taking medication for.

And apparently the medication has been working, since she's told him she's had improvement.

Two small incisions is it.

She's in recovery now and they'll call me soon.

She was starving and thirsty before surgery and wanted to eat afterwards, so we spent some of her nervous energy looking for places to visit after this is done. Green Fetish in Greenville is where we'll go. PROVIDED, of course, she feels like eating so soon after surgery!

And hopefully Beth will be getting discharged today, as well!

I'm just catching up, for which I'm sorry.

Prayers are coming your way, and will keep coming for you, your wife and the whole family. When someone from a family is in the hospital it stresses everyone. Prayers and knowing that God is watching will comfort you'all when you have time to be comforted and need it most.

Miri is bummed they didn't find the source of her problem.
Sometimes not finding anything is a good medical outcome, even if it’s frustrating.
Beth may be staying in the hospital a while longer...might have an issue with more blood in the stool.

One day at a time.
One day at a time, indeed. Better safe than sorry and she’s a lot closer to help at the hospital, even if it royally sucks.

I tried explaining to her that not finding anything is just as important as finding something.

Not finding something eliminates specific causes and locations. They KNOW there's a problem and what organ(s) to look to for the cause. It's a matter of process of elimination.

Some have expressed concern about the stress. You guys are great to point this kind of stuff out.

I do get to de-stress. Did some car work, for example.

I got the replacement climate control head for Ivy's Ford Edge, so now she has heat in her car again. The A/C wouldn't turn off with her old one, which meant she'd barely get any heat. About a $50 used part.

Miri's Lexus RX300 dashboard was pretty much lit up like a Christmas tree. All I got before I looked at it was check engine light was on and she could smell gas.

Riiiiiight...what about everything else, kiddo? 🤨

Check engine light on and flashing (a misfire indication)

Brake light on

Burned out light indicator on

Washer fluid low light on

TRAC OFF light on

*sigh*

Filled the washer fluid reservoir, fixed that light.

Brake fluid was at the "MIN" level. She had a problem a couple years ago with the brake fluid level float switch (built into the reservoir cap, making it about a $150 part). I managed to fix the existing float switch, but later found an OEM replacement for about $50 and ordered it "just in case". Well, I topped off her fluid and went ahead and replaced the cap. Fixed that light. (Need to pull her wheels soon and check brake pad wear.)

Upper brake light was out...replaced that, which fixed that indicator light.

My scan tool said three cylinders were misfiring.

Bought a set of iridium spark plugs and replaced them first, before I jumped right into replacing ignition coils at $80 a pop.

All the plugs looked nominal except the number 4 cylinder, which was gunked up. Probably a bad coil causing that. Cleared the fault codes, test drove it...flashing check engine light and TRAC OFF light came back in.

Codes said misfire on cylinder 4. Replaced that coil, cleared codes again...NO MORE LIGHTS! YAY!

Gas smell was probably unburned gas in the exhaust.

Felt good when I was done.

Tomorrow I'll hit up a junkyard for some miscellaneous small parts I noticed on Mori's Lexus. Missing a 5mm nut for the engine cover, as well as the Lexus emblem on top of it that's been missing forever. Couple fasteners missing on the plastic radiator cover (irritates me, given the fact that I paid someone else to replace the radiator because I was out of town and I KNOW those fasteners were there before. (There are suspiciously clean circles around those two spots.)

Might as well get four lug nuts, since I'll be there. Each wheel has one of those stupid security lug nuts on it and guess what Miri somehow managed to lose out of her car? Yep... the matching security lug nut socket. I hate those things. They're annoying, especially because they don't stop anybody from stealing wheels anyway. They only make about 5 or so different keyed lug nuts patterns, and people looking to steel wheels off cars will have a full set.

Oh, yeah!

Beth is doing fine. Fantastic appetite and about as mobile as can be expected, given the lower leg issues.

Slow and steady improvement in wound appearances. No signs of infection, but still a lot of clear seepage.

Doesn't seem to be any more signs of blood in her stool.

Blood sugar under control with insulin.

Still doing her feet/lower leg exercises to help with circulation.

And will be going into rehab for a while to help her recover.

Based upon what you described, I’m inclined to agree that it’s endometriosis.

I think they’ve pretty much ruled out all the other scary stuff.
