Lawsuit against Mecklenburg County Sheriff

The idiot doing the interview has taken ONE call in the first 30 minutes. He is pathetic.

Apparently ALL CWP requests/renewals are sent to the VA first, then when (if) the Sheriffs office gets them back, the 45 day period starts... (??) The Sheriff says he is only utilizing the "system" that was already in place before he got there.
The host is "not a gun guy" but thinks this is a good idea....

7:45pm... 2 calls in 45 minutes.. The first call was CWP related, the second call was not. I've been on hold with WBT for 36 minutes...

7:50pm... Call #3 is not about the CWP subject...

7:52pm... Call #4 is VA/CWP related. The caller thinks Veterans do not need to be vetted for CWP. He is asking about kids playing violent video games and being a liability when firearms are concerned. The sheriff thinks "we" need to examine the games and music todays kids are exposed to.

7:57pm... Still on hold

7:58pm... Call #5 not CWP related

8:00pm... WBT did not take my call..

Basically the interview was the blind leading the blind...

I think the GRNC should request equal air time on this show. It airs nightly M-F from 7-8pm..

I called WBT one day when he was on the air. I told the screener, I have been a listener for close to 15 years and he was the worst "host" they ever had. The 6 minutes I was on hold, I counted him say "like" 38 times...

He previously covered high school and some regional college sports teams and should have stayed there...

Matt Dougherty is my second least favorite "host"....

Brett Jensen is terrible at best. He doesnt seem to know much about anything.

Pete Kaliner is a great host. He is on it today! He has made some great points and is spot on with his observations and commentary. I think he used to be an investigative reporter..(?)

I really like Pete and wish I could have listed today. I'll probably grab the podcast later to listen to.

Ironically,

WBT midday host Pete Kaliner is getting ready to talk about the CWP interview that Brett Jensen did with the Sheriff last week. Meck county is the only county in NC having a problem.

1110am WBT radio can be livestreamed from their website. I think they will be discussing this issue after 1pm today.

I'd like to hear McFadden interviewed by Vince Coakley.

It’s a Christmas miracle!

ETA: two days shy of being eight months from submission to approval…and almost a week past the deadline according to the 45-day requirement (after all mental health checks are received, which isn’t how they law is written)

@walker

Here’s a discussion about the CHP issues in Meck.

I don’t know how the guy that told me that knew it. He’s a first responder (EMT or something) in Cabarrus County.

Surely GRNC would be aware of this…
The Sheriff and his bonded status should be a matter of public record.

Not gonna argue that at all…but somebody had to even think to check that. Just curious as to why he knew that. Meant to ask him yesterday.

Assuming USPS makes it here today…looks like a week from approval to receipt. Just in time to save a NICS check for the two shotguns that should be delivered today.

So the renewal was approved 12/4, yet they didn’t notify me until the 16th. Which is dumb, as they actually met the 45-day mark for approval. 🙄

Hey everyone, I just wanted to give an update on my Mecklenburg CHP process, since I was searching desperately for a timeline of someone else's experience, i figured someone else would also be looking for one.

March 19th, 2022 - Took required certification class. (Carolina Sporting Arms on South Boulevard is great if you are undecided.)

March 19th (Nighttime) - Applied online via Sheriff website.

Originally scheduled appointment for May 27th, but the new first come, first serve fingerprinting rule took effect on May 12th, so I was FIFTH in line for fingerprinting that day. (Silly me thought I would have an edge over everyone else if I was early.)

December 30th, 2022 - APPROVED, got the call / text / email bombardment at 6:18am, which is interesting, but ill take it.

Based on what I have seen and experienced with PPP’s, it takes a week to get the permit through mail.

Other notes - I never called AND talked to the sheriffs office, because they wouldn't answer the phone. Also, the website slideshow dates dont matter I guess, my date (5/12/22), still hasnt showed up, so i wouldnt get too stressed about that.

Good luck to everyone else going through this!

Toady I was listening to WBT-AM radio and Brett Jensen's topic of the day was the repeal of the pistol purchase permits.

A caller mentioned the long wait times with the Sheriff's department for pistol purchase and carry permits. Jensen's answer was, if you had already waited a month or two, for you to email McFadden directly because he knew the sheriff would take care of it for you.

And if that didn't speed up the process for you, just email Brett Jensen and he would get in contact the sheriff to make sure it was handled promptly.

( I'm not making this up )

He's an idiot and I'm not sure why he is there. His interview with McFadden was terrible. I never call in but was waiting on hold when he was interviewing McFadden because his questions were so bad. Never got through. I really enjoy Pete and Brett when I can listen.

I've mentioned it before, but the ONLY time I've ever called into WBT was to tell them how worthless Brett Jensen was. He was a low level sports reporter who for some reason was given some air time...

Now that the good sheriff won’t be issuing purchase permits, I’m sure he will have all kinds of manpower to put towards the CHP backlog….
… that could be said for quite a few other large liberal I-40/85 corridor counties like Wake, Durham, etc but the same results will likely occur in all of them … manpower and funds will be wasted on some other bogus program.

Now that NC has eliminated the PPP, maybe all the Sheriff's departments will have plenty of time and personnel freed up to process concealed carry applications on time.

All of them don't need to free up time or personnel to get the job done. Some of them know how to do what they are supposed to do.

Our sheriff moved a computer into the lobby just for that purpose so people could walk in and fill out the paperwork. The guy that handles that in our county even came out and filled it out for me and my wife when we renewed. Might have taken 2 weeks to get them back.

Any county that can't get it done like that needs a new sheriff.

He has four employees who are being re-trained, he's not sure how long that will take ( I'm sure that's because what's required to process concealed permits is so different than the purchase permits )

I don’t think manpower is the issue. It’s the envelopes full of mental health checks sitting at the VA that’s the big delay. One of our members here went and saw the cabinet…and had them process his on the spot and fax it to the sheriff. 😁

To be fair, I was being sarcastic. It hasn't seemed to be a high priority for him since day one.

Run the vehicle thru an automatic carwash and it will clean that off the hood.

Funny little thing about priorities and vehicles with a past more professional Durham Co Sheriff … he believed appearances played a role in law enforcement getting a little more respect. Before shift a deputy was expected to make sure his patrol vehicle was clean. That included taking it thru an automatic carwash the department had contracted with as well as making sure all 4 hubcaps were on (yeah i back when cars had hub caps). Man has the idea of “professional appearance” change from then to now … from tidy proper uniforms and equipment to titties and posting.
