Looking for a new handgun and ran into a problem…despite added cost and decades of development none I am interested in really are any better than my Glock 19 MOS. Even at double or quadruple the cost the offer no benefit.

Edit: note “C” is the Staccato C

Guess depends on what your definition of better is. I think the 365 and the C are better but thats just my opinion

If it ain't broke don't fix it . 😆 I still use a Glock 19 gen 3 for my EDC for the same reason. The only reason the military went with SIG over Glock was 1 cost and 2 because the SIG trigger is technically the "gun" it has better modularity. If you called the trigger system for any other firearm the "firearm" then they could all be super modular. I feel like SIG kinda got away with murder on that. I also don't like my handgun to fire without me pulling the trigger 😜.

The real problem is you're not looking at a Walther or HK to replace that Glock. The G19 is a good tool. The Germans just build guns that are more comfortable.

I bought my first G19 a long time ago. Over the last 20 years, I have tried to try all the new shiny things as they hit the market. I’ve sold and traded away Glock 19s along the way in hope of finding something better. I always end up coming back to a Glock. My current one is a an older Gen 3 it does everything well and is truly a “do everything” handgun for me. I conceal carry it , I shoot matches with it. I do have some smaller guns that are easy to carry, but I don’t shoot them as well. I also have a couple of larger better options including a P320X5 that should be better for competition. I might pick up a Gen 5 this year ( I have lost count with how many rounds through my Gen 3 over the last 12 years ) I’ve even picked up a PSA dagger for my daughter- I’ll be shooting it in a 2 gun match tomorrow.

When you already like the lowest common denominator of handguns, there is no reason to look any further.

I can’t say anything to Me is better than a 19X aside from a 19 Gen 3. Both are an all around good gun

Sig P365 X Macro is my latest "perfect pistol". I'm starting to find some faults with it. I've already purchased two holsters. And a Wilson XL module for a shorter grip. Got to have magazines for the Wilson grip. I didn't know Sig magazines were a bit difficult to find. A lot of web places carry Sig mags . . . "Out of Stock". Sig magazines are not cheap. I do like the Sig p365 ergonomics. And the modularity.

S&W M&Ps never were my "perfect pistol". I gave up on them some time ago.

Glock 19 mags are cheap compared to Sig p365 mags. Glock parts are cheap. The word cheap comes up a lot when discussing Glocks! But the Glock 19 is dadgum great all -around handgun!

i have a growing stack of carry options that I acquire, practice with, and put away when they dont outperform my G19. I dont love it but i seem to be stuck with it.
Maybe try the G45. I went from liking my 19 to loving the G45. I have pretty average hands, wear a M glove. I still love the full size frame. The 19 isn't bad at all, and I still prefer to my 365xl...but the 45 is just on another level.

It seems that one important question is missing from the "better/best" criteria.

How does it feel? How well does it suit you...personally...when you pick it up?

An important consideration, because...like it/believe it or not...this will have an effect on your performance. Maybe the most important consideration of all.

Not what you can adapt to. Not what you can eventually get used to.

How does it feel? How does it fall into your hand?

Cooper once wrote: "A proper weapon should be alluring to the hand."

A wise, old gunman once told me of selecting a revolver: "You'll know it when you put it in your hand. It will simply hit the spot."

No Glock I've ever handled has hit the spot. In fairness, neither have many of the modern offerings, but since this thread is focused on the Glock...

This is not to disparage. Many people like them. I'm just not one of those people. I've tried them. Several of them. I can't get my hand to wrap around one to save me outta torment.

Plus, I knew way back in the early 80s that trigger widget was gonna be a problem on reholstering if one's attention lapses for a split second, which is easy to do under stress or even in a relaxed hurry...but that's a different question for a different day.

My 2% of a buck. No more, no less.

Cheers!

I seem to be the last person who has never owned a Glock...
Same here.

Some models that have been around a good while appear to remain fairly popular despite objectively better choices today, but I came into the avocation only in recent years and didn't get caught up in the Glock adoption wave from 30-ish years ago.

I'd actually like to have one, but I don't know why other than to just be able to say I have one. Other priorities have intervened, and I didn't spend the $$, but I have my eye on one in particular.

I don't have a 1911 either. I'd like to get one but Ive been told that real 1911s are only those chambered in 45ACP and that my manhood would be spoken of in a coarse manner when I was out of earshot if I got one in another chambering, and those are unreliable anyway.

I dont like the grip of a Glock. I shoot a lot of other handguns better. CZ, S&W, Walthers, Berettas even.

Glocks are dead nuts reliable and a great tool. I can certainly use them, but unless its issued to me I would rather put my money towards something else.

Sometimes you can't put things in a spreadsheet. I trust M&Ps. First duty gun I was issued. I love M16A2s. Nothing wrong with liking what you're comfortable with.

Also, once I invest in the mags switching gets even more painful

I shot a friend's canik this past weekend. Yes it was larger than a g19, the canik felt better to shoot, I was more accurate with the canik, canik had the better trigger, ready for optics and cheaper than a new gen 5

I'm the same as a few above. Never owned a Glock. Shot several, but just never felt right to me. One day I will have one just to have one most likely.

But onto the question. It's a want, not a need.

If you want it, get it. I've ended up just sticking to my M&P9c gen 1 and my old school LCP.

Every time I get hyped up on a new plastic fantastic and get my hands on it. It just never does anything for me. More rounds, more smallness, more whatever. But it just never can make me get away from my old friends for the buy in after considering magazines, holsters and such.

Now old steel and cheapish .22 pistols? I want, I get😎

I am a Glock guy through and through. I have quite a few of them. I like the simplicity of a Glock. No buttons and/or levers everywhere sticking out. I like a smooth sleek handgun. I have been conceal carrying a 43x for a couple years. Then, I ran across the Hellcat Pro OSP. It has all the same sleekness of a Glock. It also has a flat faced trigger, steel sights, and comes optic ready. If you find one of the "gear up" packages you get extra mags for basically free or for just a little bit more. It's a great carry gun and is around the same size as a 43x, but holds 15 plus 1 in it's standard configuration. I don't know if you were looking for a carry gun, but I'm just throwing this out there. To me, it's the micro Glock that Glock never made.

Sometimes in want of "something new" we forget to appreciate what we already have.
Maybe update or accessorize what you have, like new sights, a new barrel or holster. And ammo. Can always use more ammo. A good class is also a good investment.
