Most Accurate Non-AR Semi-Auto Service Rifle

Before you do, consider the Browning M2. šŸ˜‚

In semi-auto, why not right?

A Valmet in 308 might be an interesting option. They're expensive and hard to find, but I think (could be wrong) they work with some galil mags. Sig 55x series also has a lot of positive things.

1 MOA our of a 'service rifle' is asking a lot. I think a good route might be buying whatever rifle strikes your fancy (M14, G3, FAL, whatever) and seeing what the accurization is like. M14s are tough because any time you break the rifle down to where its out of its stock, it needs bedded again. Other systems might require a better quality barrel and blueprinting done by a competent shop.

ARs can be extremely boring but they are definitely commonplace for a reason.

Handled an H&K SL8 on @cubrock table at the Asheville show this afternoon. Ticks all my boxes for this purpose - not an AR, free floated barrel should be plenty accurate, etc.

I could get past the lack of threaded barrel, Butā€¦.why the proprietary magazines?! I was ready to buy and then decide which to keep - the HK or the CZ - but not if I need to lay in dozens of new magazines. Seems that reconfiguring to accept STANAG mags would make all sorts of sense.

why the proprietary magazines
Because HK's motto is "you suck and we hate you"?
Also they can sell you expensive unicorn magazines.

$70 for a 10 rounder. SEVENTY DOLLARS. For a plastic 10 round magazine.

In a world of compromises, some people put the bullets in the magazine backwardsā€¦But it doesnā€™t matter, because our gun is on the cover of the Rainbow Six video games. Look how cool that SEAL coming out of the water looksā€¦ If you buy a $2,000 SOCOM, you will be that cool of an operator too. And chicks will dig you.

At HK, we stuck a piston on an AR15, just like a bunch of other companies have done, dating back to about 1969. However ours is better, because we refuse to sell it to civilians. Because you suck, and we hate you.

Our XM8 is the greatest rifle ever developed. It may melt, and it doesnā€™t fit any accessories known to man, but that is your fault. If you were a real operator, you would love it. Once again, look at Rainbow Six, that G36 sure is cool isnā€™t it? Yeah, you know you want one. And by the way, check out our new HK45. We decided that humans donā€™t need to release the magazine with their thumbs. If you were a really manly Teutonic operator, you would be able to reach the controls. Plus weā€™ve fired 100,000,000 rounds through one with zero malfunctions, and that was while it was buried in a lake of molten lava, on the moon. If you donā€™t believe us, it is because you arenā€™t a real operator.

By the way, our cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns like the G3 and MP5 are the bestest things ever, and totally worth asinine scalpers prices, but note that cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns from other countries are commie garbage. Not that it matters, because youā€™re civilians, so we wonā€™t sell them to you anyway. Because you suck, and we hate you, but we know youā€™ll be back. We can beat you down like a trailer park wife, but youā€™ll come back, you always do.

Buy our stuff.

Sincerely,

HK Marketing Department

So, I bought a CZ Bren 2ms 14ā€. Weā€™ll see how that goes.
Let me know ff you want to give a Bren 805 a try. I've never had the time or inclination to put a big scope on it and test the accuracy but I'd be interested to know how it compares to the new model.

The SL8 is a great rifle, I always enjoyed it. ITs a different bird then most and have some parts in common with the G36.

I grew up on the XM21/M21 with ART II scope. Also carried the same M14 NM in Kenya and Iraq. Used same rifle at the All Army Match in 06' at 600,800 and 1000 yds iron sights.

Back in the early 90s after the first Gulf War, 5th SFGA had a pair of commercial Browning BAR receivers chambered in .300WM heavy bbl that were tack drivers. FN MK20 is used as a sniper support rifle to the M2010 .300 WM or Mk22 sniper system.

The IWI Carmel is now on the market, but based on various Tavor models, I wouldn't count on one for supreme accuracy. Seems I remember they have a sort of quick change barrel too.

I've been waiting on their release .. want to play with one and compare it to my Bren 2, but definitely on the short list for next rifle for me.

The Carmel is so hideous that I just have to have one. -10 pts for being manufactured in India, though.

Watch Family Firearms. They just had them yesterday for about $1400 but they sold out fast.
