Motorcycle love

That’s high-larious. 🤣 😅 😂

I mean, no offense if that’s a member here.

The Harley Davidson Motor Company says this part will NOT fit my motorcycle. They have two versions of this identical part. One is $117, the other is $232.

I chose door #1. This is the second or third thing I’ve installed this week that they said wouldn’t fit my bike.

I take that as a dare. I know I said there’d be no bling on this bike. That is not entirely accurate.

And installed.

No modification whatsoever.

^That looks good. I've seen lots of those fender rails and most don't excite me but that one looks good on your bike.

Here’s what you will be the happiest about.

Stock exhaust. I’m real happy with it. Loud as I need to hear.

Ash I wouldn't mind a slip-on maybe. Yamaha uses a valve that opens and closes in the header corresponding with throttle position. The design is to increase low end and mid range, and it works. (they stole the idea from their sportbikes) I wanna keep that. But stuff is getting hard to find for the roadliner, and some guys are buying HD slip ons and fabbing them to fit. Most of them look pretty sharp, kind of hard to tell what they sound like.
I like the low rumble purr my bike has. You heard it. Guys paying good coin to get that note.

I could put some CVO slip-on cans on mine for a lower rumble, but I’m planning some trips, and I don’t want the racket anymore. It sounds good to my ear as it is.

A friend of mine bought a Ultra Classic new in 2007, sold it in 2020, 140,000 plus miles. 100% stock, did the maintenance but other than that never changed anything including the exhaust.

But as a retirement gift to himself, he bought a 2020 Road Glide and did exhaust, air cleaner, cams and tuner before he took delivery. Then spent something like $8K on paint. But he's happy.

There’s a very nice looking, low miles ‘80 ironhead Sportster in the “non-firearm” classifieds for a screaming price. Will need a title but the OP has done some legwork towards that. In Asheville.

That would be a fun project but I need another project like I need another hole in my head.

Yep, I didn’t see any room in the shop for another bike.

What about the living room? Tell the missus it’s a belated Valentine gift for her.

Any of you boys want a set of ’61-'62 tank badges? Harley usually does a really good job with their parts and accessories, but even the badge and the backing plate barely fit together, and not very well at all.

I’d have to really manhandle it, and mash it into submission to get the badges to fit the contour of a 2024 tank.

I've done biz with dbarale. Straight up/good to go.

Ash, put those tank badges on that black tail pack you got.

They are not flat,

and that police box is so ugly I took it off until I plan a trip. Which is really why I got it.

Edit: The manhandling and the mashing has commenced. I’ll either bend them into submission, or break them. Either way, I got them for skinny money, so we'll see what happens. Back later.

Who says tank badges made for a 62 year old bike with 3.75 gallon tank/s won’t fit a new bike with a 6 gallon tank?
I think I did last night.
I seriously figured these would go in the parts box to sleep for all eternity.

tank/fender gives it just enough bling. looks good

and that’s all I plan. I had been thinking about both while I was shopping Road Kings the last few years, but of course HD says both sets of parts won’t fit.

The fender rail was cumbersome to get under the fender. But doable.

The badges had to be persuaded.

And now it looks like a proper FLH

The family is out of town Sunday to Wednesday. I need to plan a little motor-sickle road trip Sunday to Tuesday. But where.

It’s going to get wet to the west, and chilly down east towards the coast, Outer Banks. But central NC is going to be peachy.

The Road Glide is the dirtiest I have ever seen it. Rode to Beaufort Monday and Tuesday. Bugs, 1.5 miles of dirt road. Pollen....

I will get her cleaned up this weekend sometime.

@fieldgrade let me know if you are doing brunch Sunday, i may try to make it out.

I plan to be at brunch.

I told my wife, as pretty as that road glide is, it was always dirty. All that black and dark blue. Even when it’s clean it’s dirty.

Got the replacement harness to fix the bag light today.. that took a full day of emails back and forth. Custom dynamics is in Youngsville NC. I could have picked it up instead.
