Motorcycle love

@Sp00ks I also like the k&n black filter...less than an HD and has the ability to take off with a socket if needed. Watched a youtuber cut a bunch apart s&s/k&n for me
Thanks, that is the one I got. The only reason why I went with Lucas is it was the same price as Mobile1 at Advance. Typically for the car and other bikes, I use Mobile1.

I have S&S and Lucas saved on my Amazon list.

Carolina Brewery at Pittsboro tomorrow. Opens at 10AM. There’ll be some riders, and the breakfast is good.

The Bloody Marys even better . $5

I finally found the right bike at the right price, so my wife, son and I took a road trip over to Lawrenceville, TN to pick it up. Man, east Tennessee is BEAUTIFUL!!! We got back home late last night with my new-to-me ride. It's a 2012 Ducati Diavel Carbon Red. It's kind of a weird fusion of a power cruiser and a sport bike. It has a 1200cc (1198) v-twin (Ducati calls it an "L" twin) and makes 162 hp with 96 lb ft of torque. It's supposedly capable of 0-60 in 2.5 seconds (although not with me on it!). This bike is in pretty good shape and just needs a few fixes, like a new gear shift position sensor and a new back tire. Somebody was clearly a fan of doing burnouts.

Any way, on to the pics!

I was originally thinking of a Vmax. A friend of min in Japan had one back in 1992 and I've wanted one ever since. But they handle like a pig in the twisties and I love to lean into turns. So, when I learned about the Diavel, I refocused my efforts on finding one.

They have a nice V-Max for sale here at a local shop. It has been tempting me. Look up 17customs.com. they are in Little River, they want $4995.

That's a looker! It's got the same red ghost flame paint job as the 2005 20th Anniversary model. $5K asking is not bad, and you could probably talk it down a little from there. The Corbin seat and Kerker 4-1 exhaust are nice upgrades. Somebody put a fair amount of effort and $$ into adding all that chrome. I certainly wouldn't feel embarrassed to show up at bike night on that ride.

Boxed up the Glide seat to send to Mean City Cycles. They said they can raise the ride height about an inch. I also asked them if they could fine tune some of the pressure points out of the police seat. They declined to work on it because they just haven’t had success rebuilding tractor style seats.

That looks like my kinda ride! Gimme those roads that are barely on the map
It’s designated an NC Scenic Byway. It’s about as pretty a mountain valley ride as I’ve ever seen and plenty of twisties, but fairly civilized.

Well, first track day on the R6 is done and dusted. Me, well, I feel like I've been run over by a car, lol. I've never been this sore riding the Honda. Those damn R6's are torture racks, but overall I'm pleased. That engine has got some steam for sure, and I went through the kink at CMP faster than I've ever gone, 121 mph.

I spent some time working on the suspension, as the guys that "say" they tune suspension said they were more worried about doing tires, and took my number and said they would text me "if" they had time. I went by at lunch, and same story. I told them maybe they shouldn't advertise suspension tuning if they really didn't have time or didn't want to fool with it. Anyway.

I had bad chatter under heavy braking, so I worked on that and got it straight, and then I had to play around with tire pressures to get the Dunlops happy. The Q4's did pretty good, but they will be my first and last set I use, as I will be going back to full slicks. I didn't have any trouble out of the bike, but will be changing some stuff up on it. I don't like the clutch and brake levers, and I'm gonna change front pads, as the ones on it offered plenty of bite, but not much feel. I'll go back to my tried and true Vesrah race pads. So, all in all, a good day, as the bike and I came home like we left the house. Changes, they are a coming, lol. Oh, GoPro videos will be getting uploaded hopefully tomorrow.

Looking forward to the vids.

268 from just above Lenior (Happy Valley) up to Wilkesboro is one more beautiful ride.

A friend of mine started a YouTube channel when he retired. A while back we did 268, here's the videos he posted of the ride.

The place we had lunch ( video #2 ), Teens and Deens was outstanding.

Rode the VFR today and felt awkward as hell. Couldn't find the pegs,....didn't take me 5 mins but at first it was a struggle. So fast and that v4 sound....
Thats what happens when you can jump from bike to bike, you gotta relearn where everything is . Then you appreciate it for what is.

Packed up for a camping trip this weekend with some extended chopped buddies! 😎 Goong to be a blast on the Trent river.River.

That would be a 360 mile round trip for me. On a Kick only, HardTail ShovelHead, I wouldn't be able to walk right for 2 weeks.

I had just dismounted and was rolling up my chaps to put in my bag when he rolled up. By the time he was done parking, I had to reach over my seat to get out my dinner bucket out of my other bag.

Me: YKK
Him: Huh?
Me: YKK, that's what is on my zipper
Him: Grin
Me: Figured you couldn't see it that far away
Him: Yeah, nice jacket.

Well...I reckon you could say he's getting better?20240502_091431.jpg
I was the third motorcycle parked this morning. So, plenty more concrete to use for everyone else. Just my novice observation but it seems to me the import guys like rubbin' elbows...

129, Tail of the Dragon is being paved as we speak. I’m going anyway if I can get a good three day forecast mid-week in the next couple of weeks. Plenty of great roads up there.

Met a big young fire/rescue fella on a Sportster today at lunch in Broadway. He said his dad is 68 and doesn’t really ride anymore because he’s old. Knee replacements, cancer.

I told him I’m the same age and not slowing down yet.

Hit up the stitching shepherd he is in the Jville area
Google says it’s temporarily closed. I always hate to hear that about a small business. I was one once upon a time.

We were trying to head up there next week but It's not looking like it's going to work out. We are going to do some day rides, if you are interested or have some suggestions..... We could do a weekend but I don't want to.... Rain through Tuesday from what I'm seeing.

Marsh is sounding like she wants to hit up the Airborn Museum in Fayettenam at some point next week.
