Maybe you have not tried the right banana on the Glock.
Simplified version of a famous quote: a 1911 has a failure = just breaking in; a Hi Point has a failure = POS.
Jokes apart, someone I knew bought a RIA 1911 in 9mm and also had issues with it on his first 2-3 sessions. He followed my advise and immediately sent it back. It was returned a couple of weeks later and he claimed it felt better than before and he could not make it fail since. Now you have a reliable gun, send the 1911 back and allow the manufacturer make it better. Then shoot it again and see if you wan to keep it or send it away. I still think that a full size 1911 in 9mm is one of the best guns to teach people how to shoot.
