Netflix price bump, was enough to cancel

โ€ฆbut our soon to be 11 year old son is absolutely hooked on Seinfeld so it looks like we keep it. Well worth the money hearing the boy dropping Seinfeld quotes into conversations :)

Service as as good as my Verizon company plan. Worlds better than T- Mobile
They use Verizon towers.

The Netflix price increase doesn't bother me as much as how frequently they have raised the price. We have Prime, but hardly ever watch anything on there. Cancelled Disney+ when they fired an actress for having a conservative opinion, and I watch mostly Hulu now.

The streaming service that's had the most content I enjoy is AMC+/Sundance ordered as an add on through Prime. Lot's of suspense type stuff from english speaking other countries that's not all woke programming. There was a detective show that featured a young woke cop character and the rest of the cops were constantly telling her that her feelings were irrelevant. They squeezed in the statement and then immediately squash it as rubbish. Wish I remembered what it was called.

You know you are still funneling your money to Disney through Hulu right?

i cant imagine paying extra for 4k. shoot, i dig it that 1080p tvs are bargain basement now.
like... people do you even know how close to the tv you have to be sitting to the tv to see the difference in resolution? hint... it's pretty close
Ehh, I got it more for the ability to have 4 simultaneous streams, fwiw, we have a 75in 4K in the living room and you can definitely tell a difference in between 4K and 1080

if you sit close enough and your eyes are good enough. I got a 70" tv and sit close enough that we should be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080... but you really don't notice once you're into the story. I'd rather watch a good video at lower resolution than no story with great image
unless we're talking porn.

As for 4 streams... my parents use my netflix. me and my wife have netflix on 5 tvs plus phones tablets and computers. so far we've never run into an issue with going over our limit. but then we also have hulu, paramount, peacock, and prime, and we borrow d+ and hbo.

Yeah we used to run into it often (when we had the standard 2 stream package) but that was when we only had Netflix and Prime Video. We have added Disney +/ Hulu and peacock since then, so probably wouldnโ€™t run into it as often now lol

Meant to add this earlierโ€ฆ.

Working TV and movie quotes into normal, everyday conversations is highly underratedโ€ฆmy son and I do it all the time; drives my wife and daughter crazy. Couple of examplesโ€ฆ.

Getting ready to eat supper. Everbody has their plates fixed except me. Since I was up, my son asked me to hand him a knife. Got one out of the block, handed it to him and said, โ€œUtivichโ€ฆscalp Hermanโ€. He takes it, starts cutting into his chicken breast and says, โ€œIโ€™m ona give you a little sumpin you cainโ€™t take off.โ€

Heโ€™s playing a first-person shooter on the Xbox. I look up, see that heโ€™s after somebody and say, โ€œShoot him now, Abe, shoot him now!โ€. Without turning around and looking at me, he says, โ€œShut up, Ligeโ€.

and I wonโ€™t even get into the Tombstone quotesโ€ฆthatโ€™s almost a daily occurrence.

Yes. My wife was on board with getting rid of Disney+, but it wasn't going to happen with Hulu. I'll take getting rid of half of the revenue from me for now.

That's because Spectrum carries them (via fiber) to a lot of their towers. And instead of being paid for it, they wanted to be able to use their cell towers to sell their own service. Same exact service. I switched too and couldn't be happier.

Where do y'all get these spectrum phones.

From Spectrum. BUT you have to have their home internet to get on the phone plan :/
What scares me is that we are getting ready to move and spectrum isnโ€™t offered out there. Iโ€™m hoping since we have been a loyal customer for 20 years they may can work something out. I never had issues with their cable or internet, Ever year they raise the price and after about a hr of me poor mouthing and being saintly nice they drop it back down

Principles? Because they bumped up a buck?

Several times, with the justification that they had to lower rates in other areas to be competitive. I get that they can raise rates in the US to make up for lowering them in India, because mostly no one cares. Our household isn't one that doesn't care.

Well that don't work here in the sticks. ๐Ÿคฃ

Yeah i switched to hulu. Better selection in my opinion. The only thing ive watched on netflix in recent history was cobra kai. Ill find a way to watch the new season when it comes out. But done with netflix.

Did not know that, thank you

For the record, I cop it from a coworker, never had netflix personally.
Rarely watch it, just dont do a ton of tv, really.

I just got an email this am saying theyโ€™re bumping the price AGAIN! Now going to $19.99/month.
Yup:

We hope youโ€™re enjoying everything Netflix has to offer. Weโ€™re updating our prices to bring you more great entertainment. Your monthly price will change to $19.99 on March 12, 2022.
This update will allow us to deliver even more value for your membership โ€” with stories that lift you up, move you or simply make your day a little better.

We still have it, but I can understand why people would dump it over "a buck".

It used to be cable service that got people...you paid for basic cable or some package that included a lot of crap you never watched.

Then the internet came along and the cable companies got in on that and your cable bill soared more.

Then streaming services started popping up, changing the paradigm. Now you could just have internet plus a streaming service, get what you wanted and at a good deal.

Then all the companies out there started pulling their content and making it available only through their own streaming services. Now you're entertainment costs soared even higher than before.

Netflix, Disney +, Hulu, Amazon Prime, CBS All Access, HBO, Tubi...the list goes on.

It's not just Netflix...it's the whole shebang taken together raking people over the coals. Add it all up and look at what you are spending. Then realize that an increase in one streaming service is likely to be followed by an increase in the other streaming services and suddenly its not "a buck", it's 20 or 30 bucks.

A month.

Times 12 for the year.

And don't forget the government gets a cut of all this, too.

I love Star Trek and would love to watch the new series that are going on. But damned if I'm going to pay for yet ANOTHER streaming service to watch them. I won't even go the "free trial" period to watch them on general principle.

Streaming services very shortly became another way to get people to spend even MORE of their hard earned money than ever before.

So yeah...I can see why some people would cancel over "a buck".

Now their effective income just went up 240 bucks a year.

I bought year of Paramount in order to watch Star Trek. The wife and I have been making our way through Voyager, and were halfway through the 3rd season when it went off Netflix. We have really been enjoying Discovery, which was a surprisingly good find. What I don't like is how they release the episodes slowly. I would much rather binge through the season while the story line is fresh in my head. Coming back into it after over a month is annoying. I also wish they would release the second Season of Picard, which is also surprisingly good. I am not likely to renew for a second year. I went with the whole year because it was cheaper and I figured I will get my fill of it in that time.

Before I dumped it, that's about what Slime Warner in High Point was charging me. The bill kept creeping upward and I finally said, enough. For as many hours as we watch it, being our primary source, $240 for a year isn't a bad deal in terms of cost per unit. Plus I like having the option of watching it while I eat lunch at work. I have learned that you need to be a little careful as they're not bashful about fully nekkid women without warning. Headphones handle the language, but the video is kind of harder to work with.

I have paramount too. I bought in to a year of a sports streaming package for like $2/mo that included paramount. it was a heck of a deal. unfortunately the only thing i've really watched is the latest season of bluebloods, picard, and the neighborhood. i really expected more from them. they must realize they don't have enough subscribers and are licensing their content out to other services.

How's your progress on ST Discovery? I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons but had to call it quits when Bunham started her "let's fly" comments to make the ship move. I'm dropping paramount this month. Hopefully 1883 will be done before I cancel.

i really wanted to like discovery.
but having to read the captions while the retronewklingons choked their way through the slowest of all klingon dialects...
i didn't even make it far enough to notice the wokeness.

The klingons were bad.

Weโ€™re in the middle of season 4. They just released a new episode after something like 8 weeks. Theyโ€™re getting into some unusual time anomaly stuff related to their going forward in time. Itโ€™s frustrating that they donโ€™t release te who.e season at once, which I suspect they do because people would binge watch it and then cancel. In the long run, itโ€™s going to hurt them playing it this way.

So.... I lost the DTV discount with work, so here's what I've been using....

HBO MAX: Free with my wireless account
Discovery +
HULU/ESPN/Disney: 20 a month
Netflix: 20
Amazon Prime: side affect from the Prime account anyways.

So we don't have anything we miss for tv, wife wanted Discovery, i could take or leave it, though I watch street outlaws on it.
