Just brought it home, thanks to the good folks at FG&G.

Slide to frame fit is good, like other SA’s I’ve owned. Not too tight, but doesn’t rattle like a Colt (which doesn’t bother me really). Locks up good. Thumb safety snicks on/off very positively, not squishy like new Colts.

I’m not real crazy about the rollmark to be honest, but these things appear to be a bargain for the fit and finish and I can live with that. Blueing on the slide looks excellent. Honestly it’s better than a Dan Wesson I sold last year (hopefully that was an isolated incident). Ships with one mag, and none of the usual holster, mag pouch, and hard case that my Range Officer came with a few years ago, which is probably how they are pricing this thing as aggressively as they are.

Trigger is a little gritty on take up and has a smidge of creep, but just a wee bit. I am thinking about changing out the ignition components for a set of EGW parts, 10-8 u-notch rear sight, S&A magwell, VZ Operator grips, Wilson Bulletproof low lever thumb safety, and EGW extended mag catch.

Are you allowed guests??? I'll drive up to shoot a new 1911! Wooooooo! lol.
Until the virus extravaganza is over it’s members only unfortunately.

Looks nice. Have you now owned every 9mm 1911 made? :D

You should write a book when you get some time under your belt with this one.
Heck no, and the list is long.
Nighthawk
Les Baer
Ed Brown
Ruger

and the variants, Sig, S&W, Para, etc, etc

Well, I'll see you guys soon at a match.....I hope I've gotten faster! (Can't hardly get a lot slower, can I? lol.)
Send pics of the gun in action, ok?

They don’t seem to mention it in the specs but these appear to be slim grips and slim grip bushings.

Putcha a Bullet Proof grip safety on it. You'll never settle for anything else again.
I fit one to a Colt Govt and I like them, although the Springer grip safety fits well. I did just fit a low lever Bulletproof thumb safety to it.

You should look at the Stan Chen SI magwell. https://store.chencustom.com/product_p/si-mag.htm

The Stan Chen should require no fitting on a new SA. It has a larger funnel than the S&A Magwell.

I detail stripped the gun and tweaked the two left legs of the sear spring a smidge, and worked a little on the channels in the frame for the trigger bow (really just exercised the trigger a few hundred times while it was completely apart and otherwise detail stripped.). Lubed things. Trigger started out at 5lbs. out of the box.

It is now a smoother 3.5lbs which is what I like for match blasting. I’ll get it to the range soon to be sure it runs right after futzing with it.

A 9mm 1911 you say? Mods, please lock @fieldgrade ’s account down and someone let Ash know his account has been hacked and there’s an impostor posting under his screen name.

ETA: nice pistol, bud!
You know the definition of insane right? :p

I like it except for the front serrations. I just don't care for them on any autoloader. Ash commented on the roll mark, I don't think it's bad, at all. It's small and looks a lot better than many of them.

I had front serrations on the Fusion and I never used them for press checks. It’s just not how I manipulate the gun. I use the rears, but I know a lot of people don’t like the fronts. I’m just ambivalent about them.

If this gun had front strap checkering it would check all my boxes, but it will be a match blaster, so I’ll put gray Dawson skateboard tape on it which almost looks like stippling and works every bit as well.

I swiped the stainless slide stop that I flush cut off another Springer, as well as the EGW extended mag catch which stands 1/16 taller like a Wilson Bulletproof, and the Wilson Bulletproof low lever thumb safety. It required a little fitting but all good now.

Looks like they did a good job fitting the grip safety.

My other Springer is a Range Officer that I bought from Knifeman a few years ago and I have always been exceptionally pleased with the fit, finish and function of the gun. It’s trigger is a little better than this one, but I expect 4-5000 rounds will smooth things out, and this one seems to be put together equally well. Especially for the skinny money.

Took my youngest boy to the range today. He’s not really a shooter, but after sitting in the house for a month doing but studying for the last CPA exam he was happy to go anywhere else.

The Ronin ran fine for me. It failed to go fully into battery for him several times. I am going to attribute that to the gun needing more break in and him possibly limp-wristing, because it didn’t do it to me. Plus I’m not sure whose crappy mag Springer is shipping now but I think it’s one more way they are keeping the price down with this blaster. I’ll order some more Dawson Competition mags and get on with it.

I do believe the factory mags are made by Mecgar IIRC.

I look fwd to seeing if the Dawson's eliminate the issue.

When I loaded the last round in the one factory mag it expanded the feed lips so it couldn’t even be inserted in the gun. Whosever these are, they are terrible.

I have also had oddities with the factory mags for my EMP 4 Carry. They are Mecgar mags also. I have had almost identical issues with mine, when my wife and daughter handles it. No instances for me. I have not fired it in a while because I have been enjoying another toy.

I prefer the Colts too but unfortunately their 9mm batches are too small and too far in between. The used (original) 70 series guns have gotten too expensive to turn into target guns. Watched two of them go for 1400-1600 on GunBroker last week...crazy.
And long dangly 9mm ejectors that I bend ( I bent two) and squishy thumb safeties, all on the new ones. I was a Colt guy, but they have left me.

Is it stipling? or is it...
yea, it’s grip tape.
I've already got enough ordered in parts to buy another one of these. Not sending it out to have it checkered at this price point.

Gonna file just a smidge off the right-top of the back of the trigger bow where it engages the grip safety so I don’t have to mash the grip safety ALL the way in to disengage it. It’s a match blaster after all.
