Let's say you've been a beer guy most of your life, but you're going camping this weekend and would like a bottle to enjoy with the boys.

What would you suggest that has generally good availability and is reasonably priced?

Eagles Rare is always a good goto (If you can find it)
sazarac rye
Elijah Craig but sometimes its too hot for people

Bulleit is good for the $$$
If you can find Woodford Reserve Double Oak, you will be the hit of the campfire ($55ish)
Jeferson Reserve ($65ish)
A bottle of tequila (Corazon) $30ish)
Angels Envy ($60ish)

Love Angel's too but, not so easy to come by in my area.

I find Woodford a bit harsh. That's just me.

Bulleit is a bargain for the $$.

Blade and Bow is okay for mixing. Not so good for sipping.

Doesn't break the bank, not overly aggressive on the palate:

Woodford reserve
Elijah Craig

Or, buy several airplane bottles of a bunch of different ones.

I'm not a fan of Knob Creek; ironically, I like rye, which typically is more aggressive than whiskey and bourbon, but Knob Creek is a bit too abrasive for me.

Try Benchmark, (distillery that makes Buffalo Trace, Blantons, Eagle Rare), good bourbon, easy on the pocket (about $10/bottle). Probably not as complex as other bourbons, but a good, basic bourbon.

I'll 3rd,4th,5th Bullet.

Woodford would be a close 2nd but a couple bucks more.

If pickin's are slim (most stores around here are) for the above two. Makers Mark is hard to turn down. It's more spicy than the other two.

The single barrel stuff tends to be more all over the place, you get a good one then the next one tastes totally different.

The Elijah Craig 94 proof is a pretty good bottle. Good bang for the buck, has a lot of flavor for the money.
For a few dollars more, Russels Reserve 10 year old is hard to beat, too.

Don't think I've seen anybody suggest one of my favorites....Four Roses Single Barrel....but then again, I always have Lord Calvert in the house.

All of the above are good. But my suggestion would be Evan Williams single barrel. It is an extremely good, classic profile bourbon that is easy to find and will not break the bank at $35.

Spouse and I tend to choose our favorites by pouring .5oz flights (4-6 examples) of whatever spirit we are intrigued with and is available at the time.

Line them up with a sip of water and a water cracker or other palate cleanser between.

I enjoyed a bottle of that on one of my recent camping trips.

@frakncylons

Jefferson's has been described by my non-whiskey drinking friends as smoov.

Jefferson’s ocean will turn anyone into a bourbon drinker. Isn’t that right @Johnny

Jefferson’s is a good starter whiskey. I personally didn’t care for Bullet when I bought a bottle. I love Basil Hayden’s, little more complex than Jefferson’s. But I also prefer a higher proof than most. Noah’s Mill is probably my favorite I’ve ever had.

Ever had Bulleit Barrel Strength? If you like high proof it's hard to beat. That, Booker's, or Stagg Jr.

Bulleit rye, personal reasonably priced favorite.
Bernheim wheat whiskey, not bad at all.

I just recently started to enjoy s bourbon straight. So to enjoy a variety and different tastings and proofs I have got a few different bottles and am pretty much liking all that I have tried. I do find that I am liking the higher proof ones above 100 proof.Tonight I'm enjoying this 115 proof Old Forester 1920 prohibition style.has a little bite but very tasty16365991591451660946740272735257.jpg

Four roses has been my go to for a good while now nothing wrong with their cheapest bottle

@frakncylons what did you end up woth and did yall have a good time?
The store near me didn’t seem too well stocked, but I ended up with a larger bottle of Four Roses (I suppose it was their normal blend, nothing fancy) and a smaller bottle of Maker’s Mark. The Four Roses we used for mixing but I did enjoy sipping on the MM. I do appreciate the recommendations and I may try some more of them in the next few months.

We try to go to a different park every year and this year we went to Breaks, VA on the Kentucky border. It was absolutely wonderful.

The Pakistani that owns the Exxon beside the McDonald's in my town, text me this afternoon to let me know they just opened a liquor store in the Walmart shopping center.

I didn't realize I drank that much.
