We lost power a couple of hours ago following high winds and lightning strikes. It appears to be out from Moncure to Apex - including both areas.

Fortunately I’m on generator power so no big deal.

What‘s interesting is that usually when the power goes out Duke will send out a notice with an anticipated restoral time. Thus far, all they’ve sent out is that they are still assessing the outages.

I’m thinking that this outage may last a while…

We’re roughly in the same area, but our utilities are with the town (not Duke). Closer to downtown.

Outage lasted from about 7:20 to 9:30.

Hoping everyone is faring well during the outage.

I was without when I got home from work. Was sitting in the dark fuming about all the things I needed to do, then realized I had three generators. About the time I needed to cook dinner and lit the stove with the match the power came back on. Only out for about 2 hours.

Not sure if this should be posted in the curmudgeon thread, or where, but just saying... you are getting there. Maybe earlier than you planned.

I just finished grilling dogs and burgers , the wind came up, rain poured … bam or is it boop(?) .. power out at 6:27pm
I just hooked up the gen and 3 drop cords to the refers and freezer. It’s 10:22 pm
Duke just reported restoration at 11:40 pm

It’s past my 9pm bedtime… I’m getting overtired and cranky.

Outage map shows 678 affected in Nawth Ashvile; never even flickered here today.

We have some power outages in my neighborhood, only a few streets for some reason, but thankfully not mine.

Bigger issue is trampolines flying everywhere, shingles being ripped off, and trees breaking, including the medium crepe myrtle in my front yard which snapped at the largest trunk. Guess I’ll be planting a new tree this fall 😕

I’m here in Bear Creek in a travel trailer. Making matters worse, my DC power converter failed and I had it replaced, but need to get a new battery. I’ve been holding off since my CC bill is high with furniture, pool table movers, and damned dog day care charges. Blipped several times, so I shut off the AC after the first couple, though it rode through it. Didn’t want to do that to the motor.

Thinking I am going to compare th 30a plug to that of the generator…. May have an option for as unreliable as the power is here.

Wasn’t home when we lost power at our house but the stove time was reset when I got home. Looks like our power came back on at 7:45. So it couldn’t have been off long. We were on glenwood ave next to Crabtree valley mall when their power went down. Got some friends in north Raleigh that still don’t have power restored.

Only ATT fiber internet out at the house, no data on our ATT phones. Restored about eight hours later. High wind for a couple of minutes, I'm north of RDU runways.

3:28 am and woke up from the couch with the lights on and the generator shut off.
Alarm says we had power at 2:35
Generator exhaust still hot, so it hadn’t been off for long.
Good night Johnboy…

Looked like a bomb went off in Newton. Power was out from 16 to 321 along Hwy 10. The entire town was dark. As of 5 am probably half of it was still dark. Stop lights were mostly back on. Trees down everywhere.

We had a couple of good size pine trees come down. One during the storm and one sometime after midnight

Power went out about 530 or so in Vale. I too got to exercise my genny. I told a guy at work this morning, I had it running to power my shop. He asked why I didn't have it powering the house where my wife was sitting in the dark. Priorities, I had to 'splain to him....
Power came back on around 10ish

@noway2 I'm on central electric and power went out about 645 last night. We got it back about 3am.

Didn't loose power, but had 2 large white pines fall across the neighbors road/driveway. Got them cut so they can go in and out late yesterday and I'm getting ready to get the tractor out to drag them out of the way. Trying to get some cleaned up before it's too hot.

9:15 and it's already too hot, 74° and 83% humidity, my clothes are soaked. Logs removed and 2 loads of limbs hauled so far. 1 more load to go after I cool down and get my blood pressure back up so I feel better.

Bad storm came through Myrtle last night, knocked power out for about 90 minutes or so. They (power company) were saying 12:15 estimate for getting power back, but it was about 10:30

Showed over 4k were without power in Horry Co - how were you last night partner? @BatteryOaksBilly , have a power outage as well?

I spoke too soon. We lost power from 3a-4a. Unfortunately it woke my 3yo and he was scared that his sound machine which has a faint light was off and he couldn’t see anything. Otherwise not a big deal. I’m guessing they shut everything off in order to restore the areas that were out since the evening.

Lots of trees down in our area, including two in our yard. Thankfully no damage to our house, and we didn't lose power.

My in-laws in Hickory lost power last night, still out. Many trees down and quite a bit of damage.

We had about 20 minutes of a decent storm and 30 minutes of rain.

I was grumpy. I'd just come in from powering down the generator and putting all the ext cords away. I had the generator just inside the open garage door with a fan blowing on the generator for cooling and fume management. I'd found what looked like a roof leak on the garage floor. Nope. Neighbors idiot GSD had come into the garage and relieved himself on my engine hoist. Stupid dog.

Another bad storm just rolled through, thankful that no power was lost.
Clearing up now

His hoist now....

North Lincoln County, we lost power for about 2 hours. I wasn't home. Wife said after the worst of the storm passed she went out on the front porch to look around. Said she could hear several generators running somewhere nearby.

We moved into this area about 2 years ago. It's nice to know I have neighbors who are semi self reliant, makes me think I'm in a good place.

What am I, 3 miles up the road from you? Maybe 4?

Ours went out around 6:40pm and came back on this morning about 6:25 pm.

From Reno's store to Rocky River got slammed. Trees down all over our place. None on buildings thankfully.

We could see the "rotation" around 6:50pm or so in that 10 acre field behind Michael P.'s house. It swooped down at least twice like it was trying to kiss the ground but couldn't quite make it.

And we're about 3-4 miles from you in the other direction. Aside from the few blips, all was well. I am glad, and surprised that there doesn't seem to be any damage or downed trees in this area. The storm looked like it was weakening after it got past Asheboro with most the lightning to the north and south. As far as the rotation, sounds like you had a mini tornado wanting to form. Goldston was right on the edge of the tornado warning zone, too.

You go by the library this morning and see half of that 150 year old oak down?

Made me a little sad to see that one.
