Made it back out to the range last weekend. Back-to-back weekend visits is nearly unheard of for me.

Speaking of "heard," a couple guys a few lanes down were talking about the strange bakelite mag in my RPK. One explained to the other, "they're orange because they have clay in them." Seriously. I usually have a handful of AK variants with me, and I swear these elicit more confusion than most other gun types (like the guy who tried to explain to me how my NHM-91 is "basically an SKS").

Anyway, share some of your favorite verbal blunders from fellow shooters at the range, gun store, show, etc.

I had a guy explain that his out of the box Remington 308 rifle was half of a sub-MOA...

I asked what a "half sub-moa" was (even used the finger quotes) and he went on to double down on stupid, so I literally walked away from him while he was mid sentence.

Hey, everybody knows that half sub-MOA is what the old timers called it, nowadays the cool kids use Minute of Elevation.

Get with the times you judgemental prick.

Y'all must not be shooting enough if you can hear what the neighbors are saying. :D
Went to Woody's the other day to see what was up with @Sean Galt rifle before the match. Dude next to us for a time was shooting a full auto something. Couldn't hear jack after he finished off the BELT and gave a chance to cool down. Note to self bring muffs not just plugs next time...

"the book that came with my SKS, says effective at 10,000 meters."

No it doesn't.

"I know what the book says!"

I know what a 762 by 39 will do. It's at least a misprint.

"What makes you think you are so smart?"

Hanging out at the range on a day such as this.

At least he didn't say sub minute of elevation. Lol.

You haven't noticed the camera on top of the flag pole yet, have you?
As long as it doesn't have a microphone, I'm gtg. I called Andy before I showed up.

Back this past fall, my son and I witnessed a family show up on the 200 yd. benches while we were shooting on the 100 yd. side. It was a Dad, three young kids, the oldest maybe 12, and the Mom. They pulled out an AR and walked out past the bench and shelter, past the firing line and started indiscriminately shooting the grass about 50 yards downrange.

My son and I stopped shooting and just watched for a minute. I was about to politely address the Dad about what he was doing and the danger of intentionally shooting the ground and not a target in front of the berm.

Before I could do so, another member addressed this guy and told him that there was a town not far on the other side of the berm and the way he was shooting could cause a round to go over the berm. The guy responded, "We're not shooting over the berm!"

At that point, my son and I packed up and left.

Heard so many I wouldn't know where to start. But one of my favorites:

Two guy walk into a range owned by a local well known pro. As we are waiting for a line the Owner/pro guy walks in door and says "scuse me fellas"with a smile and goes up behind counter.

First guy "F*&cking douchebag" (under his breath)
Other guy "Really? Who's that?"
First guy "That's So and So, he's a total a-hole"
Other guy "Really? You know him?"
First guy "No, but my buddy met him once".

Lolz.

That the 1911 is the best hand gun ever built

Glocks never fail

And last but not least 50bmg will kill you even if it misses you by a foot

At Flintlock....

Was shooting my AR. Only other fellow out there was shooting a bolt gun. Stopped so we could go check/hang targets.

Got back to the bench, sat down and was looking over load data and comparing targets. Fellow walks over and strikes up a conversation. Right off the bat, he gave his opinion of ARs, asked, "Why do you need a rifle like that?" and proceeded to tell me, "I don't particularly like those rifles"

I leaned in toward my rifle, put my left ear to it as though it was speaking to me, looked up and said, "She said she doesn't particularly like you, either."

He packed up and left.

That's freakin hilarious.

It's stories like this one that restore my faith in humanity. Well done!

Bravo!

It'll do a fist size group at 1000 yards

Yep got it at Walmart

"Look @#$#&/3! Are you saying my Savage Axis WONT shoot a f#@$!#& fist sized group at 1000yds?! You know Savage guns have won at camp Perry right?! You do know that Savage is chosen by top shooters everywhere right?!!
You are just f#@$!#& jealous that my gun cost $250 bucks and shoots as good as your custom rifle!!"

Oh my God have I heard some $#@+. How much time you got fellas.

Thanks!

I'm generally an easy-going guy and try to be cordial with everybody I meet. I've had other folks at the range approach me before, whose experience with ARs was limited to what they had read/heard in the news. They were just curious. After talking to them a bit and showing them how the rifle operates, I offered to let them get on the trigger. Every one of them seemed to enjoy shooting the rifle and I know for a fact a couple of them now own and regularly shoot AR platform rifles.

If that dude had approached me as those folks did, instead of rolling up with a case of the ass, I'd have made him the same offer...but after his lecture, I thought to myself, "I'll be damned if I let you put your paws on my rig."

Most of the folks at the club seem pretty reasonable. But I'd like to speak with the guy that shot the target holder on the 7 yard pistol berm. It's 7 yards away and 6" off the ground! WTH!?

Revolvers are more reliable because they don't have any internal parts.

If you need more than 6 shots, you should have called the police.

(Yep, both by the same guy.)

Guy I kinda know invited me to go shooting. I brought an AR, Glock 30, and Glock 17. He brought some big bore revolvers and a 45-70. He insisted I shoot his guns and I gladly took him up on the offer. He was excited to shoot my AR and G30 but when I offered the G17 he shook his head and said "anything smaller than a .45 isn't worth shooting."

Next time he says that, offer to shoot him with a 9mm and 45acp so he can tell you which hurts worse.

He clearly has never experienced a suppressed .22lr. Ridiculously fun.

I was at Trigger Time. I am sure many of you have been there and know the clientele they bring. I was waiting for a couple buddies. There were a couple guys shooting already. My buddies showed up, took out their ARs, and we started shooting (I will mention they are stationed at Bragg and know a thing or two). One of the other guys comes over and starts telling them how they are shooting is wrong. My friends are polite, thank him, and said they are OK. The other guy, the one who came over, got mad. Said he had been in the National Guard, and they should take his advice. At that point one of my buddies tells him they are in a unit at Bragg that does a lot of high-volume precision shooting and will be fine. The guy that cam over shrugged, said "amateurs," and walked off.

I am constantly reminded of that old and sage phrase, "better to be quiet and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Hah! That video was great. JJFU for the win

I was up by the benches while @JustKeepSwimming was down range checking his target. A guy a couple lanes over was fiddling with his .30-06's scope so I asked him to stop touching the rifle while we had people downrange. He said "It's not loaded".... I glared at him and turned back around. I guess he wanted to prove the point, because he must've reached down and pulled the trigger..."BOOOOOM!" Fortunately downrange was clear by then because he let one fly standing next to the rifle. I whipped around and said something to him...can't even remember now. Him and his buddy packed up and left.

On the rifle range at RCWA one morning last year, I'm the only one there!! A truck pulls up and 2 guys get out and begin setting up right next to me on the next bench (6' away) I'm running my Chrono on some 308 loads at 100 yards getting the Chrono info and shooting for group at the same time. I touch off a round and one of the guys jumps like it hit him. He turns to me and says" GD man let us know before you shoot so we can put on our ear protection" I explained that unless the range is cold with the lights flashing then it's considered hot and I'll shoot when the urge hits me.
He gets all bowed up and begins to explain the rules to me!! I stopped him and asked where the rule was that I was to inform him that I'm about to shoot?? Blank stare......... then they moved their crap about 6 or 8 benches away..... I went back to my work....
