We do a good bit of day hiking but not the type to start a thread for. So let’s start a general one like the fishing pics thread. So throw in your pics from those hikes.

Bakers Mountain today. 2.4 miles

Bakers Mountain is a little gem. We have hiked there a lot. The trails are steep enough for serious training, in some stretches. Great for when you don’t have time to drive farther out.

Baker mountain is quite the hidden gem. We've been going up there off and on for the last 12 years. I recall the first time we went I had to carry our son up that STEEP section on my shoulders.

Our most recent hike was up to McRae's peak on Grandfather Mtn. Only a couple people from our group wanted to go up there as it's was pretty steep and they didn't want to climb the infamous "ladders & cables". Great view from the top, but not for the faint of heart

We did 5 miles or so at the Great Smoky Mountain Park on the “Road to nowhere” it was fun. We ended up at Fontana Lake and then hiked back up. It was a really fun time aside from me turning my foot and breaking it early on. I kept on walking hence why I don’t have many photos of the trip.that whole story and thr broken promise by the Feds is really sad.

Gold mine loop? I spent a very cold December night in that campsite. Everything froze. I had to thaw out my wife’s feet on my stomach. Good times.

Indeed it was the Gold Mine Loop. It was a wonderful adventure albeit a bit humid and hot. I want to go back and hike the north trail around the old homestead ruins and such.

That whole North slope of Fontana is oddly hot and dry. It's the hottest place in the Smokies IMO. The trees and plant life are even different. We hiked out to Forney creek a couple years back and hiked most of the way into Eagle Creek this year. Both ends are the same, hot, dry, less ground cover, more pines.

I agree!!! It’s really odd

Not too recent. From my three month engineering trip to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

These are from the 9.5 mile round trip hike up the back ridge to Stairway to Heaven, to an old Loran station.

I'm the gray haired old man, the other is a coworker.

What do you mean coming in my yard taking pictures and drinking beer and not stopping by to say howdy?
I like Curahee's beer better than Lazy H a good friend and classmate is part owner of Lazy H.
Here is a link to Curahee, no affiliation to them, just good beer and close to my house.

Rufus Morgan Falls is named after a relative of mine.

I see a road trip on the horizon.

I was at Curahee the next day. We were in town inspecting bridges two weeks ago. I finished up early one day and went for a hike.

Back to Grandfather Mtn State Park for a day hike. 5.5 mile loop. Got some great views before the rain moved in. Last 2 miles was really wet.

I am going to try to particulate in this thread, but I try really hard not to touch a phone when I am enjoying the outdoors. Seems like bad juju even though I like the pics. I’m torn.

Went to Ellijay, Ga for a late anniversary trip. I fished while the wife hammocked and read. Found a nice trail and took a 10 mile hike. If you ever get a chance, go to the Georgia mountains. Ellijay and Blue Ridge are nice little towns.

That looks like a perfect spot to live.

Oahu, at the end of the Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail overlooking Kailua, Lanikai Beach, and Waimanalo on the South-Eastern side of the island with my oldest daughter (top).

Waimea Falls at the end of the botanical gardens near Waimea Bay on the Northern end of Oahu...again, with my oldest daughter (bottom).

This was November last year.
