Rattle can paint ?

I dont remeber if I've seen this mentioned before in this thread or not.
One color I add to the mix of camo in a can pack is Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. It's ultra flat and is very close to matching dried pine needles. You have to experiment a little if you want to fine tune it. It can change a bit depending on the base color and how thick you lay the primer on.

EDIT: Wait, isn’t the topic of this thread rattle-canned guns? Let’s get back to that.

Here are some of mine that I’m 100% confident dropped the resale value of the gun. And I’m 100% confident they don’t meet @Kalashnicarolina ’s need for “combat ready” paint.

You’ll notice that some of the pics are the same gun, with different paint jobs

Agreed. Especially when it is ‘plastic army-guy’ green. ;)

That's what provided the reddish-brown here:

White works well in some scenarios. Army green is literally a rustoleum color lol.

I have not painted one before but I'm thinking I might take the plunge after seeing these pics. Kind of like grinding on a Glock, who cares, if it's mine. It's not a collectable piece so I do not care about resale value. I am old enough to be Fudd too.

Not sure if you seen this but here is my slr 106fr. Highly collectable. Who cares if it's mine is right. I don't feel like I've lost 1 cent of resale value. I'm not looking to sell but to me it's more valuable now than before. Paint wears off with use or comes off with many different products and patience. I do recommend painting less valuable items first. Lots of fun. Tape up spots you don't want painted like the trigger, optic glass or the Keymount on your muzzle for example. You can not **** this up. It comes off. I've made stencils from computer paper with a razor blade. Lots can be done.

Rapco paint is the best paint I’ve used. It won’t wear/chip as quick as rustoleum or other brands. If you’re gonna do it, do it right!

I like top two the best, but the mag from the third one does get extra points. My AR rifles are run of the mill PSA, a Delton and some off brand I traded for long ago R-Guns or something like that. So, nothing lost on any of them.

I been down the looking at paint rabbithole. Is the Rapco paint any harder to remove if you don't like it or is it just a paint over it type of deal? Once I paint it, I don't see any real reason to strip the paint if wanted to change it up. Also run across a brand called Gillespie/GCI which seemed to cost more. Rapco is top dog though right?

Bottom pic wasn't finished. Just had to drop a FJB. Both the 2nd and 3rd pic guns are back to factory finish. Still have painted mags thou. Get as much oil off the exterior of the gun as you can and then go to town.

I recommend rustoleum because it is kind of easy to remove. Never heard of Rapco but since I have slightly refined my painting skills I may look for a better option. Paint coming off also looks good so idk. I'm sticking with rustoleum for now.

It’s not any harder to remove than other paint. It just won’t wear as easily.

Rapco does seem to be the favorite for the crazy rattlecan heads on Reddit. It has lasted much longer than rustoleum and krylon for me. And they make the best colors.

I'd like to see a rapco job if you haven't posted one already

My rifle I posted on the last page of this thread was done in Rapco field drab.

It has worn some, but nowhere near as quick as other paints have for me.

Geez…now I’m thinking about repainting all of my rigs…lol.
I’ll just bring you some of mine that need painting so you don’t have to worry about having to clean all that paint off yours 😁

Got carried away, decided to paint the grip on my ar today, ended up painting the eotech a little, along with the streamlight and AFG, and part of the buffer tube. 🤷

And yet you don't post any pictures.

Tried to put some sort of pattern on the grip, didn't turn out the best. But now I'm torn. Part of me wants to paint the lower, but the upper is already duracoated in a camo pattern, so either the lower stays black, with duracoated camo upper or I rattle can the lower and regardless it won't match, or just spray the whole gun over

Looks great! Are the squiggles a decal kit or did you just cut out some templates?
The black is a stencil kit from Ebay. The brown was done with a scrapbooking stencil sheet I had laying around that I think was from Hobby Lobby.

Simple thing for me, you paint it I won't buy it. :D The problem with custom paint jobs is any buyer has to like what you ended up with which narrows the base of potential buyers. Not a problem for guns that you intend to keep but just unwise for ones you may consider selling later.
