Considering having my 521-T (from when I was a kid) drilled/tapped to put modern glass on it. I believe is was manufactured in 1949. I'm looking for advice on the *best* gunsmith (based on familiarity with vintage target rifles) to to drill and tap it for an EGW base made for the gun. I'm in Hickory and am willing to drive anywhere between Charlotte, Spartanburg, Asheville and Boone to have the right person work on it. I'm not looking for a smith that "can" do it - I'm looking for the best choice to have it done right since there are no do-overs.
Am a little conflicted about D/Ting it - but it is (and only has been) a shooter and has been used way more than enough that it is no collectors piece, but I also don't want someone messing up a rifle older than me, that my grand-kids might be using to be teach their kids to shoot with one day - and that future generation wondering who bubba'd it up.
Thanks!
